En orden a las cosas sobre que me habéis escrito respondo: Loable cosa es en el hombre no tocar mujer.
CUANTO á las cosas de que me escribisteis, bien es al hombre no tocar mujer.
Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
Now concerning the things about which you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman.
Mas por evitar la fornicación, viva cada uno con su mujer, y cada una con su marido.
Mas á causa de las fornicaciones, cada uno tenga su mujer, y cada una tenga su marido.
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
But, because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
El marido pague a la mujer el débito, y de la misma suerte la mujer al marido.

The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

No queráis, pues, defraudaros el derecho recíproco, a no ser por algún tiempo de común acuerdo, para dedicaros a la oración; y después volved a cohabitar, no sea que os tiente Satanás por vuestra incontinencia.
No os defraudéis el uno al otro, á no ser por algún tiempo de mutuo consentimiento, para ocuparos en la oración: y volved á juntaros en uno, porque no os tiente Satanás á causa de vuestra incontinencia.
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
Don’t deprive one another, unless it is by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and may be together again, that Satan doesn’t tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Esto lo digo por condescendencia, que no lo mando.
Mas esto digo por permisión, no por mandamiento.
But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment.
A la verdad me alegraría que fueseis todos tales como yo mismo, esto es, célibes; mas cada uno tiene de Dios su propio don, quien de una manera, quien de otra.
Quisiera más bien que todos los hombres fuesen como yo: empero cada uno tiene su propio don de Dios; uno á la verdad así, y otro así.
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
Yet I wish that all men were like me. However, each man has his own gift from God, one of this kind, and another of that kind.
Pero sí que digo a las personas no casadas y viudas: Bueno les es si así permanecen, como también permanezco yo.
Digo pues á los solteros y á las viudas, que bueno les es si se quedaren como yo.
I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
But I say to the unmarried and to widows, it is good for them if they remain even as I am.
Mas si no tienen don de continencia, cásense. Pues más vale casarse, que abrasarse.
Y si no tienen don de continencia, cásense; que mejor es casarse que quemarse.
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
But if they don’t have self-control, let them marry. For it’s better to marry than to burn with passion.
Pero a las personas casadas mando, no yo, sino el Señor, que la mujer no se separe del marido;
Mas á los que están juntos en matrimonio, denuncio, no yo, sino el Señor: Que la mujer no se aparte del marido;
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

que si se separa por justa causa, no pase a otras nupcias, o bien reconcíliese con su marido. Ni tampoco el marido repudie a su mujer.
Y si se apartare, que se quede sin casar, ó reconcíliese con su marido; y que el marido no despida á su mujer.
But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
(but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife.
Pero a los demás digo yo mi dictamen, no que el Señor lo mande, si algún hermano tiene por mujer a un infiel o idólatra, y ésta consiente en habitar con él, no la repudie.
Y á los demás yo digo, no el Señor: Si algún hermano tiene mujer infiel, y ella consiente en habitar con él, no la despida.
But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
But to the rest I—not the Lord—say, if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is content to live with him, let him not leave her.
Y si alguna mujer fiel o cristiana tiene por marido a un infiel, y éste consiente en habitar con ella, no abandone a su marido.
Y la mujer que tiene marido infiel, y él consiente en habitar con ella, no lo deje.
And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
The woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he is content to live with her, let her not leave her husband.
Porque un marido infiel es santificado por la mujer fiel, y la mujer infiel santificada por el marido fiel; de lo contrario, vuestros hijos serían mancillados, cuando ahora son santos.
Porque el marido infiel es santificado en la mujer, y la mujer infiel en el marido: pues de otra manera vuestros hijos serían inmundos; empero ahora son santos.
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Pero si el infiel se separa, sepárese enhorabuena; porque en tal caso ni nuestro hermano, ni nuestra hermana deben sujetarse a servidumbre; pues Dios nos ha llamado a un estado de paz y tranquilidad.
Pero si el infiel se aparta, apártese: que no es el hermano ó la hermana sujeto á servidumbre en semejante caso; antes á paz nos llamó Dios.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
Yet if the unbeliever departs, let there be separation. The brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us in peace.
Porque ¿sabes tú, mujer, si salvarás o convertirás al marido?; ¿y tú, marido, sabes si salvarás a la mujer?
Porque ¿de dónde sabes, oh mujer, si quizá harás salvo á tu marido? ¿ó de dónde sabes, oh marido, si quizá harás salva á tu mujer?
