And it lasted many days, when the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Achab; and I will give rain upon the face of the earth.
And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
After many days, the LORD’s word came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab; and I will send rain on the earth.”
And Elijah went to show himself unto Achab; and the famine was grievous in Samaria.
And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.
Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria.
And Achab called Obadiah, who was the superintendent of the house; (now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly;
Y Achâb llamó á Abdías su mayordomo, el cual Abdías era en grande manera temeroso de Jehová;
And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:
Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly;
And it happened, when Izebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them fifty each in one cave, and provided them with bread and water;)
For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
for when Jezebel cut off the LORD’s prophets, Obadiah took one hundred prophets, and hid them fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
And Achab said unto Obadiah, Go through the land, unto all the springs of water, and unto all the brooks, peradventure we may find grass and keep alive horse and mule, that we lose not all the cattle.
And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go through the land, to all the springs of water, and to all the brooks. Perhaps we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, that we not lose all the animals.”
So they divided between them the land to pass through it: Achab went one way by himself alone, and Obadiah went another way by himself alone.
So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
And as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah came toward him; and he recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou here indeed, my Lord Elijah?
And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?
As Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him. He recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, “Is it you, my lord Elijah?”
And he said unto him, I am: go, say unto thy Lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
Y él respondió: Yo soy; ve, di á tu amo: He aquí Elías.
And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
He answered him, “It is I. Go, tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah is here!’”
And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldst deliver thy servant into the hand of Achab, to slay me?
And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?
He said, “How have I sinned, that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab, to kill me?
As the Lord thy God liveth, there is not a nation or kingdom whither my Lord hath not sent to seek thee; and when they said, He is not here: he caused that kingdom and nation to take an oath, that no one could find thee.
As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he took an oath of the kingdom and nation that they didn’t find you.
And now thou sayest, Go, say unto thy Lord, Behold, here is Elijah.
¿Y ahora tú dices: Ve, di á tu amo: Aquí está Elías?
And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
Now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah is here.”’
And it may come to pass, that, when I go from thee, the spirit of the Lord may carry thee whither I know not; and when I come to inform Achab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me; but I thy servant have feared the Lord from my youth.
And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.
It will happen, as soon as I leave you, that the LORD’s Spirit will carry you I don’t know where; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he can’t find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.
Hath it not been told unto my Lord what I did when Izebel slew the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, fifty each in one cave, and provided them with bread and water?
Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD’s prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
Wasn’t it told my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the LORD’s prophets, how I hid one hundred men of the LORD’s prophets with fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
And now thou sayest, Go say to thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he will slay me.
And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.
Now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah is here”.’ He will kill me.”
Then said Elijah, As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely today will I show myself unto him.
And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.
Elijah said, “As the LORD of Armies lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today.”
So Ohadiah went to meet Achab, and he told it to him; and Achab went to meet Elijah.
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
And it came to pass, when Achab saw Elijah, that Achab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?”
And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy fathers house, through your forsaking the commandments of the Lord, and because thou hast followed the Bealim.
And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.
He answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the LORD’s commandments and you have followed the Baals.
And now send, assemble unto me all Israel at Mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the grove four hundred, who eat at the table of Izebel.
Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.
Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and four hundred fifty of the prophets of Baal, and four hundred of the prophets of the Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
And Achab sent round among all the children of Israel, and he assembled the prophets at Mount Carmel.
So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to Mount Carmel.
And Elijah approached unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between the two opinions? if the Lord be the God, follow him; and if Baalfollow him. And the people answered him not a word.
And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
Elijah came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you waver between the two sides? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” The people didn’t say a word.
And Elijah said unto the people, I have been left a prophet of the Lord by myself alone; but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.
Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left as a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred fifty men.
Therefore let there be given unto us two bullocks; and let them choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire to it: and I will prepare the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire to it.
Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
Let them therefore give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under; and I will dress the other bull, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under it.
