Después Benadad, rey de Siria, reunido todo su ejército, toda su caballería y carros armados, y teniendo consigo treinta y dos reyes, o pequeños príncipes, salió a campaña contra Samaria, y le puso sitio.
ENTONCES Ben-adad rey de Siria juntó á todo su ejército, y con él treinta y dos reyes, con caballos y carros: y subió, y puso cerco á Samaria, y combatióla.

Y envió mensajeros a la ciudad, que dijesen a Acab, rey de Israel:

Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

A lo que contestó el rey de Israel: Tuyo soy, mi rey y Señor, como tú dices, y tuyas son todas mis cosas.
Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Como tú dices, rey señor mío, yo soy tuyo, y todo lo que tengo.
And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

Volviendo de nuevo los mensajeros dijeron: Esto dice Benadad, que nos vuelve a enviar a ti: Me has de dar tu plata y tu oro, y tus mujeres, y tus hijos.
Y volviendo los mensajeros otra vez, dijeron: Así dijo Ben-adad: Yo te envié á decir: Tu plata y tu oro, y tus mujeres y tus hijos me darás.
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben-hadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

Mañana, pues, a esta misma hora enviaré a ti mis siervos, los cuales registrarán tu palacio y las casas de sus criados o cortesanos, y tomarán con sus propias manos cuanto les agradare, y se lo llevarán.
Además mañana á estas horas enviaré yo á ti mis siervos, los cuales escudriñarán tu casa, y las casas de tus siervos; y tomarán con sus manos, y llevarán todo lo precioso que tuvieres.
Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

Entonces el rey de Israel convocó a todos los ancianos de su pueblo, y dijo: Advertid y notad cómo nos está armando asechanzas; puesto que nos envió a pedirme mis mujeres y mis hijos, y el oro y la plata, y no le he dicho que no.
Entonces el rey de Israel llamó á todos los ancianos de la tierra, y díjoles: Entended, y ved ahora cómo éste no busca sino mal: pues que ha enviado á mí por mis mujeres y mis hijos, y por mi plata y por mi oro; y yo no se lo he negado.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

Le respondieron todos los ancianos y el pueblo todo: No le des oídos, ni condesciendas con él.

And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.

Y así contestó a los enviados de Benadad: Decid a mi señor el rey: Todo cuanto me pediste al principio a mí, siervo tuyo, lo haré; mas esto que ahora pides no puedo hacerlo.
Entonces él respondió á los embajadores de Ben-adad: Decid al rey mi señor: Haré todo lo que mandaste á tu siervo al principio; mas esto no lo puedo hacer. Y los embajadores fueron, y diéronle la respuesta.
Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do, but this thing I cannot do.’” The messengers departed and brought him back the message.
Volviéndose los mensajeros, llevaron a Benadad esta respuesta; el cual los despachó nuevamente, diciendo por medio de ellos a Acab: Háganme los dioses no bien, sino mucho mal, si todo el polvo o tierra de Samaria ha de ser bastante para que repartido entre mis soldados le quepa a cada uno un puñado.
Y Ben-adad tornó á enviarle á decir: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, que el polvo de Samaria no bastará á los puños de todo el pueblo que me sigue.
And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

Mas el rey de Israel les respondió: Decidle a vuestro amo que no cante la victoria antes de la batalla.

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

Cuando recibió Benadad esta respuesta estaba bebiendo con los reyes en sus pabellones, y dijo a sus tropas: Cercad la ciudad. Y la cercaron.
Y como él oyó esta palabra, estando bebiendo con los reyes en las tiendas, dijo á sus siervos: Poned. Y ellos pusieron contra la ciudad.
And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

Cuando he aquí que un profeta presentándose a Acab, rey de Israel, le dijo: Esto dice el Señor: ¿Has visto bien toda esta multitud innumerable? Pues mira, hoy la pondré yo en tus manos, para que sepas que yo soy el Señor.
Y he aquí un profeta se llegó á Achâb rey de Israel, y le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿Has visto esta grande multitud? he aquí yo te la entregaré hoy en tu mano, para que conozcas que yo soy Jehová.
And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “The LORD says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
Respondió Acab: ¿Por medio de quién? Y le dijo el profeta: Por medio, dice el Señor, de los mozos de a pie de los príncipes de las provincias. ¿Y quién, replicó Acab, comenzará la batalla? Tú, respondió el profeta.
Y respondió Achâb: ¿Por mano de quién? Y él dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Por mano de los criados de los príncipes de las provincias. Y dijo Achâb: ¿Quién comenzará la batalla? Y él respondió: Tú.

