1Denn ich will nicht, daß ihr unkundig seid, Brüder, daß unsere Väter alle unter der Wolke waren und alle durch das Meer hindurchgegangen sind,
2und alle auf Moses getauft wurden in der Wolke und in dem Meere,
3und alle dieselbe geistliche Speise aßen,
4und alle denselben geistlichen Trank tranken; denn sie tranken aus einem geistlichen Felsen, der sie begleitete.
5(Der Fels aber war der Christus.) An den meisten derselben aber hatte Gott kein Wohlgefallen, denn sie sind in der Wüste hingestreckt worden.
6Diese Dinge aber sind als Vorbilder für uns geschehen, daß wir nicht nach bösen Dingen gelüsten, gleichwie auch jene gelüsteten.
7Werdet auch nicht Götzendiener, gleichwie etliche von ihnen, wie geschrieben steht: “Das Volk setzte sich nieder, zu essen und zu trinken, und sie standen auf, zu spielen.”
8Auch laßt uns nicht Hurerei treiben, gleichwie etliche von ihnen Hurerei trieben, und es fielen an einem Tage dreiundzwanzigtausend.
9Laßt uns auch den Christus nicht versuchen, gleichwie etliche von ihnen ihn versuchten und von den Schlangen umgebracht wurden.
10Murret auch nicht, gleichwie etliche von ihnen murrten und von dem Verderber umgebracht wurden.
11Alle diese Dinge aber widerfuhren jenen als Vorbilder und sind geschrieben worden zu unserer Ermahnung, auf welche das Ende der Zeitalter gekommen ist.
12Daher, wer zu stehen sich dünkt, sehe zu, daß er nicht falle.
13Keine Versuchung hat euch ergriffen, als nur eine menschliche; Gott aber ist treu, der nicht zulassen wird, daß ihr über euer Vermögen versucht werdet, sondern mit der Versuchung auch den Ausgang schaffen wird, so daß ihr sie ertragen könnt.
14Darum meine Geliebten, fliehet den Götzendienst.
15Ich rede als zu Verständigen; beurteilet ihr, was ich sage.
16Der Kelch der Segnung, den wir segnen, ist er nicht die Gemeinschaft des Blutes des Christus? Das Brot, das wir brechen, ist es nicht die Gemeinschaft des Leibes des Christus?
17Denn ein Brot, ein Leib sind wir, die Vielen, denn wir alle nehmen teil an dem einen Brote.
18Sehet auf Israel nach dem Fleische. Sind nicht die, welche die Schlachtopfer essen, in Gemeinschaft mit dem Altar?
19Was sage ich nun? Daß das einem Götzen Geopferte etwas sei? Oder daß ein Götzenbild etwas sei?
20Sondern daß das, was [die Nationen] opfern, sie den Dämonen opfern und nicht Gott. Ich will aber nicht, daß ihr Gemeinschaft habt mit den Dämonen.
21Ihr könnt nicht des Herrn Kelch trinken und der Dämonen Kelch; ihr könnt nicht des Herrn Tisches teilhaftig sein und des Dämonentisches.
22Oder reizen wir den Herrn zur Eifersucht? Sind wir etwa stärker als er?
23Alles ist erlaubt, aber nicht alles ist nützlich; alles ist erlaubt, aber nicht alles erbaut.
24Niemand suche das Seine, sondern das des anderen.
25Alles, was auf dem Fleischmarkte verkauft wird, esset, ohne zu untersuchen um des Gewissens willen.
26Denn “die Erde ist des Herrn und ihre Fülle”.
27Wenn aber jemand von den Ungläubigen euch einladet, und ihr wollt hingehen, so esset alles, was euch vorgesetzt wird, ohne zu untersuchen um des Gewissens willen.
28Wenn aber jemand zu euch sagt: Dies ist als Opfer dargebracht worden, so esset nicht, um jenes willen, der es anzeigt, und um des Gewissens willen,
29des Gewissens aber, sage ich, nicht deines eigenen, sondern desjenigen des anderen; denn warum wird meine Freiheit von einem anderen Gewissen beurteilt?
30Wenn ich mit Danksagung teilhabe, warum werde ich gelästert über das, wofür ich danksage?
31Ob ihr nun esset oder trinket oder irgend etwas tut, tut alles zur Ehre Gottes.
32Seid ohne Anstoß, sowohl Juden als Griechen, und der Versammlung Gottes;
33gleichwie auch ich mich in allen Dingen allen gefällig mache, indem ich nicht meinen Vorteil suche, sondern den der Vielen, auf daß sie errettet werden.

