1El primer hijo de Israel fue Rubén, pero desde que deshonró a su padre por haber dormido con una de sus esposas, perdió su derecho de primogenitura, el cual se le otorgó a su medio hermano José. De consiguiente, la genealogía oficial no menciona a Rubén como primogénito.

1Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.