Contó, pues, Acab los mozos de a pie de los príncipes y halló ser doscientos treinta y dos; pasó después revista del pueblo, y halló aptos para pelear siete mil entre todos los hijos de Israel.
Entonces él reconoció los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, los cuales fueron doscientos treinta y dos. Luego reconoció todo el pueblo, todos los hijos de Israel, que fueron siete mil.

Y a eso del mediodía hicieron una salida. Mas Benadad estaba bebiendo en su tienda, ya embriagado, y con él los treinta y dos reyes o señores que habían venido a su socorro.

Salieron, pues los mozos de los príncipes de las provincias al frente de la tropa. Envió Benadad batidores, los cuales volvieron diciendo: Son unos hombres que han salido de Samaria.

And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

Avanzaron, pues, los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, seguidos del resto del ejército;

E hirió cada uno al que venía contra sí: y huyeron los Siros, siguiéndolos los de Israel. Y el rey de Siria, Ben-adad, se escapó en un caballo con alguna gente de caballería.
And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

Y saliendo asimismo el rey de Israel, derrotó caballos y carros, haciendo un gran estrago en los siros.

Entonces acercándose un profeta al rey de Israel, le dijo: Anda y esfuérzate, y reflexiona y mira lo que has de hacer; porque el año que viene volverá contra ti el rey de Siria.
Llegándose luego el profeta al rey de Israel, le dijo: Ve, fortalécete, y considera y mira lo que has de hacer; porque pasado el año, el rey de Siria ha de venir contra ti.
And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

En efecto, los criados o cortesanos del rey de Siria le dijeron: Los dioses de los montes son sus dioses; por eso nos han vencido; así es mejor que peleemos contra ellos en los llanos, y los venceremos.
Y los siervos del rey de Siria le dijeron: Sus dioses son dioses de los montes, por eso nos han vencido; mas si peleáremos con ellos en la llanura, se verá si no los vencemos.
And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

Tú, toma estas disposiciones: separa de tu ejército a todos esos reyes, y pon en su lugar los primeros y más valientes capitanes.

Se pasó también revista de los hijos de Israel, los cuales prevenidos de víveres marcharon al encuentro de sus enemigos, y acamparon enfrente de ellos, a manera de dos pequeños hatos de cabras; al paso que los siros inundaron todo el país.
Y los hijos de Israel fueron también inspeccionados, y tomando provisiones fuéronles al encuentro; y asentaron campo lo hijos de Israel delante de ellos, como dos rebañuelos de cabras; y los Siros henchían la tierra.

Entonces un varón de Dios vino a encontrar al rey de Israel, y le dijo: Esto dice el Señor: Por cuanto han dicho los siros: El Señor es Dios de los montes y no es Dios de los valles, por lo mismo yo entregaré en tu mano toda esa gran muchedumbre; con lo que acabaréis de conocer que yo soy el Señor.

Entretanto los dos ejércitos por espacio de siete días estuvieron formados en batalla uno enfrente de otro, y al séptimo día se dio la acción: en la cual los hijos de Israel mataron de los siros en un día cien mil hombres de infantería.
Siete días tuvieron asentado campo los unos delante de los otros, y al séptimo día se dió la batalla: y mataron los hijos de Israel de los Siros en un día cien mil hombres de á pie.
And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

Los que pudieron salvarse, huyeron a la ciudad de Afec, y cayó el muro sobre veintisiete mil hombres que habían quedado. Huyendo también Benadad, entró en la ciudad; y se escondió en lo más retirado de su palacio.

