Antes David les había dicho a sus soldados: «¡El primero que mate a un jebuseo será la cabeza y jefe!». Joab hijo de Sarvia fue el primero, por lo cual David lo nombró jefe.

Y David había dicho: El que primero hiriere al Jebuseo, será cabeza y jefe. Entonces Joab hijo de Sarvia subió el primero, y fué hecho jefe.

And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

David had said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.
