Alguns anos antes, quando Davi havia estado em Edom na companhia de Joabe para providenciar o enterro de alguns soldados de Israel, mortos na batalha, o exército israelita tinha matado quase todos os homens de Edom.

Porque cuando David estaba en Edom, y subió Joab el general del ejército á enterrar los muertos, y mató á todos los varones de Edom,