And do ye call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and it shall be that the God who answereth by fire, he shall be the true God. And all the people answered and said, The proposal is good.
And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
You call on the name of your god, and I will call on the LORD’s name. The God who answers by fire, let him be God.” All the people answered, “What you say is good.”
And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you for yourselves the one bullock, and prepare it first; for ye are the many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire to it.
And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one bull for yourselves, and dress it first, for you are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it.”
And they took the bullock which he had given to them, and they prepared it; and they called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us; but there was no voice, nor any answer: and they danced about the altar which had been made.
And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
They took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, “Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice, and nobody answered. They leaped about the altar which was made.
And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked at them, and said, Call with a loud voice; for he is a god; either he is holding council, or he is busy in some pursuit, or he is on a journey; or peradventure he sleepeth, and may thus awaken.
And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
At noon, Elijah mocked them, and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is deep in thought, or he has gone somewhere, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened.”
And they called with a loud voice and cut themselves after their custom with knives and spears, till the blood gushed out over them.
And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.
They cried aloud, and cut themselves in their way with knives and lances until the blood gushed out on them.
And it came to pass, when midday was past, that they practised their follies until near the time of the offering of the eveningsacrifice; but there was neither voice, nor any answer, nor any perceptible sound.
Y como pasó el medio día, y ellos profetizaran hasta el tiempo del sacrificio del presente, y no había voz, ni quien respondiese ni escuchase;
And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
When midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the evening offering; but there was no voice, no answer, and nobody paid attention.
And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me: and all the people came near unto him; and he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down.

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the Lord was come, saying, Israel shall be thy name.
Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había sido palabra de Jehová, diciendo, Israel será tu nombre;
And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the LORD’s word came, saying, “Israel shall be your name.”
And he built of the stones an altar in the name of the Lord; and he made a trench as great as would contain two seahs of seed round about the altar.
And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
With the stones he built an altar in the LORD’s name. He made a trench around the altar large enough to contain two seahs of seed.
And he put in order the wood, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid them on the wood,
And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
He put the wood in order, and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. He said, “Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.”
And he said. Fill four jars with water; and they had to pour it on the burntoffering, and on the wood: and he said, Do it the second time: and they did it the second time: and he said, Do it the third time; and they did it the third time.
And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
He said, “Do it a second time;” and they did it the second time. He said, “Do it a third time;” and they did it the third time.

And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
The water ran around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water.
And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the eveningsacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, O Lord, God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, this day let it be known that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that at thy word I have done all these things.
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
At the time of the evening offering, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “LORD, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.
Answer me, O Lord, answer me, and let all this people know that thou, O Lord, art the true God, and thou wilt then have turned their heart back again.
Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
Hear me, LORD, hear me, that this people may know that you, LORD, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.”
And there fell a fire of the Lord, and consumed the burntoffering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust; and the water also that was in the trench did it lick up.
Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
Then the LORD’s fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust; and it licked up the water that was in the trench.
And when all the people saw this, they fell on their faces; and they said, the Lordhe is the God; the Lordhe is the God.
And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. They said, “The LORD, he is God! The LORD, he is God!”
And Elijah said unto them, Seize the prophets of Baal; not one of them must escape; and they seized them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slaughtered them there.
And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
Elijah said to Ahab, “Get up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”
So Achab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down toward the earth, and put his face between his knees;
So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
He said to his servant, “Go up now and look toward the sea.” He went up and looked, then said, “There is nothing.” He said, “Go again” seven times.
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there is a little cloud like a mans hand arising out of the sea. And he said, Go up, say unto Achab, Harness up thy chariot, and come down, that the rain may not detain thee.
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
On the seventh time, he said, “Behold, a small cloud, like a man’s hand, is rising out of the sea.” He said, “Go up, tell Ahab, ‘Get ready and go down, so that the rain doesn’t stop you.’”
And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heavens were blackened with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Achab rode, and went to Yizreel.