For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
Pero proceda cada cual conforme al don que Dios le ha repartido, y según el estado en que se hallaba cuando Dios le llamó a la fe; y así es como lo enseño en todas las iglesias.
Empero cada uno como el Señor le repartió, y como Dios llamó á cada uno, así ande: y así enseño en todas las iglesias.
But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
Only, as the Lord has distributed to each man, as God has called each, so let him walk. So I command in all the assemblies.
¿Fue uno llamado siendo circunciso?; no afecte parecer incircunciso. ¿Fue otro llamado estando incircunciso?; no se haga circuncidar.
¿Es llamado alguno circuncidado? quédese circunciso. ¿Es llamado alguno incircuncidado? que no se circuncide.
Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
Was anyone called having been circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.
Nada importa ahora ser circuncidado, y nada importa no serlo; lo que importa a judíos y a gentiles es la observancia de los mandamientos de Dios.
La circuncisión nada es, y la incircuncisión nada es; sino la observancia de las mandamientos de Dios.
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is keeping God’s commandments.
Manténgase, pues, cada uno en el estado que tenía cuando Dios le llamó.
Cada uno en la vocación en que fué llamado, en ella se quede.
Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
Let each man stay in that calling in which he was called.
¿Fuiste llamado siendo siervo?; no te impacientes viéndote en tal condición; antes bien saca provecho de eso mismo, aun cuando pudieses ser libre.
¿Eres llamado siendo siervo? no se te dé cuidado: mas también si puedes hacerte libre, procúralo más.
Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
Were you called being a bondservant? Don’t let that bother you, but if you get an opportunity to become free, use it.
Pues aquel que siendo esclavo es llamado al servicio del Señor, se hace liberto del Señor; y de la misma manera aquel que es llamado siendo libre, se hace esclavo de Cristo .
Porque el que en el Señor es llamado siendo siervo, liberto es del Señor: asimismo también el que es llamado siendo libre, siervo es de Cristo.
For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.
For he who was called in the Lord being a bondservant is the Lord’s free man. Likewise he who was called being free is Christ’s bondservant.
Rescatados habéis sido a gran costa, no queráis haceros esclavos de los hombres.
Por precio sois comprados; no os hagáis siervos de los hombres.
Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
You were bought with a price. Don’t become bondservants of men.
Cada uno, hermanos míos, permanezca para con Dios en el estado civil en que fue llamado.
Cada uno, hermanos, en lo que es llamado, en esto se quede para con Dios.
Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
Brothers, let each man, in whatever condition he was called, stay in that condition with God.
En orden a las vírgenes, precepto del Señor yo no lo tengo; doy, sí, consejo, como quien ha conseguido del Señor la misericordia de ser fiel ministro suyo.
Empero de las vírgenes no tengo mandamiento del Señor; mas doy mi parecer, como quien ha alcanzado misericordia del Señor para ser fiel.
Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
Now concerning virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord to be trustworthy.
Juzgo, pues, que este estado es ventajoso a causa de las miserias de la vida presente; que es, digo, ventajoso al hombre no casarse.
Tengo, pues, esto por bueno á causa de la necesidad que apremia, que bueno es al hombre estarse así.
I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
Therefore I think that because of the distress that is on us, it’s good for a man to remain as he is.
¿Estás ligado a una mujer?, no busques quedar desligado. ¿Estás sin tener mujer?, no busques casarte.
¿Estás ligado á mujer? no procures soltarte. ¿Estás suelto de mujer? no procures mujer.
Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
Are you bound to a wife? Don’t seek to be freed. Are you free from a wife? Don’t seek a wife.
Si te casares, no por eso pecas. Y si una doncella se casa, tampoco peca; pero estos tales sufrirán en su carne aflicciones y trabajos inseparables del matrimonio . Mas yo os perdono, lo dejo a vuestra consideración.
Mas también si tomares mujer, no pecaste; y si la doncella se casare, no pecó: pero aflicción de carne tendrán los tales: mas yo os dejo.
But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
But if you marry, you have not sinned. If a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Yet such will have oppression in the flesh, and I want to spare you.
