DESPUÉS de estas cosas aconteció que murió Naas rey de los hijos de Ammón, y reinó en su lugar su hijo.

Y dijo David: Mostraré mi compasión o sentimiento a Hanón, hijo de Naas, pues recibí favores de su padre. En consecuencia envió David embajadores para consolarle en la muerte de su padre. Luego que éstos llegaron al país de los amonitas con el fin de consolar a Hanón,
Y dijo David: Haré misericordia con Hanán hijo de Naas, porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Mas venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los hijos de Ammón á Hanán, para consolarle,
And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.
dijeron a Hanón los príncipes de los amonitas: Tú quizás piensas que David por honrar la memoria de tu padre ha enviado a consolarte; y no echas de ver que estos criados suyos han venido a explorar, y examinar y escudriñar el estado de tu país.
Los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón dijeron á Hanán: ¿A tu parecer honra David á tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿no vienen antes sus siervos á ti para escudriñar, é inquirir, y reconocer la tierra?
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

Oído esto, hizo Hanón raer la cabeza y la barba de los enviados de David, y que les cortasen las túnicas desde medio cuerpo abajo, y así los despachó.
Entonces Hanán tomó los siervos de David, y rapólos, y cortóles los vestidos por medio, hasta las nalgas, y despachólos.

Los cuales habiéndose retirado y dado parte a David del suceso, envió éste quién le saliese al encuentro (atenta la gran afrenta que había recibido), y les ordenó que se detuviesen en Jericó , y no volviesen hasta que les hubiese crecido la barba.

Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

Pero considerando los amonitas, así Hanón como todo el pueblo, la injuria que habían hecho a David, enviaron mil talentos de plata para tomar a sueldo tropas de las que iban en carros de guerra, y gente de a caballo de la Mesopotamia, y de la Siria de Maaca, y de Soba.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.

Marchó, pues, Joab y la gente que con él estaba al combate contra los siros, y los puso en huida.
Acercóse luego Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los Siros; mas ellos huyeron delante de él.

But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

Entonces los vasallos de Adarecer, viéndose vencidos por Israel, se pasaron a David, y se sujetaron a su imperio. Con esto la Siria nunca más quiso dar socorro a los amonitas.
Y viendo los Siros de Adarezer que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos; y nunca más quiso el Siro ayudar á los hijos de Ammón.
And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
