1Strebet nach der Liebe! Fleißiget euch der geistlichen Gaben, am meisten aber, daß ihr weissagen möget!
2Denn der mit Zungen redet, der redet nicht den Menschen, sondern Gott; denn ihm hört niemand zu, im Geist aber redet er die Geheimnisse.
3Wer aber weissagt, der redet den Menschen zur Besserung und zur Ermahnung und zur Tröstung.
4Wer mit Zungen redet, der bessert sich selbst; wer aber weissagt, der bessert die Gemeinde.
5Ich wollte, daß ihr alle mit Zungen reden könntet; aber viel mehr, daß ihr weissagt. Denn der da weissagt, ist größer, als der mit Zungen redet; es sei denn, daß er's auch auslege, daß die Gemeinde davon gebessert werde.
6Nun aber, liebe Brüder, wenn ich zu euch käme und redete mit Zungen, was wäre es euch nütze, so ich nicht mit euch redete entweder durch Offenbarung oder durch Erkenntnis oder durch Weissagung oder durch Lehre?
7Verhält sich's doch auch also mit den Dingen, die da lauten, und doch nicht leben; es sei eine Pfeife oder eine Harfe: wenn sie nicht unterschiedene Töne von sich geben, wie kann man erkennen, was gepfiffen oder geharft wird?
8Und so die Posaune einen undeutlichen Ton gibt, wer wird sich zum Streit rüsten?
9Also auch ihr, wenn ihr mit Zungen redet, so ihr nicht eine deutliche Rede gebet, wie kann man wissen, was geredet ist? Denn ihr werdet in den Wind reden.
10Es ist mancherlei Art der Stimmen in der Welt, und derselben ist keine undeutlich.
11So ich nun nicht weiß der Stimme Bedeutung, werde ich unverständlich sein dem, der da redet, und der da redet, wird mir unverständlich sein.
12Also auch ihr, sintemal ihr euch fleißigt der geistlichen Gaben, trachtet darnach, daß ihr alles reichlich habet, auf daß ihr die Gemeinde bessert.
13Darum, welcher mit Zungen redet, der bete also, daß er's auch auslege.
14Denn so ich mit Zungen bete, so betet mein Geist; aber mein Sinn bringt niemand Frucht.
15Wie soll das aber dann sein? Ich will beten mit dem Geist und will beten auch im Sinn; ich will Psalmen singen im Geist und will auch Psalmen singen mit dem Sinn.
16Wenn du aber segnest im Geist, wie soll der, so an des Laien Statt steht, Amen sagen auf deine Danksagung, sintemal er nicht weiß, was du sagst?
17Du danksagest wohl fein, aber der andere wird nicht davon gebessert.
18Ich danke meinem Gott, daß ich mehr mit Zungen rede denn ihr alle.
19Aber ich will in der Gemeinde lieber fünf Worte reden mit meinem Sinn, auf daß ich auch andere unterweise, denn zehntausend Worte mit Zungen.
20Liebe Brüder, werdet nicht Kinder an dem Verständnis; sondern an der Bosheit seid Kinder, an dem Verständnis aber seid vollkommen.
21Im Gesetz steht geschrieben: Ich will mit andern Zungen und mit andern Lippen reden zu diesem Volk, und sie werden mich auch also nicht hören, spricht der HERR.”
22Darum sind die Zungen zum Zeichen nicht den Gläubigen, sondern den Ungläubigen; die Weissagung aber nicht den Ungläubigen, sondern den Gläubigen.
23Wenn nun die ganze Gemeinde zusammenkäme an einen Ort und redeten alle mit Zungen, es kämen aber hinein Laien oder Ungläubige, würden sie nicht sagen, ihr wäret unsinnig?
24So sie aber alle weissagen und käme dann ein Ungläubiger oder Laie hinein, der würde von ihnen allen gestraft und von allen gerichtet;
25und also würde das Verborgene seines Herzens offenbar, und er würde also fallen auf sein Angesicht, Gott anbeten und bekennen, daß Gott wahrhaftig in euch sei.