1PORQUE no quiero, hermanos, que ignoréis que nuestros padres todos estuvieron bajo la nube, y todos pasaron la mar;
2Y todos en Moisés fueron bautizados en la nube y en la mar;
3Y todos comieron la misma vianda espiritual;
4Y todos bebieron la misma bebida espiritual; porque bebían de la piedra espiritual que los seguía, y la piedra era Cristo:
5Mas de muchos de ellos no se agradó Dios; por lo cual fueron postrados en el desierto.
6Empero estas cosas fueron en figura de nosotros, para que no codiciemos cosas malas, como ellos codiciaron.
7Ni seáis honradores de ídolos, como algunos de ellos; según está escrito: Sentóse el pueblo á comer y á beber, y se levantaron á jugar.
8Ni forniquemos, como algunos de ellos fornicaron, y cayeron en un día veinte y tres mil.
9Ni tentemos á Cristo, como también algunos de ellos le tentaron, y perecieron por las serpientes.
10Ni murmuréis, como algunos de ellos murmuraron, y perecieron por el destructor.
11Y estas cosas les acontecieron en figura; y son escritas para nuestra admonición, en quienes los fines de los siglos han parado.
12Así que, el que piensa estar firme, mire no caiga.
13No os ha tomado tentación, sino humana: mas fiel es Dios, que no os dejará ser tentados más de lo que podéis llevar; antes dará también juntamente con la tentación la salida, para que podáis aguantar.
14Por tanto, amados míos, huid de la idolatría.
15Como á sabios hablo; juzgad vosotros lo que digo.
16La copa de bendición que bendecimos, ¿no es la comunión de la sangre de Cristo? El pan que partimos, ¿no es la comunión del cuerpo de Cristo?
17Porque un pan, es que muchos somos un cuerpo; pues todos participamos de aquel un pan.
18Mirad á Israel según la carne: los que comen de los sacrificios ¿no son partícipes con el altar?
19¿Qué pues digo? ¿Que el ídolo es algo? ¿ó que sea algo lo que es sacrificado á los ídolos?
20Antes digo que lo que los Gentiles sacrifican, á los demonios lo sacrifican, y no á Dios: y no querría que vosotros fueseis partícipes con los demonios.
21No podéis beber la copa del Señor, y la copa de los demonios: no podéis ser partícipes de la mesa del Señor, y de la mesa de los demonios.
22¿O provocaremos á celo al Señor? ¿Somos más fuertes que él?
23Todo me es lícito, mas no todo conviene: todo me es lícito, mas no todo edifica.
24Ninguno busque su propio bien, sino el del otro.
25De todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia;
26Porque del Señor es la tierra y lo que la hinche.
27Y si algún infiel os llama, y queréis ir, de todo lo que se os pone delante comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia.
28Mas si alguien os dijere: Esto fué sacrificado á los ídolos: no lo comáis, por causa de aquel que lo declaró, y por causa de la conciencia: porque del Señor es la tierra y lo que la hinche.
29La conciencia, digo, no tuya, sino del otro. Pues ¿por qué ha de ser juzgada mi libertad por otra conciencia?
30Y si yo con agradecimiento participo, ¿por qué he de ser blasfemado por lo que doy gracias?
31Si pues coméis, ó bebéis, ó hacéis otra cosa, hacedlo todo á gloria de Dios.
32Sed sin ofensa á Judíos, y á Gentiles, y á la iglesia de Dios:
33Como también yo en todas las cosas complazco á todos, no procurando mi propio beneficio, sino el de muchos, para que sean salvos.

1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
15I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
16The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
17For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
18Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
19What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
20But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
21Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
22Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
23All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.
25Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
26For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.
27If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
28But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:
29Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?
30For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
31Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
32Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
33Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

1Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3and all ate the same spiritual food;
4and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
5However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
7Don’t be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
8Let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.
9Let’s not test Christ, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
10Don’t grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
11Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
12Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.
13No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
14Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
16The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ?
17Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.
18Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?
19What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.
21You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.
22Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
23“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.
24Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.
25Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,
26for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.”
27But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.
28But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, with all its fullness.”
29Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
30If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for something I give thanks for?
31Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
32Give no occasion for stumbling, whether to Jews, to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;
33even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