Y le dijeron sus criados: Nosotros hemos oído decir que los reyes de la casa de Israel son clementes y piadosos; vistámonos, pues, de sacos con sogas al cuello, y presentémonos así al rey de Israel; que tal vez nos salvará las vidas.
Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: He aquí, hemos oído de los reyes de la casa de Israel que son reyes clementes: pongamos pues ahora sacos en nuestros lomos, y sogas en nuestras cabezas, y salgamos al rey de Israel: por ventura te salvará la vida.
And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.
His servants said to him, “See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life.”
Se vistieron, pues, los sacos, ciñéndoselos en la cintura, y se pusieron las sogas al cuello, y se presentaron al rey de Israel diciéndole: Benadad, tu siervo, dice: Sálvame, te ruego, la vida. A lo que respondió el rey: Si vive todavía, él es mi hermano.
Ciñeron pues sus lomos de sacos, y sogas á sus cabezas, y vinieron al rey de Israel, y dijéronle: Tu siervo Ben-adad dice: Ruégote que viva mi alma. Y él respondió: Si él vive aún, mi hermano es.
So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
Lo cual tuvieron ellos por feliz presagio; y al instante le tomaron la palabra de la boca, y dijeron: Sí, Benadad, tu hermano, aún vive. Y él les dijo: Id y traédmelo acá. Se le presentó luego Benadad, y Acab le hizo subir en su carroza.
Esto tomaron aquellos hombres por buen agüero, y presto tomaron esta palabra de su boca, y dijeron: ¡Tu hermano Ben-adad! Y él dijo: Id, y traedle. Ben-adad entonces se presentó á Achâb, y él le hizo subir en un carro.
Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
Now the men observed diligently and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
Le dijo Benadad: Las ciudades que mi padre quitó al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y tú te harás plazas y calles en Damasco mi capital, como las hizo mi padre en Samaria, y hecho este convenio contigo, me marcharé. Hizo, pues, Acab alianza con él, y lo dejó ir libre.
Y díjole Ben-adad: Las ciudades que mi padre tomó al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y haz plazas en Damasco para ti, como mi padre las hizo en Samaria. Y yo, dijo Achâb, te dejaré partir con esta alianza. Hizo pues con él alianza, y dejóle ir.
And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
Ben Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” “I”, said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him and let him go.
Entonces uno de los hijos o discípulos de los profetas dijo de parte del Señor a un compañero suyo: Hiéreme. Mas el otro no quiso herirle.
Entonces un varón de los hijos de los profetas dijo á su compañero por palabra de Dios: Hiéreme ahora. Mas el otro varón no quiso herirle.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

Y él le dijo: Por cuanto no has querido obedecer la voz del Señor, lo mismo será apartarte de mí que te matará un león. En efecto, a pocos pasos distante de él, lo encontró un león y lo mató.

Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
Then he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed the LORD’s voice, behold, as soon as you have departed from me, a lion will kill you.” As soon as he had departed from him, a lion found him and killed him.
Habiendo después hallado a otro hombre, le dijo: Hiéreme: y éste le hirió e hizo una llaga.
Encontróse luego con otro hombre, y díjole: Hiéreme ahora. Y el hombre le dió un golpe, é hízole una herida.
Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.
Then he found another man, and said, “Please strike me.” The man struck him and wounded him.
Se fue así el profeta, y salió al encuentro del rey en el camino, habiendo desfigurado su fisonomía, llenándose de polvo la cara y los ojos.

Y así que hubo pasado el rey dio voces tras él, diciendo: Había avanzado tu siervo para batir más de cerca al enemigo; y como hubiese huido un hombre de los prisioneros, otro me lo trajo, y me dijo: Guarda a ese hombre; que si lo dejas escapar, tu vida responderá por la suya, o me pagarás un talento de plata.
Y como el rey pasaba, él dió voces al rey, y dijo: Tu siervo salió entre la tropa: y he aquí apartándose uno, trájome un hombre, diciendo: Guarda á este hombre, y si llegare á faltar, tu vida será por la suya, ó pagarás un talento de plata.
And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
As the king passed by, he cried to the king, and he said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’
Mas como yo agitado o turbado me volviese a un lado y a otro, el hombre desapareció de repente. Le respondió el rey de Israel: Tú mismo te has pronunciado la sentencia.
Y como tu siervo estaba ocupado á una parte y á otra, él desapareció. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo: Esa será tu sentencia: tú la has pronunciado.
And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.
As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.” The king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be. You yourself have decided it.”
Entonces él se limpió de repente el polvo de la cara, y conoció el rey de Israel ser uno de los profetas.
Pero él se quitó de presto el velo de sobre sus ojos, y el rey de Israel conoció que era de los profetas.
And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was one of the prophets.
El cual dijo al rey: Esto dice el Señor: Por cuanto has dejado escapar de tus manos un hombre digno de muerte, tu vida pagará por la suya, y tu pueblo por el pueblo suyo.
Y él le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Por cuanto soltaste de la mano el hombre de mi anatema, tu vida será por la suya, y tu pueblo por el suyo.
And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
He said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”
Mas el rey de Israel se volvió a su casa, no haciendo caso de lo que le decía el profeta, y entró lleno de furor en Samaria.
Y el rey de Israel se fué á su casa triste y enojado, y llegó á Samaria.
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
