1 Corintios 10

No quiero, hermanos que ignoren lo que le sucedió a nuestro pueblo siglos atrás, en el desierto. Todos estuvieron bajo la nube y todos atravesaron el mar.

PORQUE no quiero, hermanos, que ignoréis que nuestros padres todos estuvieron bajo la nube, y todos pasaron la mar;

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

A esto podríamos llamarlo «bautismo» —bautismo en el mar y en la nube— para unirse a Moisés.

Y todos en Moisés fueron bautizados en la nube y en la mar;

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Luego, comieron el mismo alimento espiritual

Y todos comieron la misma vianda espiritual;

And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

and all ate the same spiritual food;

y bebieron la misma bebida espiritual. Cristo estaba allí con ellos, como poderosa Roca de refrigerio espiritual.

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Sin embargo, a pesar de todo, la mayoría de los israelitas no obedecieron a Dios, y murieron allí mismo en el desierto.

Mas de muchos de ellos no se agradó Dios; por lo cual fueron postrados en el desierto.

De aquí aprendemos una gran lección: que no debemos desear lo malo como ellos lo desearon.

Empero estas cosas fueron en figura de nosotros, para que no codiciemos cosas malas, como ellos codiciaron.

No debemos adorar ídolos, como ellos. (Las Escrituras nos dicen que «el pueblo se sentó a comer y a beber, y luego se produjo el desenfreno»).

Ni seáis honradores de ídolos, como algunos de ellos; según está escrito: Sentóse el pueblo á comer y á beber, y se levantaron á jugar.

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

No debemos cometer inmoralidades sexuales, como varios de ellos hicieron, por lo que veintitrés mil cayeron muertos en un día.

Ni forniquemos, como algunos de ellos fornicaron, y cayeron en un día veinte y tres mil.

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.

No pongamos a prueba al Señor, porque muchos de ellos lo hicieron y murieron mordidos por serpientes.

Ni tentemos á Cristo, como también algunos de ellos le tentaron, y perecieron por las serpientes.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

Let’s not test Christ, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.

Y no murmuremos contra Dios, como hicieron algunos israelitas y el Señor envió a su ángel a destruirlos.

Ni murmuréis, como algunos de ellos murmuraron, y perecieron por el destructor.

Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

Don’t grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.

Estos incidentes ocurrieron para servirnos de ejemplo; son una advertencia y fueron escritos para nosotros que vivimos cuando el mundo se aproxima a su fin.

Y estas cosas les acontecieron en figura; y son escritas para nuestra admonición, en quienes los fines de los siglos han parado.

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Por lo tanto, el que piense que está firme, tenga cuidado de no caer.

Así que, el que piensa estar firme, mire no caiga.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.

Ustedes no han pasado por ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano. Pero pueden estar confiados en la fidelidad de Dios, que no dejará que la tentación sea más fuerte de lo que puedan resistir. Dios les mostrará la manera de resistir la tentación y escapar de ella.

No os ha tomado tentación, sino humana: mas fiel es Dios, que no os dejará ser tentados más de lo que podéis llevar; antes dará también juntamente con la tentación la salida, para que podáis aguantar.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Por lo tanto, hermanos amados, huyan de la idolatría.

Por tanto, amados míos, huid de la idolatría.

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Ustedes son inteligentes. Piénsenlo y díganme si no es verdad lo que les digo.

Como á sabios hablo; juzgad vosotros lo que digo.

Cuando damos gracias por la copa de bendición, ¿no quiere decir que participamos de las bendiciones de la sangre de Cristo? Y cuando partimos el pan para comerlo juntos, ¿no entramos en comunión con el cuerpo de Cristo?

La copa de bendición que bendecimos, ¿no es la comunión de la sangre de Cristo? El pan que partimos, ¿no es la comunión del cuerpo de Cristo?

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Por muchos que seamos, todos comemos del mismo pan, indicando que formamos parte de un solo cuerpo: el de Cristo.

Porque un pan, es que muchos somos un cuerpo; pues todos participamos de aquel un pan.

