Um dia o rei falou com ele, mostrando interesse em comprar aquela propriedade. “Desejo a sua vinha para formar uma horta”, explicou o rei, “já que fica ao lado do palácio. Em troca eu lhe darei uma vinha melhor ou, se for do seu agrado, eu lhe pagarei um preço justo por ela”.
Y Achâb habló á Naboth, diciendo: Dame tu viña para un huerto de legumbres, porque está cercana, junto á mi casa, y yo te daré por ella otra viña mejor que esta; ó si mejor te pareciere, te pagaré su valor en dinero.
And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

Nabote, porém, respondeu: “O Senhor me proíbe de dar essa terra que é herança dos meus pais”.

Então Acabe voltou ao palácio aborrecido e com muita raiva, porque Nabote, de Jezreel, lhe havia dito: “Não darei a herança dos meus pais”. Ele não quis saber de comer; foi deitar-se e virou o rosto para a parede!
Y vínose Achâb á su casa triste y enojado, por la palabra que Naboth de Jezreel le había respondido, diciendo: No te daré la heredad de mis padres. Y acostóse en su cama, y volvió su rostro, y no comió pan.
And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

Então ela escreveu algumas cartas em nome de Acabe, selou as cartas com o selo real, e mandou às autoridades de Jezreel, onde Nabote morava.

“Vá até Samaria para se encontrar com o rei Acabe. Ele está na plantação de uvas de Nabote, a fim de tomar posse dela.
Levántate, desciende á encontrarte con Achâb rey de Israel, que está en Samaria: he aquí él está en la viña de Naboth, á la cual ha descendido para tomar posesión de ella.
Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

Diga a ele: ‘Assim diz o Senhor: Já não basta o mal em matar Nabote? Era preciso que você se apossasse de sua propriedade?’ E acrescente: ‘Assim diz o Senhor: Por causa disto, os cães vão lamber o seu sangue fora da cidade, da mesma maneira como lamberam o sangue de Nabote!’ ”

“Então o meu inimigo me encontrou!”, exclamou Acabe ao ver Elias. “Sim”, respondeu Elias, “por que você se vendeu para fazer o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor?

And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

Por isso, ele diz: ‘Eu vou fazer com que a desgraça caia sobre você e vou acabar com você. E não vou permitir que sobreviva nenhum dos seus descendentes do sexo masculino, tanto escravo como livre!
He aquí yo traigo mal sobre ti, y barreré tu posteridad, y talaré de Achâb todo meante á la pared, al guardado y al desamparado en Israel:
Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
Vou fazer com a sua família o mesmo que fiz com a família do rei Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, e com a família do rei Baasa, filho de Aías, porque você provocou a ira de Deus e levou todo o Israel a pecar’.

“E a respeito de Jezabel o Senhor diz: ‘Os cães vão devorar o corpo de sua esposa Jezabel, junto aos muros de Jezreel’.

Nenhuma outra pessoa se vendeu tão completamente como Acabe, pois sua esposa Jezabel conseguiu que ele fizesse toda espécie de mal que o Senhor reprova.
(A la verdad ninguno fué como Achâb, que se vendiese á hacer lo malo á los ojos de Jehová; porque Jezabel su mujer lo incitaba.
But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

Quando Acabe ouviu essas profecias, rasgou as roupas, usou roupa feita de pano de saco, jejuou, passou a dormir em cima de panos de saco e a andar de cabeça baixa.
