1Miren cuánto nos ama el Padre que somos llamados hijos de Dios. ¡Y de veras lo somos! Como la mayoría de la gente no conoce a Dios, tampoco reconoce lo que somos.
2Sí, amados míos, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y no podemos ni siquiera imaginarnos lo que vamos a ser después. Pero de algo estamos ciertos: que cuando él venga seremos semejantes a él, porque lo veremos tal como es.
3El que espera esto se purifica, como Cristo es puro.
4El que comete pecados rompe la ley de Dios, porque el pecado es quebrantar la ley divina.
5Además, ustedes saben que Jesús se hizo hombre para quitar nuestros pecados y que él jamás cometió pecado.
6El que permanece cerca de él no practica el pecado; pero el que vive entregado al pecado nunca lo ha visto ni conocido.
7Hijitos, no se dejen engañar: el que practica la justicia es justo, como Jesús es justo.
8El que practica el pecado pertenece al diablo, porque el diablo comenzó a pecar desde el principio. Pero el Hijo de Dios vino a destruir las obras del diablo.
9El que ha nacido de Dios no practica el pecado, porque la vida de Dios está en él; no puede vivir entregado al pecado porque ha nacido de Dios.
10Uno puede saber quién es hijo de Dios y quién es hijo del diablo. El que no practica la justicia ni ama a su hermano demuestra que no es hijo de Dios.
11Desde el principio se nos ha enseñado que debemos amarnos unos a otros.
12No seamos como Caín, que era del maligno y mató a su hermano. ¿Por qué lo mató? Pues porque Caín hacía lo que es malo y su hermano lo que es justo.
13Así que, hermanos, no les extrañe que el mundo los aborrezca.
14Si amamos a los demás hermanos, hemos pasado de la muerte a la vida. El que no ama a los demás está muerto.
15El que aborrece a su hermano es un asesino; y ustedes saben que ningún asesino tiene vida eterna.
16Al morir por nosotros, Cristo nos demostró lo que es el amor. Nosotros también debemos dar la vida por nuestros hermanos.
17Pero si alguien está bien económicamente y no ayuda a su hermano que está en necesidad, ¿cómo puede haber amor de Dios en él?
18Hijitos míos, que nuestro amor no sea sólo de palabra ni de labios para afuera, sino que amemos de veras y demostrémoslo con hechos.
19Así sabremos a ciencia cierta que somos de la verdad y nos sentiremos seguros ante la presencia de Dios.
20Y aunque la conciencia nos acuse, Dios es más grande que nuestro corazón y él sabe todas las cosas.
21Pero, amados míos, si nuestro corazón no nos acusa, podemos estar confiados ante Dios,
22y cualquier cosa que le pidamos la recibiremos, porque obedecemos sus mandamientos y hacemos lo que le agrada.
23Su mandamiento es que creamos en Jesucristo su Hijo y que nos amemos unos a otros, como lo mandó.
24El que obedece a Dios vive con Dios y Dios vive en él. Y sabemos que Dios vive en nosotros por el Espíritu Santo que él nos dio.

1MIRAD cuál amor nos ha dado el Padre, que seamos llamados hijos de Dios: por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no le conoce á él.
2Muy amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aun no se ha manifestado lo que hemos de ser; pero sabemos que cuando él apareciere, seremos semejantes á él, porque le veremos como él es.
3Y cualquiera que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica, como él también es limpio.
4Cualquiera que hace pecado, traspasa también la ley; pues el pecado es transgresión de la ley.
5Y sabéis que él apareció para quitar nuestros pecados, y no hay pecado en él.
6Cualquiera que permanece en él, no peca; cualquiera que peca, no le ha visto, ni le ha conocido.
7Hijitos, no os engañe ninguno: el que hace justicia, es justo, como él también es justo.
8El que hace pecado, es del diablo; porque el diablo peca desde el principio. Para esto apareció el Hijo de Dios, para deshacer las obras del diablo.
9Cualquiera que es nacido de Dios, no hace pecado, porque su simiente está en él; y no puede pecar, porque es nacido de Dios.
10En esto son manifiestos los hijos de Dios, y los hijos del diablo: cualquiera que no hace justicia, y que no ama á su hermano, no es de Dios.
11Porque este es el mensaje que habéis oído desde el principio: Que nos amemos unos á otros.
12No como Caín, que era del maligno, y mató á su hermano. ¿Y por qué causa le mató? Porque sus obras eran malas, y las de su hermano justas.
13Hermanos míos, no os maravilléis si el mundo os aborrece.
14Nosotros sabemos que hemos pasado de muerte á vida, en que amamos á los hermanos. El que no ama á su hermano, está en muerte.
15Cualquiera que aborrece á su hermano, es homicida; y sabéis que ningún homicida tiene vida eterna permaneciente en sí.
16En esto hemos conocido el amor, porque él puso su vida por nosotros: también nosotros debemos poner nuestras vidas por los hermanos.
17Mas el que tuviere bienes de este mundo, y viere á su hermano tener necesidad, y le cerrare sus entrañas, ¿cómo está el amor de Dios en él?
18Hijitos míos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de obra y en verdad.
19Y en esto conocemos que somos de la verdad, y tenemos nuestros corazones certificados delante de él.
20Porque si nuestro corazón nos reprendiere, mayor es Dios que nuestro corazón, y conoce todas las cosas.
21Carísimos, si nuestro corazón no nos reprende, confianza tenemos en Dios;
22Y cualquier cosa que pidiéremos, la recibiremos de él, porque guardamos sus mandamientos, y hacemos las cosas que son agradables delante de él.
23Y éste es su mandamiento: Que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, y nos amemos unos á otros como nos lo ha mandado.
24Y el que guarda sus mandamientos, está en él, y él en él. Y en esto sabemos que él permanece en nosotros, por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.

1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
14We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
World English Bible
1See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
2Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is.
3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
4Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
5You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and no sin is in him.
6Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.
7Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him, and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
10In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
11For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another—
12unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
17But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?
18My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
19And by this we know that we are of the truth and persuade our hearts before him,
20because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
22so whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
23This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
24He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