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.

Y el pueblo judío, que come de los sacrificios, ¿no entra en comunión con el altar?

Mirad á Israel según la carne: los que comen de los sacrificios ¿no son partícipes con el altar?

Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?

¿Qué estoy tratando de decir? ¿Digo que los ídolos que reciben sacrificios tienen vida y que tales sacrificios tienen valor?

¿Qué pues digo? ¿Que el ídolo es algo? ¿ó que sea algo lo que es sacrificado á los ídolos?

What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

No; de ninguna manera. Lo que digo es que los que ofrecen sacrificios a los ídolos, en realidad se los ofrecen a los demonios, y nunca a Dios. Y no quiero que ninguno de ustedes tenga comunión con los demonios.

Antes digo que lo que los Gentiles sacrifican, á los demonios lo sacrifican, y no á Dios: y no querría que vosotros fueseis partícipes con los demonios.

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.

No se puede beber de la copa del Señor y también de la copa de los demonios. No se puede participar de la mesa del Señor y también de la mesa de los demonios.

No podéis beber la copa del Señor, y la copa de los demonios: no podéis ser partícipes de la mesa del Señor, y de la mesa de los demonios.

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.

¿Qué, pues? ¿Nos arriesgaremos a poner celoso al Señor? ¿Somos más fuertes que él?

¿O provocaremos á celo al Señor? ¿Somos más fuertes que él?

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

Es verdad que «todo está permitido», pero no todo es provechoso ni edifica a los demás.

Todo me es lícito, mas no todo conviene: todo me es lícito, mas no todo edifica.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.

Uno no puede pensar sólo en uno mismo. Hay que pensar en lo que conviene para el bien de los demás.

Ninguno busque su propio bien, sino el del otro.

Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.

Coman de cualquier carne que se venda en la carnicería. No pregunten nada, por motivos de conciencia.

De todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia;

Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,

Porque la tierra y cuanto en ella hay pertenecen al Señor.

Porque del Señor es la tierra y lo que la hinche.

For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.

for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.”

Si alguien que no es cristiano los invita a comer, acepten la invitación y coman cuanto les pongan delante sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia.

Y si algún infiel os llama, y queréis ir, de todo lo que se os pone delante comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia.

If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.

Pero si alguien les advierte de que aquella carne fue sacrificada a los ídolos, no la coman por el bien del que lo dijo, y por motivos de conciencia.

Mas si alguien os dijere: Esto fué sacrificado á los ídolos: no lo comáis, por causa de aquel que lo declaró, y por causa de la conciencia: porque del Señor es la tierra y lo que la hinche.

But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:

But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, with all its fullness.”

En este caso, no me refiero a la conciencia de uno mismo, sino a la del otro. ¿Por qué tiene uno que guiarse por lo que otro piense y limitarse a sus opiniones?

La conciencia, digo, no tuya, sino del otro. Pues ¿por qué ha de ser juzgada mi libertad por otra conciencia?

Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?

Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?

Si le doy gracias a Dios por lo que como, ¿por qué me van a condenar por comerlo?

Y si yo con agradecimiento participo, ¿por qué he de ser blasfemado por lo que doy gracias?

For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for something I give thanks for?

En conclusión: uno debe de glorificar a Dios en todo lo que hace; hasta en lo que come y bebe.

Si pues coméis, ó bebéis, ó hacéis otra cosa, hacedlo todo á gloria de Dios.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

No seamos piedra de tropiezo para nadie: ni para los judíos ni para los gentiles ni para la iglesia de Dios.

Sed sin ofensa á Judíos, y á Gentiles, y á la iglesia de Dios:

Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

Give no occasion for stumbling, whether to Jews, to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;

Esto trato de hacer yo. Procuro agradar a todo el mundo. No hago sólo lo que me gusta o conviene, sino lo que es mejor para los demás, para que así se puedan salvar.

Como también yo en todas las cosas complazco á todos, no procurando mi propio beneficio, sino el de muchos, para que sean salvos.

Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
