Había dicho antes: El que fuere el primero en vencer a los jebuseos, será hecho príncipe y general del ejército. Acometió, pues, el primero Joab, hijo de Sarvia, y quedó constituido príncipe.

Y David había dicho: El que primero hiriere al Jebuseo, será cabeza y jefe. Entonces Joab hijo de Sarvia subió el primero, y fué hecho jefe.

And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

David had said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.
