Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.
‘Your silver and your gold are mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’”
“Es como dices, mi señor el rey”, respondió el rey de Israel. “Soy tuyo, así como todo lo que me pertenece”.

And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

Los mensajeros regresaron y dijeron: “Esto es lo que dice Ben Adad: te he enviado un mensaje exigiendo que me des tu plata, tu oro, tus esposas y tus hijos.

And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben-hadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

El rey de Israel llamó a todos los ancianos del país y les dijo: “¡Miren cómo este hombre trata de causar problemas! Cuando exigió mis esposas y mis hijos, mi plata y mi oro, no dije que no”.
Entonces el rey de Israel llamó á todos los ancianos de la tierra, y díjoles: Entended, y ved ahora cómo éste no busca sino mal: pues que ha enviado á mí por mis mujeres y mis hijos, y por mi plata y por mi oro; y yo no se lo he negado.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do, but this thing I cannot do.’” The messengers departed and brought him back the message.
Ben Adad le respondió: “¡Que los dioses me hagan tanto y más si queda suficiente polvo en Samaria para dar a mis súbditos un puñado a cada uno!”
Y Ben-adad tornó á enviarle á decir: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, que el polvo de Samaria no bastará á los puños de todo el pueblo que me sigue.
And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

El rey de Israel le respondió: “Dile esto: Un hombre que se pone la armadura no debe presumir como quien se la quita”.

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

Ben Adad recibió este mensaje mientras él y los reyes estaban bebiendo en sus tiendas. Inmediatamente dio la orden a sus oficiales: “¡Prepárense para atacar!”. Así que se prepararon para atacar la ciudad.

And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

Al mismo tiempo, un profeta se acercó a Acab, rey de Israel, y le dijo: “Esto es lo que dice el Señor: ¿Ves este enorme ejército? Sólo mira, porque hoy te haré victorioso, y te convencerás que yo soy el Señor”.
Y he aquí un profeta se llegó á Achâb rey de Israel, y le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿Has visto esta grande multitud? he aquí yo te la entregaré hoy en tu mano, para que conozcas que yo soy Jehová.
And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “The LORD says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
“Pero ¿quién va a hacer esto?” preguntó Acab. El profeta respondió: “Esto es lo que dice el Señor: serán los oficiales jóvenes bajo los comandantes de distrito”. “¿Y quién va a iniciar la batalla?” , preguntó. El profeta respondió: “¡Tú!”.

Así que Acab convocó a los 232 oficiales jóvenes de los comandantes de distrito y reunió a los 7.000 soldados que formaban el ejército de Israel.

And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

Más tarde el profeta se presentó ante el rey de Israel y le dijo: “Ve a reforzar tus defensas y revisa lo que debes hacer, porque en la primavera el rey de Harán vendrá a atacarte de nuevo”.
Llegándose luego el profeta al rey de Israel, le dijo: Ve, fortalécete, y considera y mira lo que has de hacer; porque pasado el año, el rey de Siria ha de venir contra ti.
And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

Debes hacer lo siguiente: destituir a cada uno de los reyes de sus cargos y sustituirlos por comandantes.

Los ejércitos acamparon uno frente al otro durante siete días. Al séptimo día tuvo lugar la batalla. Los israelitas mataron a 100.000 de la infantería aramea en un solo día.

