1Und Satan stand auf wider Israel und reizte David an, Israel zu zählen.
2Da sprach David zu Joab und zu den Obersten des Volkes: Gehet hin, zählet Israel von Beerseba bis Dan; und berichtet mir, damit ich ihre Zahl wisse.
3Und Joab sprach: Es möge Jehova zu seinem Volke, so viele ihrer sind, hundertmal hinzufügen! Sind sie nicht alle, mein Herr König, die Knechte meines Herrn? Warum begehrt mein Herr solches? Warum soll es Israel zur Schuld werden?
4Aber das Wort des Königs blieb fest gegen Joab. Und Joab zog aus und durchwanderte ganz Israel, und er kam nach Jerusalem zurück.
5Und Joab gab die Zahl des gemusterten Volkes David an; und es waren in ganz Israel elfhunderttausend Mann, die das Schwert zogen, und in Juda vierhundertsiebzigtausend Mann, die das Schwert zogen.
6Levi aber und Benjamin musterte er nicht unter ihnen; denn das Wort des Königs war Joab ein Greuel.
7Und diese Sache war übel in den Augen Gottes, und er schlug Israel.
8Und David sprach zu Gott: Ich habe sehr gesündigt, daß ich diese Sache getan habe; und nun laß doch die Ungerechtigkeit deines Knechtes vorübergehen, denn ich habe sehr töricht gehandelt!
9Und Jehova redete zu Gad, dem Seher Davids, und sprach:
10Gehe hin und rede zu David und sprich: So spricht Jehova: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor; wähle dir eines davon, daß ich es dir tue.
11Und Gad kam zu David und sprach zu ihm:
12So spricht Jehova: Wähle dir! Entweder drei Jahre Hungersnot; oder drei Monate dahingerafft zu werden vor deinen Bedrängern, und daß das Schwert deiner Feinde dich treffe; oder drei Tage das Schwert Jehovas und Pest im Lande, und daß der Engel Jehovas verderbe in allen Grenzen Israels. Und nun siehe zu, was für eine Antwort ich dem zurückbringen soll, der mich gesandt hat.
13Und David sprach zu Gad: Mir ist sehr angst! Möge ich doch in die Hand Jehovas fallen, denn seine Erbarmungen sind sehr groß; aber in die Hand der Menschen laß mich nicht fallen!
14Und Jehova sandte eine Pest unter Israel; und es fielen von Israel siebzigtausend Mann.
15Und Jehova sandte den Engel nach Jerusalem, um es zu verderben. Und als er verderbte, sah es Jehova, und es reute ihn des Übels; und er sprach zu dem Engel, welcher verderbte: Genug! Ziehe jetzt deine Hand ab. Der Engel Jehovas stand aber bei der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters.
16Und als David seine Augen erhob, sah er den Engel Jehovas zwischen der Erde und dem Himmel stehen, sein Schwert gezückt in seiner Hand, ausgestreckt über Jerusalem. Da fielen David und die Ältesten, in Sacktuch gehüllt, auf ihr Angesicht.
17Und David sprach zu Gott: Bin ich es nicht, der gesagt hat, das Volk zu zählen? Und ich bin es, der gesündigt und sehr übel gehandelt hat; aber diese Schafe, was haben sie getan? Jehova, mein Gott, es sei doch deine Hand wider mich und wider das Haus meines Vaters, aber nicht wider dein Volk zur Plage!
18Und der Engel Jehovas sprach zu Gad, daß er zu David sage, David solle hinaufgehen, um Jehova einen Altar zu errichten auf der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters.
19Und David ging hinauf, nach dem Worte Gads, das er im Namen Jehovas geredet hatte.
20Und Ornan wandte sich um und sah den Engel; und seine vier Söhne versteckten sich mit ihm. Ornan aber drosch Weizen.
21Und David kam zu Ornan; und Ornan blickte hin und sah David, und er ging aus der Tenne hinaus und beugte sich vor David nieder, mit dem Antlitz zur Erde.
22Und David sprach zu Ornan: Gib mir den Platz der Tenne, daß ich Jehova einen Altar darauf baue, um volles Geld gib ihn mir, daß die Plage von dem Volke abgewehrt werde.
23Da sprach Ornan zu David: Nimm ihn dir, und mein Herr, der König, tue, was gut ist in seinen Augen; siehe, ich gebe die Rinder zu den Brandopfern, und die Dreschwagen zum Holz, und den Weizen zum Speisopfer: alles das gebe ich.
24Aber der König David sprach zu Ornan: Nein, sondern kaufen will ich es um volles Geld; denn ich will nicht, was dir gehört, für Jehova nehmen und umsonst Brandopfer opfern.
25Und David gab Ornan für den Platz sechshundert Sekel Gold an Gewicht.
26Und David baute daselbst Jehova einen Altar und opferte Brandopfer und Friedensopfer; und er rief zu Jehova, und er antwortete ihm mit Feuer vom Himmel auf dem Altar des Brandopfers.
27Und Jehova sprach zu dem Engel, und er steckte sein Schwert wieder in seine Scheide.
28Zu jener Zeit, als David sah, daß Jehova ihm auf der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters, geantwortet hatte, opferte er daselbst.
29Die Wohnung Jehovas aber, die Mose in der Wüste gemacht hatte, und der Brandopferaltar waren zu jener Zeit auf der Höhe zu Gibeon.
30Aber David vermochte nicht vor denselben hinzugehen, um Gott zu suchen; denn er war erschrocken vor dem Schwerte des Engels Jehovas.

