1E Salomão fez parentesco com Faraó, rei do Egito, porque se casou com a filha de Faraó, e a trouxe à cidade de Davi, até que acabasse de edificar a sua própria casa, e a casa do SENHOR, e os muros de Jerusalém em redor.
2Todavia o povo sacrificava nos altares dos lugares altos, porque não havia casa edificada ao nome do SENHOR até aqueles tempos.
3Mas Salomão amava ao SENHOR, andando nos estatutos de seu pai Davi, exceto que sacrificava e queimava incenso nos altares dos lugares altos.
4E o rei foi a Gibeão, porque aquele era o principal lugar alto, e Salomão sacrificou ali mil holocaustos sobre aquele altar.
5Em uma noite, o SENHOR apareceu a Salomão em sonhos. E Deus lhe disse: Pede o que queres que eu te dê.
6E Salomão disse: Tu concedeste grande misericórdia a teu servo Davi, meu pai, como também ele andou perante ti em verdade, em justiça, e com um coração correto para contigo; e guardaste-lhe este teu grande benefício, que lhe deste um filho que se assentasse no seu trono, como acontece hoje.
7Agora, pois, ó SENHOR meu Deus, constituíste a mim, teu servo, rei em lugar de Davi, meu pai; porém sou um tenro jovem, que não sei como entrar nem sair.
8E teu servo está no meio do teu povo que escolheste; um povo grande, que não se pode contar nem numerar por causa de sua multidão.
9Dá, pois, a teu servo um coração com entendimento para julgar ao teu povo, para discernir entre o bem e o mal; pois quem poderá governar este teu tão grande povo?
10E foi do agrado do Senhor que Salomão pedisse isso.
11Deus disse-lhe: Porque pediste isto, e não pediste para ti longa vida, nem pediste para ti riquezas, nem pediste a morte de teus inimigos, mas pediste para ti entendimento para compreender a justiça;
12Eis que o fiz conforme as tuas palavras: eis que te dei um coração sábio e com entendimento, tanto que não houve antes de ti outro como tu, nem depois de ti se levantará outro como tu.
13E também te dei as coisas que não pediste: riquezas e honra; de maneira que, entre os reis, ninguém haverá semelhante a ti em todos os teus dias.
14E se andares em meus caminhos, guardando meus estatutos e meus mandamentos, como andou Davi, teu pai, prolongarei teus dias.
15E quando Salomão despertou, viu que era sonho: e veio a Jerusalém, e apresentou-se diante da arca do pacto do SENHOR, e sacrificou holocaustos, e fez ofertas pacíficas; fez também banquete a todos seus servos.
16Naquela muita vieram duas mulheres prostitutas ao rei, e apresentaram-se diante dele.
17E disse a uma mulher: Ah, senhor meu! Eu e esta mulher morávamos em uma mesma casa, e eu pari estando com ela na casa.
18E aconteceu ao terceiro dia depois que eu dei à luz, que esta deu à luz também, e morávamos nós juntas; ninguém de fora estava em casa, a não ser nós duas na casa.
19E uma noite o filho desta mulher morreu, porque ela se deitou sobre ele.
20E levantou-se à meia noite, e tomou a meu filho de junto a mim, estando eu tua serva dormindo, e o pôs a seu lado, e pôs a meu lado seu filho morto.
21E quando eu me levantei pela manhã para dar o peito a meu filho, eis que que estava morto: mas observei-lhe pela manhã, e vi que não era meu filho, que eu havia dado à luz.
22Então a outra mulher disse: Não; meu filho é o que vive, e teu filho é o morto. E a outra voltou a dizer: Não; teu filho é o morto, e meu filho é o que vive. Assim falavam diante do rei.
23O rei então disse: Esta disse: Meu filho é o que vive, e teu filho é o morto: e a outra disse: Não, mas o teu é o morto, e meu filho é o que vive.
24E disse o rei: Trazei-me uma espada. E trouxeram ao rei uma espada.
25Em seguida o rei disse: Parti por meio o menino vivo, e dai a metade à uma, e a outra metade à outra.
26Então a mulher cujo era o filho vivo, falou ao rei (porque suas entranhas se lhe comoveram por seu filho), e disse: Ah, senhor meu! Dai a esta o menino vivo, e não o mateis. Mas a outra disse: nem a mim nem a ti; parti-o.
27Então o rei respondeu, e disse: Dai a aquela o filho vivo, e não o mateis: ela é sua mãe.
