O trabalho dos levitas era ajudar os sacerdotes, descendentes de Arão, no serviço feito no templo do Senhor. Eles também eram responsáveis para guardar os objetos sagrados e ajudar nos atos de purificação e qualquer outro serviço da casa de Deus.

Ajudavam nos sacrifícios especiais de ofertas queimadas, nos sacrifícios feitos no sábado, nas festas de lua nova e em todas as outras festas. Sempre havia levitas presentes conforme o número prescrito para eles.
Y para ofrecer todos los holocaustos á Jehová los sábados, nuevas lunas, y solemnidades, por la cuenta y forma que tenían, continuamente delante de Jehová.

Eles cuidavam do Tabernáculo, do santuário e de ajudar os seus parentes, os descendentes de Arão, no serviço do templo do Senhor; eles ajudavam os sacerdotes em tudo que estes precisavam.