26Wie ist es denn nun, liebe Brüder? Wenn ihr zusammenkommt, so hat ein jeglicher Psalmen, er hat eine Lehre, er hat Zungen, er hat Offenbarung, er hat Auslegung. Laßt alles geschehen zur Besserung!
27So jemand mit Zungen redet, so seien es ihrer zwei oder aufs meiste drei, und einer um den andern; und einer lege es aus.
28Ist aber kein Ausleger da, so schweige er in der Gemeinde, rede aber sich selber und Gott.
29Weissager aber lasset reden zwei oder drei, und die andern lasset richten.
30So aber eine Offenbarung geschieht einem andern, der da sitzt, so schweige der erste.
31Ihr könnt wohl alle weissagen, einer nach dem andern, auf daß sie alle lernen und alle ermahnt werden.
32Und die Geister der Propheten sind den Propheten untertan.
33Denn Gott ist nicht ein Gott der Unordnung, sondern des Friedens.
34Wie in allen Gemeinden der Heiligen lasset eure Weiber schweigen in der Gemeinde; denn es soll ihnen nicht zugelassen werden, daß sie reden, sondern sie sollen untertan sein, wie auch das Gesetz sagt.
35Wollen sie etwas lernen, so lasset sie daheim ihre Männer fragen. Es steht den Weibern übel an, in der Gemeinde zu reden.
36Oder ist das Wort Gottes von euch ausgekommen? Oder ist's allein zu euch gekommen?
37So sich jemand läßt dünken, er sei ein Prophet oder geistlich, der erkenne, was ich euch schreibe; denn es sind des HERRN Gebote.
38Ist aber jemand unwissend, der sei unwissend.
39Darum, liebe Brüder, fleißiget euch des Weissagens und wehret nicht, mit Zungen zu reden.
40Lasset alles ehrbar und ordentlich zugehen.

1SEGUID la caridad; y procurad los dones espirituales, mas sobre todo que profeticéis.
2Porque el que habla en lenguas, no habla á los hombres, sino á Dios; porque nadie le entiende, aunque en espíritu hable misterios.
3Mas el que profetiza, habla á los hombres para edificación, y exhortación, y consolación.
4El que habla lengua extraña, á sí mismo se edifica; mas el que profetiza, edifica á la iglesia.
5Así que, quisiera que todos vosotros hablaseis lenguas, empero más que profetizaseis: porque mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla lenguas, si también no interpretare, para que la iglesia tome edificación.
6Ahora pues, hermanos, si yo fuere á vosotros hablando lenguas, ¿qué os aprovecharé, si no os hablare, ó con revelación, ó con ciencia, ó con profecía, ó con doctrina?
7Ciertamente las cosas inanimadas que hacen sonidos, como la flauta ó la vihuela, si no dieren distinción de voces, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se tañe con la flauta, ó con la vihuela?
8Y si la trompeta diere sonido incierto, ¿quién se apercibirá á la batalla?
9Así también vosotros, si por la lengua no diereis palabra bien significante, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que se dice? porque hablaréis al aire.
10Tantos géneros de voces, por ejemplo, hay en el mundo, y nada hay mudo;
11Mas si yo ignorare el valor de la voz, seré bárbaro al que habla, y el que habla será bárbaro para mí.
12Así también vosotros; pues que anheláis espirituales dones, procurad ser excelentes para la edificación de la iglesia.
13Por lo cual, el que habla lengua extraña, pida que la interprete.
14Porque si yo orare en lengua desconocida, mi espíritu ora; mas mi entendimiento es sin fruto.
15¿Qué pues? Oraré con el espíritu, mas oraré también con entendimiento; cantaré con el espíritu, mas cantaré también con entendimiento.
16Porque si bendijeres con el espíritu, el que ocupa lugar de un mero particular, ¿cómo dirá amén á tu acción de gracias? pues no sabe lo que has dicho.
17Porque tú, á la verdad, bien haces gracias; mas el otro no es edificado.
