Durante tres años no hubo guerra entre Siria e Israel.

Pero en el tercer año, mientras el rey Josafat, de Judá, visitaba al rey Acab, de Israel,

And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

Acab le dijo a sus oficiales: «¿Se dan cuenta ustedes de que los sirios están aún ocupando nuestra ciudad de Ramot de Galaad? Y nosotros estamos aquí sentados sin hacer nada al respecto».

Y el rey de Israel dijo á sus siervos: ¿No sabéis que es nuestra Ramoth de Galaad? y nosotros callamos en orden á tomarla de mano del rey de Siria.

And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we do nothing, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”

Entonces se dirigió a Josafat, y le preguntó: ―¿Pelearemos juntos para recobrar la ciudad de Ramot de Galaad? El rey Josafat de Judá le respondió: ―Desde luego. Tú y yo somos hermanos; mi pueblo está a tus órdenes, y mis caballos están a tu servicio.

Y dijo á Josaphat: ¿Quieres venir conmigo á pelear contra Ramoth de Galaad? Y Josaphat respondió al rey de Israel: Como yo, así tú; y como mi pueblo, así tu pueblo; y como mis caballos, tus caballos.

And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

Pero —añadió—, debemos consultar al Señor primero, para estar seguros si esto es lo que él quiere que hagamos.

Y dijo luego Josaphat al rey de Israel: Yo te ruego que consultes hoy la palabra de Jehová.

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the LORD’s word.”

Entonces el rey Acab convocó a sus cuatrocientos profetas paganos y les preguntó: ―¿Atacaremos a Ramot de Galaad? Y ellos respondieron: ―Sí, vayan, porque el Señor les ayudará a conquistarla.

Entonces el rey de Israel juntó los profetas, como cuatrocientos hombres, á los cuales dijo: ¿Iré á la guerra contra Ramoth de Galaad, ó la dejaré? Y ellos dijeron: Sube; porque el Señor la entregará en mano del rey.

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

Pero Josafat preguntó: ―¿No hay por aquí un profeta del Señor? Me gustaría consultarlo.

Y dijo Josaphat: ¿Hay aún aquí algún profeta de Jehová, por el cual consultemos?

And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?

But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of him?”

Sí, aquí hay uno —dijo el rey Acab—, pero yo lo odio, porque jamás me profetiza algo bueno, sino todo lo malo. Su nombre es Micaías hijo de Imlá. ―¡Vamos! —respondió Josafat—. No digas tal cosa.

Y el rey de Israel respondió á Josaphat: Aun hay un varón por el cual podríamos consultar á Jehová, Michêas, hijo de Imla: mas yo le aborrezco, porque nunca me profetiza bien, sino solamente mal. Y Josaphat dijo: No hable el rey así.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

Entonces el rey Acab llamó a uno de sus sirvientes y le dijo: ―Ve a buscar a Micaías. ¡Date prisa!

Entonces el rey de Israel llamó á un eunuco, y díjole: trae presto á Michêas hijo de Imla.

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the son of Imlah.

Entretanto, todos los profetas seguían dando sus profecías delante de los dos reyes, que estaban con sus vestiduras reales, sentados en los tronos colocados en la era junto a la puerta de la ciudad.

Y el rey de Israel y Josaphat rey de Judá estaban sentados cada uno en su silla, vestidos de sus ropas reales, en la plaza junto á la entrada de la puerta de Samaria; y todos los profetas profetizaban delante de ellos.

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

Sedequías hijo de Quenaná, que era uno de los falsos profetas, hizo unos cuernos de hierro y declaró: ―El Señor promete que con estos cuernos cornearás a los sirios hasta destruirlos.

Y Sedechîas hijo de Chânaana se había hecho unos cuernos de hierro, y dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Con éstos acornearás á los Siros hasta acabarlos.

And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.

Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said, “The LORD says, ‘With these you will push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”

Y los otros estaban de acuerdo. ―Ve y ataca Ramot de Galaad —le dijeron—, porque el Señor te dará la victoria.

Y todos los profetas profetizaban de la misma manera, diciendo: Sube á Ramoth de Galaad, y serás prosperado; que Jehová la dará en mano del rey.

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the king’s hand.

El mensajero que fue enviado a buscar a Micaías le dijo: ―Mira, todos los profetas han anunciado que el rey saldrá bien librado en esta batalla. Así que debes concordar con lo que ellos están diciendo.

Y el mensajero que había ido á llamar á Michêas, hablóle, diciendo: He aquí las palabras de los profetas á una boca anuncian al rey bien: sea ahora tu palabra conforme á la palabra de alguno de ellos, y anuncia bien.

And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.

The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”

Pero Micaías le respondió: ―Puedes tener la plena seguridad de que sólo hablaré lo que el Señor me diga que hable. Esto es tan cierto como que el Señor vive.

