No caso dos filhos de Rúben, o primogênito de Israel — embora Rúben fosse o primogênito de Israel, seus direitos de primogenitura foram dados aos filhos de José, filho de Israel, pois Rúben havia contaminado a cama de seu pai. Então, ele não é registrado como sendo o filho mais velho.

Y LOS hijos de Rubén, primogénito de Israel, (porque él era el primogénito, mas como violó el lecho de su padre, sus derechos de primogenitura fueron dados á los hijos de José, hijo de Israel; y no fué contado por primogénito.

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

Os rubenitas, os gaditas, e a meia tribo de Manassés, tinham quarenta e quatro mil soldados treinados para a guerra, que carregavam escudos e espadas, e sacavam o arco.
