Cuando los filisteos oyeron la noticia de que David era el nuevo rey de Israel, movilizaron sus tropas para capturarlo. Pero cuando David supo que venían en camino, salió contra ellos.

Por consiguiente, los atacó en Baal Perasín y los derrotó. Entonces David, lleno de gozo, exclamó: «¡Dios me ha usado para arrasar a mis enemigos, como una fuerte corriente de agua arrastra todo a su paso!». Por este motivo el lugar es conocido como Baal Perasín.
Subieron pues á Baal-perasim, y allí los hirió David. Dijo luego David: Dios rompió mis enemigos por mi mano, como se rompen las aguas. Por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel lugar Baal-perasim.

Cuando escuches un sonido como de pasos de alguien que camina sobre las copas de los árboles, los atacarás, pues esa es la señal de que yo, el Señor, voy delante de ti, para destruir a tu enemigo.
Y así que oyeres venir un estruendo por las copas de los morales, sal luego á la batalla: porque Dios saldrá delante de ti, y herirá el campo de los Filisteos.

David lo hizo, como el Señor le mandó, y aniquiló al ejército de los filisteos por todo el camino desde Gabaón hasta Guézer.