Y Michêas respondió: Vive Jehová, que lo que Jehová me hablare, eso diré.

And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.

Micaiah said, “As the LORD lives, what the LORD says to me, that I will speak.”

Cuando llegaron, el rey le preguntó a Micaías: ―Micaías, ¿subiremos a atacar a Ramot de Galaad, o no? ―¡Sí, por supuesto! ¡Sigan adelante! —le dijo Micaías—. Tendrás una gran victoria, porque el Señor te hará vencedor.

Vino pues al rey, y el rey le dijo: Michêas, ¿iremos á pelear contra Ramoth de Galaad, ó la dejaremos? Y él le respondió: Sube, que serás prosperado, y Jehová la entregará en mano del rey.

So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

―¿Cuántas veces debo decirte que me digas solamente lo que el Señor te ha dicho? —le exigió el rey.

Y el rey le dijo: ¿Hasta cuántas veces he de conjurarte que no me digas sino la verdad en el nombre de Jehová?

And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?

The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the LORD’s name?”

Entonces Micaías le dijo: ―Vi a Israel esparcido por las montañas, como ovejas sin pastor. Y el Señor dijo: “El rey de ellos está muerto, así que no tienen quién los gobierne. Pídeles que se vayan a sus casas en paz”.

Entonces él dijo: Yo ví á todo Israel esparcido por los montes, como ovejas que no tienen pastor: y Jehová dijo: Estos no tienen señor; vuélvase cada uno á su casa en paz.

And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. The LORD said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’”

Volviéndose a Josafat, Acab se quejó: ―¿No te dije lo que ocurriría? Él jamás me da buenas noticias. Siempre me anuncia el mal.

Y el rey de Israel dijo á Josaphat: ¿No te lo había yo dicho? Ninguna cosa buena profetizará él acerca de mí, sino solamente mal.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

Micaías respondió: ―Escucha esta otra palabra del Señor: Vi al Señor sentado en su trono, y los ejércitos del cielo que estaban alrededor de él.

Entonces él dijo: Oye pues palabra de Jehová: Yo vi á Jehová sentado en su trono, y todo el ejército de los cielos estaba junto á él, á su diestra y á su siniestra.

And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the LORD’s word. I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

Entonces el Señor preguntó: “¿Quién irá a inducir a Acab para que vaya y muera en Ramot de Galaad?”. Varias sugerencias se hicieron, hasta que un ángel se acercó al Señor y le dijo: “Yo lo seduciré”.

Y Jehová dijo: ¿Quién inducirá á Achâb, para que suba y caiga en Ramoth de Galaad? Y uno decía de una manera; y otro decía de otra.

And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

The LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing, and another said another.

Y salió un espíritu, y púsose delante de Jehová, y dijo: Yo le induciré. Y Jehová le dijo: ¿De qué manera?

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

A spirit came out and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will entice him.’

“¿Cómo lo harás?”, le preguntó el Señor, y él respondió: “Yo iré como un espíritu mentiroso y hablaré por boca de sus profetas”. Y el Señor dijo: “Eso está bien; ve, porque tú lo lograrás”.

Y él dijo: Yo saldré, y seré espíritu de mentira en boca de todos sus profetas. Y él dijo: Inducirlo has, y aun saldrás con ello; sal pues, y hazlo así.

And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

The LORD said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’

¿No ves? El Señor ha puesto un espíritu mentiroso en la boca de estos profetas, pero el hecho es que el Señor ha decretado el desastre para ti.

Y ahora, he aquí Jehová ha puesto espíritu de mentira en la boca de todos estos tus profetas, y Jehová ha decretado el mal acerca de ti.

Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.”

Entonces Sedequías hijo de Quenaná, se acercó a Micaías y lo golpeó en el rostro. ―¿Desde cuándo el Espíritu del Señor ha dejado de hablarme a mí, para hablarte a ti?

Llegándose entonces Sedechîas hijo de Chânaana, hirió á Michêas en la mejilla, diciendo: ¿Por dónde se fué de mí el espíritu de Jehová para hablarte á ti?

But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the LORD’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”

Y Micaías le respondió: ―Recibirás la respuesta a tu pregunta cuando andes escondiéndote de habitación en habitación.

Y Michêas respondió: He aquí tú lo verás en aquel día, cuando te irás metiendo de cámara en cámara por esconderte.

And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”

Entonces el rey Acab ordenó que arrestaran a Micaías. ―Llévenlo a Amón, el jefe de la ciudad, y a mi hijo Joás.

Entonces el rey de Israel dijo: Toma á Michêas, y vuélvelo á Amón gobernador de la ciudad, y á Joas hijo del rey;

And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son.

Díganles que yo he ordenado que pongan a este individuo en la cárcel, y lo alimenten con pan y agua, sólo lo suficiente para que siga vivo hasta que yo regrese en paz.

