1Sehet, welch eine Liebe hat uns der Vater erzeigt, daß wir Gottes Kinder sollen heißen! Darum kennt euch die Welt nicht; denn sie kennt ihn nicht.
2Meine Lieben, wir sind nun Gottes Kinder; und es ist noch nicht erschienen, was wir sein werden. Wir wissen aber, wenn es erscheinen wird, daß wir ihm gleich sein werden; denn wir werden ihn sehen, wie er ist.
3Und ein jeglicher, der solche Hoffnung hat zu ihm, der reinigt sich, gleichwie er auch rein ist.
4Wer Sünde tut, der tut auch Unrecht, und die Sünde ist das Unrecht.
5Und ihr wisset, daß er ist erschienen, auf daß er unsre Sünden wegnehme, und es ist keine Sünde in ihm.
6Wer in ihm bleibt, der sündigt nicht; wer da sündigt, der hat ihn nicht gesehen noch erkannt.
7Kindlein, laßt euch niemand verführen! Wer recht tut, der ist gerecht, gleichwie er gerecht ist.
8Wer Sünde tut, der ist vom Teufel; denn der Teufel sündigt von Anfang. Dazu ist erschienen der Sohn Gottes, daß er die Werke des Teufels zerstöre.
9Wer aus Gott geboren ist, der tut nicht Sünde, denn sein Same bleibt bei ihm; und kann nicht sündigen, denn er ist von Gott geboren.
10Daran wird's offenbar, welche die Kinder Gottes und die Kinder des Teufels sind. Wer nicht recht tut, der ist nicht von Gott, und wer nicht seinen Bruder liebhat.
11Denn das ist die Botschaft, die ihr gehört habt von Anfang, daß wir uns untereinander lieben sollen.
12Nicht wie Kain, der von dem Argen war und erwürgte seinen Bruder. Und warum erwürgte er ihn? Weil seine Werke böse waren, und die seines Bruders gerecht.
13Verwundert euch nicht, meine Brüder, wenn euch die Welt haßt.
14Wir wissen, daß wir aus dem Tode in das Leben gekommen sind; denn wir lieben die Brüder. Wer den Bruder nicht liebt, der bleibt im Tode.
15Wer seinen Bruder haßt, der ist ein Totschläger; und ihr wisset, daß ein Totschläger hat nicht das ewige Leben bei ihm bleibend.
16Daran haben wir erkannt die Liebe, daß er sein Leben für uns gelassen hat; und wir sollen auch das Leben für die Brüder lassen.
17Wenn aber jemand dieser Welt Güter hat und sieht seinen Bruder darben und schließt sein Herz vor ihm zu, wie bleibt die Liebe Gottes bei ihm?
18Meine Kindlein, laßt uns nicht lieben mit Worten noch mit der Zunge, sondern mit der Tat und mit der Wahrheit.
19Daran erkennen wir, daß wir aus der Wahrheit sind, und können unser Herz vor ihm damit stillen,
20daß, so uns unser Herz verdammt, Gott größer ist denn unser Herz und erkennt alle Dinge.
21Ihr Lieben, so uns unser Herz nicht verdammt, so haben wir eine Freudigkeit zu Gott,
22und was wir bitten, werden wir von ihm nehmen; denn wir halten seine Gebote und tun, was vor ihm gefällig ist.
23Und das ist sein Gebot, daß wir glauben an den Namen seines Sohnes Jesu Christi und lieben uns untereinander, wie er uns ein Gebot gegeben hat.
24Und wer seine Gebote hält, der bleibt in ihm und er in ihm. Und daran erkennen wir, daß er in uns bleibt, an dem Geist, den er uns gegeben hat.

1MIRAD cuál amor nos ha dado el Padre, que seamos llamados hijos de Dios: por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no le conoce á él.
2Muy amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aun no se ha manifestado lo que hemos de ser; pero sabemos que cuando él apareciere, seremos semejantes á él, porque le veremos como él es.
3Y cualquiera que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica, como él también es limpio.
4Cualquiera que hace pecado, traspasa también la ley; pues el pecado es transgresión de la ley.
5Y sabéis que él apareció para quitar nuestros pecados, y no hay pecado en él.
6Cualquiera que permanece en él, no peca; cualquiera que peca, no le ha visto, ni le ha conocido.
7Hijitos, no os engañe ninguno: el que hace justicia, es justo, como él también es justo.
8El que hace pecado, es del diablo; porque el diablo peca desde el principio. Para esto apareció el Hijo de Dios, para deshacer las obras del diablo.
9Cualquiera que es nacido de Dios, no hace pecado, porque su simiente está en él; y no puede pecar, porque es nacido de Dios.
10En esto son manifiestos los hijos de Dios, y los hijos del diablo: cualquiera que no hace justicia, y que no ama á su hermano, no es de Dios.
11Porque este es el mensaje que habéis oído desde el principio: Que nos amemos unos á otros.
12No como Caín, que era del maligno, y mató á su hermano. ¿Y por qué causa le mató? Porque sus obras eran malas, y las de su hermano justas.
13Hermanos míos, no os maravilléis si el mundo os aborrece.
14Nosotros sabemos que hemos pasado de muerte á vida, en que amamos á los hermanos. El que no ama á su hermano, está en muerte.
15Cualquiera que aborrece á su hermano, es homicida; y sabéis que ningún homicida tiene vida eterna permaneciente en sí.
16En esto hemos conocido el amor, porque él puso su vida por nosotros: también nosotros debemos poner nuestras vidas por los hermanos.
17Mas el que tuviere bienes de este mundo, y viere á su hermano tener necesidad, y le cerrare sus entrañas, ¿cómo está el amor de Dios en él?
18Hijitos míos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de obra y en verdad.
19Y en esto conocemos que somos de la verdad, y tenemos nuestros corazones certificados delante de él.
20Porque si nuestro corazón nos reprendiere, mayor es Dios que nuestro corazón, y conoce todas las cosas.
21Carísimos, si nuestro corazón no nos reprende, confianza tenemos en Dios;
22Y cualquier cosa que pidiéremos, la recibiremos de él, porque guardamos sus mandamientos, y hacemos las cosas que son agradables delante de él.
23Y éste es su mandamiento: Que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, y nos amemos unos á otros como nos lo ha mandado.
24Y el que guarda sus mandamientos, está en él, y él en él. Y en esto sabemos que él permanece en nosotros, por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.

1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
14We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
World English Bible
1See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
2Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is.
3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
4Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
5You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and no sin is in him.
6Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.
7Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him, and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
10In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
11For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another—
12unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
17But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?
18My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
19And by this we know that we are of the truth and persuade our hearts before him,
20because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
22so whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
23This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
24He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