18Doy gracias á Dios que hablo lenguas más que todos vosotros:
19Pero en la iglesia más quiero hablar cinco palabras con mi sentido, para que enseñe también á los otros, que diez mil palabras en lengua desconocida.
20Hermanos, no seáis niños en el sentido, sino sed niños en la malicia: empero perfectos en el sentido.
21En la ley está escrito: En otras lenguas y en otros labios hablaré á este pueblo; y ni aun así me oirán, dice el Señor.
22Así que, las lenguas por señal son, no á los fieles, sino á los infieles: mas la profecía, no á los infieles, sino á los fieles.
23De manera que, si toda la iglesia se juntare en uno, y todos hablan lenguas, y entran indoctos ó infieles, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?
24Mas si todos profetizan, y entra algún infiel ó indocto, de todos es convencido, de todos es juzgado;
25Lo oculto de su corazón se hace manifiesto: y así, postrándose sobre el rostro, adorará á Dios, declarando que verdaderamente Dios está en vosotros.
26¿Qué hay pues, hermanos? Cuando os juntáis, cada uno de vosotros tiene salmo, tiene doctrina, tiene lengua, tiene revelación, tiene interpretación: hágase todo para edificación.
27Si hablare alguno en lengua extraña, sea esto por dos, ó á lo más tres, y por turno; mas uno interprete.
28Y si no hubiere intérprete, calle en la iglesia, y hable á sí mismo y á Dios.
29Asimismo, los profetas hablen dos ó tres, y los demás juzguen.
30Y si á otro que estuviere sentado, fuere revelado, calle el primero.
31Porque podéis todos profetizar uno por uno, para que todos aprendan, y todos sean exhortados.
32Y los espíritus de los que profetizaren, sujétense á los profetas;
33Porque Dios no es Dios de disensión, sino de paz; como en todas las iglesias de los santos.
34Vuestras mujeres callen en las congregaciones; porque no les es permitido hablar, sino que estén sujetas, como también la ley dice.
35Y si quieren aprender alguna cosa, pregunten en casa á sus maridos; porque deshonesta cosa es hablar una mujer en la congregación.
36Qué, ¿ha salido de vosotros la palabra de Dios? ¿ó á vosotros solos ha llegado?
37Si alguno á su parecer, es profeta, ó espiritual, reconozca lo que os escribo, porque son mandamientos del Señor.
38Mas el que ignora, ignore.
39Así que, hermanos, procurad profetizar; y no impidáis el hablar lenguas.
40Empero hágase todo decentemente y con orden.

1Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
2For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
6Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
10There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
11Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
12Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
13Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
14For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
21In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
26How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
27If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
30If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
31For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
32And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
35And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
36What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
37If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
38But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
40Let all things be done decently and in order.

1Follow after love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
2For he who speaks in another language speaks not to men, but to God, for no one understands, but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.
3But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation.
4He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly.
5Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but even more that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.
6But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?
7Even lifeless things that make a sound, whether pipe or harp, if they didn’t give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped?
8For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?
9So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air.

15What should I do? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn’t know what you say?
17For you most certainly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.
18I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all.
19However, in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.
20Brothers, don’t be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature.
21In the law it is written, “By men of strange languages and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people. They won’t even listen to me that way, says the Lord.”
22Therefore other languages are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.
23If therefore the whole assembly is assembled together and all speak with other languages, and unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won’t they say that you are crazy?
24But if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and he is judged by all.
25And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.
26What is it then, brothers? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has another language, or has an interpretation. Let all things be done to build each other up.
27If any man speaks in another language, let there be two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret.
28But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God.
29Let two or three of the prophets speak, and let the others discern.
30But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent.
31For you all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be exhorted.
32The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets,
33for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.
34Let the wives be quiet in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to be talking except in submission, as the law also says,
35if they desire to learn anything. “Let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a wife to be talking in the assembly.”
36What!? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone?
37If any man thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.
38But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39Therefore, brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking with other languages.
40Let all things be done decently and in order.