28E todo Israel ouviu aquele juízo que havia dado o rei: e temeram ao rei, porque viram que havia nele sabedoria de Deus para julgar.

1Y SALOMÓN hizo parentesco con Faraón rey de Egipto, porque tomó la hija de Faraón, y trájola á la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa de Jehová, y los muros de Jerusalem alrededor.
2Hasta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los altos; porque no había casa edificada al nombre de Jehová hasta aquellos tiempos.
3Mas Salomón amó á Jehová, andando en los estatutos de su padre David: solamente sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los altos.
4E iba el rey á Gabaón, porque aquél era el alto principal, y sacrificaba allí: mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar.
5Y aparecióse Jehová á Salomón en Gabaón una noche en sueños, y díjole Dios: Pide lo que quisieres que yo te dé.
6Y Salomón dijo: Tú hiciste gran misericordia á tu siervo David mi padre, según que él anduvo delante de ti en verdad, en justicia, y con rectitud de corazón para contigo: y tú le has guardado esta tu grande misericordia, que le diste hijo que se sentase en su trono, como sucede en este día.
7Ahora pues, Jehová Dios mío, tú has puesto á mí tu siervo por rey en lugar de David mi padre: y yo soy mozo pequeño, que no sé cómo entrar ni salir.
8Y tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual tú escogiste; un pueblo grande, que no se puede contar ni numerar por su multitud.
9Da pues á tu siervo corazón dócil para juzgar á tu pueblo, para discernir entre lo bueno y lo malo: porque ¿quién podrá gobernar este tu pueblo tan grande?
10Y agradó delante de Adonai que Salomón pidiese esto.
11Y díjole Dios: Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, mas demandaste para ti inteligencia para oir juicio;
12He aquí lo he hecho conforme á tus palabras: he aquí que te he dado corazón sabio y entendido, tanto que no haya habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levantará otro como tú.
13Y aun también te he dado las cosas que no pediste, riquezas y gloria: tal, que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días.
14Y si anduvieres en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como anduvo David tu padre, yo alargaré tus días.
15Y como Salomón despertó, vió que era sueño: y vino á Jerusalem, y presentóse delante del arca del pacto de Jehová, y sacrificó holocaustos, é hizo pacíficos; hizo también banquete á todos sus siervos.
16En aquella sazón vinieron dos mujeres rameras al rey, y presentáronse delante de él.
17Y dijo la una mujer: ¡Ah, señor mío! yo y esta mujer morábamos en una misma casa, y yo parí estando con ella en la casa.
18Y aconteció al tercer día después que yo parí, que ésta parió también, y morábamos nosotras juntas; ninguno de fuera estaba en casa, sino nosotras dos en la casa.
19Y una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.
20Y levantóse á media noche, y tomó á mi hijo de junto á mí, estando yo tu sierva durmiendo, y púsolo á su lado, y púsome á mi lado su hijo muerto.
21Y como yo me levanté por la mañana para dar el pecho á mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto: mas observéle por la mañana, y vi que no era mi hijo, que yo había parido.
22Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No; mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió á decir: No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban delante del rey.
23El rey entonces dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto: y la otra dice, No, mas el tuyo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive.
24Y dijo el rey: Traedme un cuchillo. Y trajeron al rey un cuchillo.
25En seguida el rey dijo: Partid por medio el niño vivo, y dad la mitad á la una, y la otra mitad á la otra.
26Entonces la mujer cuyo era el hijo vivo, habló al rey (porque sus entrañas se le conmovieron por su hijo), y dijo: ¡Ah, señor mío! dad á ésta el niño vivo, y no lo matéis. Mas la otra dijo: Ni á mí ni á ti; partidlo.
27Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo: Dad á aquélla el hijo vivo, y no lo matéis: ella es su madre.
28Y todo Israel oyó aquel juicio que había dado el rey: y temieron al rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar.
King James Version
1And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
3And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
5In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
15And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
17And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
22And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
23Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
28And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
World English Bible
1Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, the LORD’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.
2However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for the LORD’s name.
3Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.
4The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
5In Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”
6Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.
7Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.
8Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude.
9Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”
10This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,
12behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.
13I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.
14If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
15Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the LORD’s covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.
16Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.
17The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.
18The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.
19This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.
20She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”
22The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.
23Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead one;’ and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”
24The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
25The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”
26Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”
27Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”
28All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
