And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

Levi aber und Benjamin zählete er nicht unter diese; denn es war dem Joab des Königs Wort ein Greuel.

So siehe nun zu, was ich antworten soll dem, der mich gesandt hat.
Ve, y habla á David, y dile: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; escoge de ellas una que yo haga contigo.

David sprach zu Gad: Mir ist fast angst; doch ich will in die Hand des HERRN fallen, denn seine Barmherzigkeit ist sehr groß, und will nicht in Menschenhände fallen.

Da ließ der HERR Pestilenz in Israel kommen, daß siebenzigtausend Mann fielen aus Israel.
Escógete, ó tres años de hambre; ó ser por tres meses deshecho delante de tus enemigos, y que la espada de tus adversarios te alcance; ó por tres días la espada de Jehová y pestilencia en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová destruya en todo el término de Israel: mira pues qué he de responder al que me ha enviado.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

Und Gott sandte den Engel gen Jerusalem, sie zu verderben. Und im Verderben sah der HERR drein, und reuete ihn das Übel und sprach zum Engel, dem Verderber: Es ist genug, laß deine Hand ab! Der Engel aber des HERRN stund bei der Tenne Arnans, des Jebusiters.
Entonces David dijo á Gad: Estoy en grande angustia: ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová; porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo, y que no caiga yo en manos de hombres.

David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O LORD my God, be against me and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”
Arnan aber, da er sich wandte und sah den Engel, und seine vier Söhne mit ihm, versteckten sie sich; denn Arnan drosch Weizen.

Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Als nun David zu Arnan ging, sah Arnan und ward Davids gewahr; und ging heraus aus der Tenne und betete David an mit seinem Antlitz zur Erde.

Entonces dijo David á Ornán: Dame este lugar de la era, en que edifique un altar á Jehová, y dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la plaga del pueblo.
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.

Und David bauete daselbst dem HERRN einen Altar und opferte Brandopfer und Dankopfer. Und da er den HERRN anrief, erhörete er ihn durchs Feuer vom Himmel auf dem Altar des Brandopfers.

And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
