SIENDO pues David ya viejo y harto de días, hizo á Salomón su hijo rey sobre Israel.

De acuerdo con las últimas instrucciones de David, se hizo el censo de los levitas de veinte años en adelante.
Así que, conforme á las postreras palabras de David, fué la cuenta de los hijos de Leví de veinte años arriba.

El deber de ellos era ayudar a los descendientes de Aarón en el servicio del templo de Yahvé. Estaban a cargo de los patios, de los cuartos, de la purificación de todos los objetos sagrados y de cualquier otro trabajo del templo de Dios.
Y estaban bajo la mano de los hijos de Aarón, para ministrar en la casa de Jehová, en los atrios y en las cámaras, y en la purificación de toda cosa santificada, y en la demás obra del ministerio de la casa de Dios;
Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

También se encargaban de los panes consagrados, de la harina fina para la ofrenda, de las galletas sin levadura, de lo que se preparaba en el sartén y de la masa mezclada. También debían controlar todas las medidas de capacidad y longitud.
Asimismo para los panes de la proposición, y para la flor de la harina para el sacrificio, y para las hojuelas sin levadura, y para la fruta de sartén, y para lo tostado, y para toda medida y cuenta;
Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

Tenían que presentarse todas las mañanas para dar gracias y alabar a Yahvé, y debían hacer lo mismo por la tarde.
Y para que asistiesen cada mañana todos los días á confesar y alabar á Jehová, y asimismo á la tarde;

También debían ofrecerle todos los sacrificios quemados a Yahvé en los días de descanso, en las lunas nuevas y en las fiestas establecidas. Debían hacerlo siempre delante de Yahvé, siguiendo las reglas establecidas para ello.
Y para ofrecer todos los holocaustos á Jehová los sábados, nuevas lunas, y solemnidades, por la cuenta y forma que tenían, continuamente delante de Jehová.
And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:

Por último, tenían a su cargo el cuidado de la Tienda de Reunión, el cuidado del santuario y la responsabilidad de ayudar a sus hermanos, los descendientes de Aarón, en todo el servicio del templo de Yahvé.
Y para que tuviesen la guarda del tabernáculo del testimonio, y la guarda del santuario, y las órdenes de los hijos de Aarón sus hermanos, en el ministerio de la casa de Jehová.
And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers for the service of the LORD’s house.