And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: He aquí, hemos oído de los reyes de la casa de Israel que son reyes clementes: pongamos pues ahora sacos en nuestros lomos, y sogas en nuestras cabezas, y salgamos al rey de Israel: por ventura te salvará la vida.
And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.
His servants said to him, “See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life.”
Así que, llevando cilicio en la cintura y cuerdas en la cabeza, fueron y se rindieron al rey de Israel, y le dijeron: “Tu siervo Ben Adad te pide: ‘Por favor, déjame vivir’”. El rey respondió: “¿Sigue vivo? Lo considero mi hermano”.
Ciñeron pues sus lomos de sacos, y sogas á sus cabezas, y vinieron al rey de Israel, y dijéronle: Tu siervo Ben-adad dice: Ruégote que viva mi alma. Y él respondió: Si él vive aún, mi hermano es.
So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
Los hombres pensaron que esto era una buena señal e inmediatamente le tomaron la palabra al rey, diciendo: “Sí, Ben-Adad es tu hermano”. “¡Vayan a buscarlo!”, dijo el rey. Así que Ben-hadad salió de su escondite y se entregó a Acab, quien lo subió a su carro.
Esto tomaron aquellos hombres por buen agüero, y presto tomaron esta palabra de su boca, y dijeron: ¡Tu hermano Ben-adad! Y él dijo: Id, y traedle. Ben-adad entonces se presentó á Achâb, y él le hizo subir en un carro.
Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
Now the men observed diligently and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
Ben-hadad le dijo: “Te devolveré las ciudades que mi padre tomó de tu padre, y podrás organizar tus propios lugares de comercio en Damasco, como hizo mi padre en Samaria”. “Al hacer este pacto te libero”, respondió Acab. Hizo un tratado con Ben Adad y lo dejó ir.
Y díjole Ben-adad: Las ciudades que mi padre tomó al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y haz plazas en Damasco para ti, como mi padre las hizo en Samaria. Y yo, dijo Achâb, te dejaré partir con esta alianza. Hizo pues con él alianza, y dejóle ir.
And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
Ben Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” “I”, said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him and let him go.
A raíz de un mensaje que recibió del Señor, uno de los hijos de los profetas le dijo a su colega: “Por favor, pégame”. Pero el hombre se negó a pegarle.
Entonces un varón de los hijos de los profetas dijo á su compañero por palabra de Dios: Hiéreme ahora. Mas el otro varón no quiso herirle.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

Entonces el profeta le dijo: “Como no has hecho lo que dijo el Señor, en cuanto me dejes un león te va a matar”. Cuando el hombre se fue, vino un león y lo mató.
Y él le dijo: Por cuanto no has obedecido á la palabra de Jehová, he aquí en apartándote de mí, te herirá un león. Y como se apartó de él, topóle un león, é hirióle.
Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
Then he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed the LORD’s voice, behold, as soon as you have departed from me, a lion will kill you.” As soon as he had departed from him, a lion found him and killed him.
El profeta encontró a otro hombre y le dijo: “Por favor, pégame”. Entonces el hombre lo golpeó, hiriéndolo.
Encontróse luego con otro hombre, y díjole: Hiéreme ahora. Y el hombre le dió un golpe, é hízole una herida.
Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.
Then he found another man, and said, “Please strike me.” The man struck him and wounded him.
Entonces el profeta fue y se quedó junto al camino, esperando al rey. Se había disfrazado con una venda sobre los ojos.

Y como el rey pasaba, él dió voces al rey, y dijo: Tu siervo salió entre la tropa: y he aquí apartándose uno, trájome un hombre, diciendo: Guarda á este hombre, y si llegare á faltar, tu vida será por la suya, ó pagarás un talento de plata.
And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
As the king passed by, he cried to the king, and he said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’
Pero mientras tu siervo estaba ocupado en otras cosas, el hombre se escapó”. “Así que ese será tu castigo”, le dijo el rey de Israel. “Tú mismo te has condenado”.
Y como tu siervo estaba ocupado á una parte y á otra, él desapareció. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo: Esa será tu sentencia: tú la has pronunciado.
And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.
As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.” The king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be. You yourself have decided it.”
Entonces el profeta se quitó rápidamente la venda de los ojos, y el rey de Israel reconoció que era uno de los profetas.
Pero él se quitó de presto el velo de sobre sus ojos, y el rey de Israel conoció que era de los profetas.
And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was one of the prophets.
Le dijo al rey: “Esto es lo que dice el Señor: Has dejado ir a un hombre que yo había decidido que muriera. Por lo tanto, pagarás su vida con tu vida, tu pueblo por su pueblo”.
Y él le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Por cuanto soltaste de la mano el hombre de mi anatema, tu vida será por la suya, y tu pueblo por el suyo.
And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
He said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”
El rey de Israel regresó a su casa en Samaria, enfadado y furioso.