Y lo que digo, hermanos míos, es, que el tiempo es corto; y que así lo que importa es que los que tienen mujer vivan como si no la tuviesen;
Esto empero digo, hermanos, que el tiempo es corto: lo que resta es, que los que tienen mujeres sean como los que no las tienen;
But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
But I say this, brothers: the time is short. From now on, both those who have wives may be as though they had none;
y los que lloran, como si no llorasen; y los que están alegres lo es como si no lo estuviesen; y los que hacen compras, como si nada poseyesen;
Y los que lloran, como los que no lloran; y los que se huelgan, como los que no se huelgan; y los que compran, como los que no poseen;
And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
and those who weep, as though they didn’t weep; and those who rejoice, as though they didn’t rejoice; and those who buy, as though they didn’t possess;
y los que gozan del mundo, como si no gozasen de él; porque la escena o apariencia de este mundo pasa en un momento,
Y los que usan de este mundo, como los que no usan: porque la apariencia de este mundo se pasa.
And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
and those who use the world, as not using it to the fullest. For the mode of this world passes away.
Ahora bien; yo deseo que viváis sin cuidados ni inquietudes. El que no tiene mujer, anda únicamente solícito de las cosas del Señor, y en lo que ha de hacer para agradar a Dios.
Quisiera, pues, que estuvieseis sin congoja. El soltero tiene cuidado de las cosas que son del Señor, cómo ha de agradar al Señor:
But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
But I desire to have you to be free from cares. He who is unmarried is concerned for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord;
Al contrario, el que tiene mujer anda afanado en las cosas del mundo, y en cómo ha de agradar a la mujer, y así se halla dividido.
Empero el que se casó tiene cuidado de las cosas que son del mundo, cómo ha de agradar á su mujer.
But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
but he who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife.
De la misma manera la mujer no casada, y una virgen, piensa en las cosas de Dios, para ser santa en cuerpo y alma. Mas la casada piensa en las del mundo, y en cómo ha de agradar al marido.
Hay asimismo diferencia entre la casada y la doncella: la doncella tiene cuidado de las cosas del Señor, para ser santa así en el cuerpo como en el espíritu: mas la casada tiene cuidado de las cosas del mundo, cómo ha de agradar á su marido.
There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
There is also a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world—how she may please her husband.
Por lo demás yo digo esto para provecho vuestro; no para echaros un lazo y obligaros a la continencia, sino solamente para exhortaros a lo más loable, y a lo que habilita para servir a Dios sin ningún lazo.
Esto empero digo para vuestro provecho; no para echaros lazo, sino para lo honesto y decente, y para que sin impedimento os lleguéis al Señor.
And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
This I say for your own benefit, not that I may ensnare you, but for that which is appropriate, and that you may attend to the Lord without distraction.
Mas si a alguno le parece que es un deshonor que su hija pase la flor de la edad sin contraer matrimonio , y juzga deber casarla, haga lo que quisiere; no peca, si ella se casa.
Mas, si á alguno parece cosa fea en su hija virgen, que pase ya de edad, y que así conviene que se haga, haga lo que quisiere, no peca; cásese.
But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
But if any man thinks that he is behaving inappropriately toward his virgin, if she is past the flower of her age, and if need so requires, let him do what he desires. He doesn’t sin. Let them marry.
Aunque por otra parte quien ha hecho en su interior la firme resolución de conservar virgen a su hija no teniendo necesidad de obrar de otro modo, sino pudiendo disponer en esto de su voluntad, y así lo ha determinado en su corazón, obra bien.
Pero el que está firme en su corazón, y no tiene necesidad, sino que tiene libertad de su voluntad, y determinó en su corazón esto, el guardar su hija virgen, bien hace.
Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
But he who stands steadfast in his heart, having no urgency, but has power over his own will, and has determined in his own heart to keep his own virgin, does well.
En suma, el que da a su hija en matrimonio , obra bien; mas el que no la da, obra mejor.
Así que, el que la da en casamiento, bien hace; y el que no la da en casamiento, hace mejor.
So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
So then both he who gives his own virgin in marriage does well, and he who doesn’t give her in marriage does better.
La mujer está ligada a la ley del matrimonio mientras que vive su marido; pero si su marido fallece, queda libre; cásese con quien quiera, con tal que sea según el Señor.
La mujer casada está atada á la ley, mientras vive su marido; mas si su marido muriere, libre es: cásese con quien quisiere, con tal que sea en el Señor.
The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she desires, only in the Lord.
Pero mucho más dichosa será si permaneciere viuda, según mi consejo; y estoy persuadido de que también en esto me anima el Espíritu de Dios.
Empero más venturosa será si se quedare así, según mi consejo; y pienso que también yo tengo Espíritu de Dios.
But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
But she is happier if she stays as she is, in my judgment, and I think that I also have God’s Spirit.
