No décimo oitavo ano do rei Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, Abias começou a reinar sobre Judá.

Ele trouxe para o templo de Yahweh as coisas que foram dedicadas a Yahweh, por seu pai, e as coisas que ele mesmo havia dedicado, objetos feitos de prata e ouro, e vasos.

Entonces tomando Asa toda la plata y oro que había quedado en los tesoros de la casa de Jehová, y los tesoros de la casa real, entrególos en las manos de sus siervos, y enviólos el rey Asa á Ben-adad, hijo de Tabrimón, hijo de Hezión, rey de Siria, el cual residía en Damasco, diciendo:

Alianza hay entre mí y ti, y entre mi padre y el tuyo: he aquí yo te envío un presente de plata y oro: ve, y rompe tu alianza con Baasa rey de Israel, para que me deje.

There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

“Let there be a treaty between me and you, like that between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent to you a present of silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.”

Ben-Hadade ouviu ao rei Asa e enviou comandantes de seus exércitos, e eles atacaram as cidades de Israel. Eles atacaram Ijom, Dã, Abel-Bete-Maaca e toda Quinerete, junto com todo o território de Naftali.

So Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-beth-maachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.

Quando Baasa ouviu isso, ele parou a construção de Ramá e voltou para Tirza.
