Nunca devemos esquecer, amados irmãos, aquilo que aconteceu ao nosso povo no deserto, há muito tempo. Deus os guiou enviando uma nuvem que se movia à frente deles. Assim, ele os levou em segurança através do mar.
PORQUE no quiero, hermanos, que ignoréis que nuestros padres todos estuvieron bajo la nube, y todos pasaron la mar;

Isso poderia ser chamado seu batismo — batizados tanto no mar como na nuvem! — como seguidores de Moisés, representando sua submissão a ele como seu líder.

Não pratiquemos a imoralidade sexual, como alguns deles fizeram e 23.000 caíram mortos num só dia.

Todas essas coisas sucederam a eles como exemplos, como lições objetivas para nós, a fim de advertir-nos contra a prática das mesmas coisas; foram escritas para que sirvam de aviso para nós. Pois os tempos estão chegando ao fim.

Portanto, tenham cuidado. Se você está pensando: “Eu nunca faria uma coisa dessas”, que isso lhe sirva de advertência. Porque você também pode cair em pecado.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Lembrem-se que as tentações que vocês têm de enfrentar são as mesmas que os outros enfrentam. E nenhuma tentação é irresistível. Vocês podem confiar que Deus impedirá que a tentação se torne tão forte que não a possam enfrentar, visto que ele assim prometeu e cumprirá o que diz. Deus dará a vocês forças para suportá-la.
No os ha tomado tentación, sino humana: mas fiel es Dios, que no os dejará ser tentados más de lo que podéis llevar; antes dará también juntamente con la tentación la salida, para que podáis aguantar.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Portanto, meus queridos amigos, evitem cuidadosamente prestar adoração a ídolos de qualquer espécie.

Vocês são pessoas inteligentes. Julguem e vejam por si mesmos se não é verdade o que eu agora vou dizer.

Quando pedimos a bênção do Senhor quanto ao que bebemos do cálice de vinho à mesa do Senhor, isto significa que todos quantos bebem dele estão participando juntos da bênção do sangue de Cristo. E quando partimos os pedaços de pão para comer juntos ali, isso mostra que estamos participando conjuntamente do corpo de Cristo.
La copa de bendición que bendecimos, ¿no es la comunión de la sangre de Cristo? El pan que partimos, ¿no es la comunión del cuerpo de Cristo?

Não importa quantos somos, todos nós comemos do mesmo pão, mostrando assim que todos somos partes de um só corpo.

E, entre o povo de Israel, todos os que comem dos sacrifícios tomam parte no altar.
Mirad á Israel según la carne: los que comen de los sacrificios ¿no son partícipes con el altar?

Que é que estou procurando dizer? Estou acaso dizendo que os ídolos, a quem os pagãos levam sacrifícios, são alguma coisa? Ou que esses sacrifícios têm algum valor?
¿Qué pues digo? ¿Que el ídolo es algo? ¿ó que sea algo lo que es sacrificado á los ídolos?
What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
Não, absolutamente. O que estou dizendo é que aqueles que oferecem alimentos a esses ídolos estão unidos no sacrifício aos demônios, e não a Deus, certamente. Não desejo que nenhum de vocês seja participante com os demônios ao comer, junto com os pagãos, da mesma comida que foi oferecida aos ídolos.
Antes digo que lo que los Gentiles sacrifican, á los demonios lo sacrifican, y no á Dios: y no querría que vosotros fueseis partícipes con los demonios.
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

Vocês não podem beber do cálice à mesa do Senhor e também à mesa dos demônios. Não podem comer pão tanto à mesa do Senhor como à mesa dos demônios.
No podéis beber la copa del Señor, y la copa de los demonios: no podéis ser partícipes de la mesa del Señor, y de la mesa de los demonios.
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

Vocês estão provocando o Senhor a irar-se contra vocês? Será que vocês são mais fortes do que ele?
¿O provocaremos á celo al Señor? ¿Somos más fuertes que él?
Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
Certamente vocês são livres para comer alimentos oferecidos aos ídolos, se assim o quiserem; não é contra a lei de Deus comer tal carne, porém isso não significa que vocês deveriam comê-los. Pode ser perfeitamente legal, mas pode não ser a melhor coisa ou a coisa mais edificante.
Todo me es lícito, mas no todo conviene: todo me es lícito, mas no todo edifica.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.
Não pensem só em si mesmos. Procurem pensar no seu semelhante também e no que é melhor para ele.
Ninguno busque su propio bien, sino el del otro.
Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

Eis o que vocês devem fazer: Comam tudo o que for vendido no mercado. Não perguntem se a carne foi oferecida aos ídolos ou não, por causa da consciência de vocês.
De todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia;
Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

Porque “do Senhor é a terra e todas as boas coisas que nela existem”.

Se um incrédulo convidá-los para uma refeição, vão, aceitem o convite, se assim o desejarem. Comam de tudo quanto estiver sobre a mesa, porém não perguntem nada por causa da consciência.
Y si algún infiel os llama, y queréis ir, de todo lo que se os pone delante comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia.
If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

Entretanto, se alguém avisar-lhes que essa carne foi oferecida aos ídolos, então não a comam, por causa do homem que lhes disse isso e por causa da consciência.
Mas si alguien os dijere: Esto fué sacrificado á los ídolos: no lo comáis, por causa de aquel que lo declaró, y por causa de la conciencia: porque del Señor es la tierra y lo que la hinche.
But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:
But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, with all its fullness.”
Isto é, da consciência dele e não da sua. Pois por que a minha liberdade deveria ser julgada pela consciência do outro?
La conciencia, digo, no tuya, sino del otro. Pues ¿por qué ha de ser juzgada mi libertad por otra conciencia?
Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?

Se eu posso agradecer a Deus pelo alimento e saboreá-lo, por que devo ser condenado só porque outro pensa que eu estou errado?
Y si yo con agradecimiento participo, ¿por qué he de ser blasfemado por lo que doy gracias?
For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for something I give thanks for?
Portanto, quando vocês comem ou bebem ou fazem uma outra coisa qualquer, vocês devem fazer tudo para a glória de Deus.
Si pues coméis, ó bebéis, ó hacéis otra cosa, hacedlo todo á gloria de Dios.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Portanto, não sejam motivo de tropeço para ninguém, quer sejam eles judeus, gentios ou a igreja de Deus.

Give no occasion for stumbling, whether to Jews, to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;
Esse é o plano que eu também sigo. Procuro agradar a todos em tudo quanto faço, não fazendo aquilo que gosto, mas o que é melhor para muitos, a fim de que possam ser salvos.
Como también yo en todas las cosas complazco á todos, no procurando mi propio beneficio, sino el de muchos, para que sean salvos.