Y dirás: Así ha dicho el rey: Echad á éste en la cárcel, y mantenedle con pan de angustia y con agua de aflicción, hasta que yo vuelva en paz.

And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

Say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”

―Si tú vuelves en paz —respondió Micaías— será prueba de que el Señor no ha hablado por medio de mí. Entonces Micaías se volvió al pueblo que estaba parado cerca, y dijo: ―¡Tomen nota de lo que he dicho!

Y dijo Michêas: Si llegares á volver en paz, Jehová no ha hablado por mí. En seguida dijo: Oid, pueblos todos.

And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!”

El rey Acab, de Israel, y el rey Josafat, de Judá, subieron contra Ramot de Galaad.

Subió pues el rey de Israel con Josaphat rey de Judá á Ramoth de Galaad.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.

Acab le dijo a Josafat: «Usa tus ropas reales, pero yo no usaré las mías, sino que me disfrazaré». Entonces Acab se disfrazó y entró en la batalla.

Y el rey de Israel dijo á Josaphat: Yo me disfrazaré, y entraré en la batalla: y tú vístete tus vestidos. Y el rey de Israel se disfrazó, y entró en la batalla.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.

El rey de Siria había dado orden a sus treinta y dos comandantes de los carros de guerra que concentraran los ataques contra el rey Acab.

Mas el rey de Siria había mandado á sus treinta y dos capitanes de los carros, diciendo: No peleéis vosotros ni con grande ni con chico, sino sólo contra el rey de Israel.

But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”

Cuando vieron a Josafat con sus vestiduras reales, pensaron: «Este es el hombre que buscamos». Entonces lo rodearon para atacarlo. Pero cuando Josafat gritó pidiendo ayuda, ellos dejaron de perseguirlo.

Y como los capitanes de los carros vieron á Josaphat, dijeron: Ciertamente éste es el rey de Israel; y viniéronse á él para pelear con él; mas el rey Josaphat dió voces.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they came over to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.

Viendo entonces los capitanes de los carros que no era el rey de Israel, apartáronse de él.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

Sin embargo, alguien disparó una flecha sin dirección y esta hizo blanco en el rey Acab, por entre las uniones de su armadura. Entonces el rey ordenó al que conducía su carro: «Sácame de aquí, pues estoy herido».

Y un hombre disparando su arco á la ventura, hirió al rey de Israel por entre las junturas de la armadura; por lo que dijo él á su carretero: Toma la vuelta, y sácame del campo, que estoy herido.

And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”

La batalla se hizo cada vez más intensa a medida que transcurría el día. El rey Acab, herido, permanecía de pie en su carro, frente a los sirios. Pero la sangre que manaba de su herida corría por el piso del carro. Finalmente, al atardecer, murió.

Mas la batalla había arreciado aquel día, y el rey estuvo en su carro delante de los Siros, y á la tarde murió: y la sangre de la herida corría por el seno del carro.

And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.

Cuando el sol se estaba poniendo, se corrió la voz por el campamento: «¡El rey ha muerto! ¡Que todos regresen a sus ciudades! ¡Que cada uno vaya a su casa!». Fue así como murió el rey Acab. Llevaron su cuerpo a Samaria, y allí lo sepultaron.

Y á puesta del sol salió un pregón por el campo, diciendo: ¡Cada uno á su ciudad, y cada cual á su tierra!

And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.

A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”

Cuando su carro y su armadura fueron lavados junto al estanque de Samaria, donde las prostitutas se bañaban, los perros vinieron y lamieron la sangre del rey, tal como el Señor lo había anunciado.

And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.

They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves, according to the LORD’s word which he spoke.

El resto de la historia de Acab, incluyendo el relato de la construcción del palacio de marfil y las ciudades que edificó, está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Israel.

Lo demás de los hechos de Achâb, y todas las cosas que ejecutó, y la casa de marfil que hizo, y todas las ciudades que edificó, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Acab fue sepultado entre sus antepasados, y su hijo Ocozías fue el nuevo rey de Israel.

Mientras tanto, en Judá, Josafat hijo de Asá, había subido al trono durante el cuarto año de reinado de Acab, rey de Israel.

Josafat tenía treinta y cinco años cuando subió al trono, y reinó en Jerusalén durante veinticinco años. Su madre, fue Azuba, hija de Siljí.

Y era Josaphat de treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó á reinar, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Azuba hija de Silai.

Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

Siguió el buen ejemplo de su padre Asá, obedeciendo al Señor en todo, salvo en una cosa: no destruyó los santuarios paganos, de modo que el pueblo hizo sacrificios y quemó incienso en ellos.

Y anduvo en todo el camino de Asa su padre, sin declinar de él, haciendo lo recto en los ojos de Jehová.
