Mais Joab répondit : Que l’Eternel veuille augmenter son peuple cent fois autant qu’il est, ô Roi mon Seigneur ! tous ne sont-ils pas serviteurs de mon Seigneur ? Pourquoi mon Seigneur cherche-t-il cela ? et pourquoi cela serait- il imputé comme un crime à Israël ?
Y dijo Joab: Añada Jehová á su pueblo cien veces otros tantos. Rey señor mío, ¿no son todos estos siervos de mi señor? ¿para qué procura mi señor esto, que será pernicioso á Israel?
And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
Joab said, “May the LORD make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren’t they all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”
Mais la parole du Roi l’emporta sur Joab ; et Joab partit, et alla par tout Israël ; puis il revint à Jérusalem.

And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

Et Gad vint à David, et lui dit : Ainsi a dit l’Eternel :
Y viniendo Gad á David, díjole: Así ha dicho Jehová:
So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee

Choisis ou la famine durant l’espace de trois ans ; ou d’être consumé, durant trois mois, étant poursuivi de tes ennemis, en sorte que l’épée de tes ennemis t’atteigne ; ou que l’épée de l’Eternel, c’est-à-dire, la mortalité, soit durant trois jours sur le pays, et que l’Ange de l’Eternel fasse le dégât dans toutes les contrées d’Israël. Maintenant donc regarde ce que j’aurai à répondre à celui qui m’a envoyé.
Escógete, ó tres años de hambre; ó ser por tres meses deshecho delante de tus enemigos, y que la espada de tus adversarios te alcance; ó por tres días la espada de Jehová y pestilencia en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová destruya en todo el término de Israel: mira pues qué he de responder al que me ha enviado.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

Alors David répondit à Gad : Je suis dans une très-grande angoisse ; que je tombe, je te prie, entre les mains de l’Eternel, parce que ses compassions sont en très grand nombre ; mais que je ne tombe point entre les mains des hommes.!
Entonces David dijo á Gad: Estoy en grande angustia: ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová; porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo, y que no caiga yo en manos de hombres.
And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into the LORD’s hand, for his mercies are very great. Don’t let me fall into man’s hand.”
L’Eternel envoya donc la mortalité sur Israël ; et il tomba soixante et dix mille hommes d’Israël.

And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Or David élevant ses yeux vit l’Ange de l’Eternel qui était entre la terre et le ciel, ayant dans sa main son épée nue, tournée contre Jérusalem. Et David et les Anciens couverts de sacs, tombèrent sur leurs faces.

And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

Et David dit à Dieu : N’est-ce pas moi qui ai commandé qu’on fit le dénombrement du peuple ? c’est donc moi qui ai péché et qui ai très-mal agi ; mais ces brebis qu’ont-elles fait ? Eternel mon Dieu ! je te prie que ta main soit contre moi, et contre la maison de mon père, mais qu’elle ne soit pas contre ton peuple, pour le détruire.
Y alzando David sus ojos, vió al ángel de Jehová, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, teniendo un espada desnuda en su mano, extendida contra Jerusalem. Entonces David y los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros, cubiertos de sacos.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O LORD my God, be against me and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”
Alors l’Ange de l’Eternel commanda à Gad de dire à David, qu’il montât pour dresser un autel à l’Eternel, dans l’aire d’Ornan Jébusien.
Y dijo David á Dios: ¿No soy yo el que hizo contar el pueblo? Yo mismo soy el que pequé, y ciertamente he hecho mal; mas estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Jehová Dios mío, sea ahora tu mano contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre, y no haya plaga en tu pueblo.
Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then the LORD’s angel commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up and raise an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
David donc monta selon la parole que Gad lui avait dite au nom de l’Eternel.

Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Sell me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
Et Ornan dit à David : Prends-la, et que le Roi mon Seigneur fasse tout ce qui lui semblera bon. Voici, je donne ces boeufs pour les holocaustes, et ces instruments à fouler du blé, au lieu de bois, et ce blé pour le gâteau ; je donne toutes ces choses.
Entonces dijo David á Ornán: Dame este lugar de la era, en que edifique un altar á Jehová, y dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la plaga del pueblo.
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.”
Mais le Roi David lui répondit : Non ; mais certainement j’achèterai tout cela au prix qu’il vaut ; car je ne présenterai point à l’Eternel ce qui est à toi, et je n’offrirai point un holocauste d’une chose que j’aie eue pour rien.
Y Ornán respondió á David: Tómalo para ti, y haga mi señor el rey lo que bien le pareciere: y aun los bueyes daré para el holocausto, y los trillos para leña, y trigo para el presente: yo lo doy todo.
And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for the LORD, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
David donna donc à Ornan pour cette place, six cents sicles d’or de poids.
Entonces el rey David dijo á Ornán: No, sino que efectivamente la compraré por su justo precio: porque no tomaré para Jehová lo que es tuyo, ni sacrificaré holocausto que nada me cueste.

Alors l’Eternel commanda à l’Ange ; et l’Ange remit son épée dans son fourreau.
