1 Corintios 13

1Quand’io parlassi le lingue degli uomini e degli angeli, se non ho carità, divento un rame risonante o uno squillante cembalo.
2E quando avessi il dono di profezia e conoscessi tutti i misteri e tutta la scienza, e avessi tutta la fede in modo da trasportare i monti, se non ho carità, non son nulla.
3E quando distribuissi tutte le mie facoltà per nutrire i poveri, e quando dessi il mio corpo ad essere arso, se non ho carità, ciò niente mi giova.
4La carità è paziente, è benigna; la carità non invidia; la carità non si vanta, non si gonfia,
5non si comporta in modo sconveniente, non cerca il proprio interesse, non s’inasprisce, non sospetta il male,
6non gode dell’ingiustizia, ma gioisce con la verità;
7soffre ogni cosa, crede ogni cosa, spera ogni cosa, sopporta ogni cosa.
8La carità non verrà mai meno. Quanto alle profezie, esse verranno abolite; quanto alle lingue, esse cesseranno; quanto alla conoscenza, essa verrà abolita;
9poiché noi conosciamo in parte, e in parte profetizziamo;
10ma quando la perfezione sarà venuta, quello che è solo in parte, sarà abolito.
11Quand’ero fanciullo, parlavo da fanciullo, pensavo da fanciullo, ragionavo da fanciullo; ma quando son diventato uomo, ho smesso le cose da fanciullo.
12Poiché ora vediamo come in uno specchio, in modo oscuro; ma allora vedremo faccia a faccia; ora conosco in parte; ma allora conoscerò appieno, come anche sono stato appieno conosciuto.
13Or dunque queste tre cose durano: fede, speranza, carità; ma la più grande di esse è la carità.

1SI yo hablase lenguas humanas y angélicas, y no tengo caridad, vengo á ser como metal que resuena, ó címbalo que retiñe.
2Y si tuviese profecía, y entendiese todos los misterios y toda ciencia; y si tuviese toda la fe, de tal manera que traspasase los montes, y no tengo caridad, nada soy.
3Y si repartiese toda mi hacienda para dar de comer á pobres, y si entregase mi cuerpo para ser quemado, y no tengo caridad, de nada me sirve.
4La caridad es sufrida, es benigna; la caridad no tiene envidia, la caridad no hace sinrazón, no se ensancha;
5No es injuriosa, no busca lo suyo, no se irrita, no piensa el mal;
6No se huelga de la injusticia, mas se huelga de la verdad;
7Todo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.
8La caridad nunca deja de ser: mas las profecías se han de acabar, y cesarán las lenguas, y la ciencia ha de ser quitada;
9Porque en parte conocemos, y en parte profetizamos;
10Mas cuando venga lo que es perfecto, entonces lo que es en parte será quitado.
11Cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, juzgaba como niño; mas cuando ya fuí hombre hecho, dejé lo que era de niño.
12Ahora vemos por espejo, en obscuridad; mas entonces veremos cara á cara: ahora conozco en parte; mas entonces conoceré como soy conocido.
13Y ahora permanecen la fe, la esperanza, y la caridad, estas tres: empero la mayor de ellas es la caridad.

1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

1If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don’t have love, I am nothing.
3If I give away all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing.
4Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud,
5doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil;
6doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.
9For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
10but when that which is complete has come, then that which is partial will be done away with.
11When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away childish things.
12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.
13But now faith, hope, and love remain—these three. The greatest of these is love.