2Y dijo David á Joab y á los príncipes del pueblo: Id, contad á Israel desde Beer-seba hasta Dan, y traedme el número de ellos para que yo lo sepa.
3Y dijo Joab: Añada Jehová á su pueblo cien veces otros tantos. Rey señor mío, ¿no son todos estos siervos de mi señor? ¿para qué procura mi señor esto, que será pernicioso á Israel?
4Mas el mandamiento del rey pudo más que Joab. Salió por tanto Joab, y fué por todo Israel; y volvió á Jerusalem, y dió la cuenta del número del pueblo á David.
5Y hallóse en todo Israel que sacaban espada, once veces cien mil; y de Judá cuatrocientos y setenta mil hombres que sacaban espada.
6Entre estos no fueron contados los Levitas, ni los hijos de Benjamín, porque Joab abominaba el mandamiento del rey.
7Asimismo desagradó este negocio á los ojos de Dios, é hirió á Israel.
8Y dijo David á Dios: He pecado gravemente en hacer esto: ruégote que hagas pasar la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque yo he hecho muy locamente.
9Y habló Jehová á Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:
10Ve, y habla á David, y dile: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; escoge de ellas una que yo haga contigo.
11Y viniendo Gad á David, díjole: Así ha dicho Jehová:
12Escógete, ó tres años de hambre; ó ser por tres meses deshecho delante de tus enemigos, y que la espada de tus adversarios te alcance; ó por tres días la espada de Jehová y pestilencia en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová destruya en todo el término de Israel: mira pues qué he de responder al que me ha enviado.
13Entonces David dijo á Gad: Estoy en grande angustia: ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová; porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo, y que no caiga yo en manos de hombres.
14Así Jehová dió pestilencia en Israel, y cayeron de Israel setenta mil hombres.
15Y envió Jehová el ángel á Jerusalem para destruirla: pero estando él destruyendo, miró Jehová, y arrepintióse de aquel mal,
16Y dijo al ángel que destruía: Basta ya; detén tu mano. Y el ángel de Jehová estaba junto á la era de Ornán Jebuseo.
17Y alzando David sus ojos, vió al ángel de Jehová, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, teniendo un espada desnuda en su mano, extendida contra Jerusalem. Entonces David y los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros, cubiertos de sacos.
18Y dijo David á Dios: ¿No soy yo el que hizo contar el pueblo? Yo mismo soy el que pequé, y ciertamente he hecho mal; mas estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Jehová Dios mío, sea ahora tu mano contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre, y no haya plaga en tu pueblo.
19Y el ángel de Jehová ordenó á Gad que dijese á David, que subiese y construyese un altar á Jehová en la era de Ornán Jebuseo.
20Entonces David subió, conforme á la palabra de Gad que le había dicho en nombre de Jehová.
21Y volviéndose Ornán vió al ángel; por lo que se escondieron cuatro hijos suyos que con él estaban. Y Ornán trillaba el trigo.
22Y viniendo David á Ornán, miró éste, y vió á David: y saliendo de la era, postróse en tierra á David.
23Entonces dijo David á Ornán: Dame este lugar de la era, en que edifique un altar á Jehová, y dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la plaga del pueblo.
24Y Ornán respondió á David: Tómalo para ti, y haga mi señor el rey lo que bien le pareciere: y aun los bueyes daré para el holocausto, y los trillos para leña, y trigo para el presente: yo lo doy todo.
25Entonces el rey David dijo á Ornán: No, sino que efectivamente la compraré por su justo precio: porque no tomaré para Jehová lo que es tuyo, ni sacrificaré holocausto que nada me cueste.
26Y dió David á Ornán por el lugar seiscientos siclos de oro por peso.
27Y edificó allí David un altar á Jehová, en el que ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios pacíficos, é invocó á Jehová, el cual le respondió por fuego de los cielos en el altar del holocausto.
28Y como Jehová habló al ángel, él volvió su espada á la vaina.
29Entonces viendo David que Jehová le había oído en la era de Ornán Jebuseo, sacrificó allí.
30Y el tabernáculo de Jehová que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar del holocausto, estaban entonces en el alto de Gabaón: Mas David no pudo ir allá á consultar á Dios, porque estaba espantado á causa de la espada del ángel de Jehová.

1And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
2And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
3And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
6But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.
8And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9And the LORD spake unto Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
11So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee
12Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
13And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
14So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
18Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.
20And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
24And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
25So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
26And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
27And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
28At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.
30But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.

1Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.
2David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, count Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know how many there are.”
3Joab said, “May the LORD make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren’t they all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”
4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed and went throughout all Israel, then came to Jerusalem.
5Joab gave the sum of the census of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew a sword; and in Judah were four hundred seventy thousand men who drew a sword.
6But he didn’t count Levi and Benjamin among them, for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel.
8David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”
9The LORD spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10“Go and speak to David, saying, ‘The LORD says, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”
11So Gad came to David and said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Take your choice:
12either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even pestilence in the land, and the LORD’s angel destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’”
13David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into the LORD’s hand, for his mercies are very great. Don’t let me fall into man’s hand.”
14So the LORD sent a pestilence on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.
15God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, the LORD saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” the LORD’s angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16David lifted up his eyes, and saw the LORD’s angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
17David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O LORD my God, be against me and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”
18Then the LORD’s angel commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up and raise an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the LORD’s name.
20Ornan turned back and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22Then David said to Ornan, “Sell me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
23Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.”
24King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for the LORD, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
25So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
26David built an altar to the LORD there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the LORD; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
27Then the LORD commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.
28At that time, when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29For the LORD’s tabernacle, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30But David couldn’t go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the LORD’s angel.
