1*Et Salomon s’allia par mariage avec le Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et prit [pour femme] la fille du Pharaon ; et il l’amena dans la ville de David, jusqu’à ce qu’il ait achevé de bâtir sa maison, et la maison de l’Éternel, et la muraille de Jérusalem, tout à l’entour.
2Seulement le peuple sacrifiait sur les hauts lieux ; car aucune maison ne fut bâtie pour le nom de l’Éternel jusqu’à ces jours-là.
3Et Salomon aimait l’Éternel, marchant dans les statuts de David, son père ; seulement il offrait des sacrifices et faisait fumer de l’encens sur les hauts lieux.
4Et le roi s’en alla à Gabaon pour y sacrifier, car c’était le principal haut lieu ; Salomon offrit 1 000 holocaustes sur cet autel.
5L’Éternel apparut à Salomon, à Gabaon, dans un songe de la nuit. Et Dieu dit : Demande ce que tu veux que je te donne.
6Et Salomon dit : Tu as usé d’une grande bonté envers ton serviteur David, mon père, selon qu’il a marché devant toi en vérité et en justice, et en droiture de cœur avec toi ; et tu lui as gardé cette grande bonté, et tu lui as donné un fils qui est assis sur son trône, comme [il en est] aujourd’hui.
7Et maintenant, Éternel, mon Dieu, tu as fait roi ton serviteur en la place de David, mon père, et moi, je suis un jeune garçon, je ne sais pas sortir et entrer ;
8et ton serviteur est au milieu de ton peuple, que tu as choisi, un peuple nombreux, qui ne peut se compter ni nombrer à cause de [sa] multitude.
9Donne donc à ton serviteur un cœur qui écoute, pour juger ton peuple, pour discerner entre le bien et le mal ; car qui est capable de juger ton si grand peuple ?
10Et la parole fut bonne aux yeux du Seigneur, que Salomon ait demandé cette chose.
11Et Dieu lui dit : Parce que tu as demandé cela, et que tu n’as pas demandé pour toi de longs jours, et que tu n’as pas demandé pour toi des richesses, et que tu n’as pas demandé la vie de tes ennemis, mais que tu as demandé pour toi du discernement afin de comprendre le juste jugement,
12voici, j’ai fait selon ta parole ; voici, je t’ai donné un cœur sage et intelligent, en sorte qu’il n’y aura eu personne comme toi, avant toi, et qu’après toi il ne se lèvera personne comme toi.
13Et je t’ai donné aussi ce que tu n’as pas demandé, tant les richesses que la gloire, de sorte qu’il n’y aura personne comme toi parmi les rois, tous tes jours.
14Et si tu marches dans mes voies, gardant mes statuts et mes commandements, comme David, ton père, a marché, alors je prolongerai tes jours.
15Et Salomon se réveilla, et voici, [c’était] un songe. Et il vint à Jérusalem, et se tint devant l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel, et offrit des holocaustes, et offrit des sacrifices de prospérités, et fit un festin à tous ses serviteurs.
16Alors deux femmes prostituées vinrent vers le roi, et se tinrent devant lui.
17Et la première femme dit : Ah, mon seigneur ! moi et cette femme nous habitions la même maison, et j’accouchai, étant avec elle dans la maison.
18Et il arriva, le troisième jour après que j’eus accouché, que cette femme aussi accoucha. Et nous étions ensemble ; aucun étranger n’était avec nous dans la maison, il n’y avait que nous deux dans la maison.
19Et le fils de cette femme mourut dans la nuit, parce qu’elle s’était couchée sur lui.
20Et elle se leva au milieu de la nuit, et prit mon fils d’à côté de moi, pendant que ta servante dormait, et le coucha dans son sein ; et son fils, qui était mort, elle le coucha dans mon sein.
21Et je me levai le matin pour donner à téter à mon fils, et voici, il était mort ; et je le considérai au matin, et voici, ce n’était pas mon fils que j’avais enfanté.
22Et l’autre femme dit : Non, car mon fils est celui qui vit, et ton fils est celui qui est mort. Et celle-là disait : Non, car ton fils est celui qui est mort, et mon fils est celui qui vit. Elles parlaient ainsi devant le roi.
23Et le roi dit : Celle-ci dit : Celui-ci est mon fils, qui vit, et ton fils, c’est celui qui est mort ; et celle-là dit : Non, car c’est ton fils qui est mort, et mon fils est celui qui vit.
24Et le roi dit : Apportez-moi une épée. Et on apporta l’épée devant le roi.
25Et le roi dit : Coupez en deux l’enfant qui vit, et donnez la moitié à l’une, et la moitié à l’autre.
26Et la femme à qui était l’enfant vivant parla au roi, car ses entrailles étaient tout émues pour son fils, et elle dit : Ah, mon seigneur ! donnez-lui l’enfant vivant, et ne le tuez point. Et l’autre dit : Qu’il ne soit ni à moi, ni à toi ; coupez-le en deux !
27Et le roi répondit et dit : Donnez à celle-là l’enfant qui vit, et ne le tuez point : c’est elle qui est sa mère.
28Et tout Israël entendit parler du jugement que le roi avait prononcé ; et ils craignirent le roi, car ils voyaient que la sagesse de Dieu était en lui pour faire justice.

1Y SALOMÓN hizo parentesco con Faraón rey de Egipto, porque tomó la hija de Faraón, y trájola á la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa de Jehová, y los muros de Jerusalem alrededor.
2Hasta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los altos; porque no había casa edificada al nombre de Jehová hasta aquellos tiempos.
3Mas Salomón amó á Jehová, andando en los estatutos de su padre David: solamente sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los altos.
4E iba el rey á Gabaón, porque aquél era el alto principal, y sacrificaba allí: mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar.
5Y aparecióse Jehová á Salomón en Gabaón una noche en sueños, y díjole Dios: Pide lo que quisieres que yo te dé.
6Y Salomón dijo: Tú hiciste gran misericordia á tu siervo David mi padre, según que él anduvo delante de ti en verdad, en justicia, y con rectitud de corazón para contigo: y tú le has guardado esta tu grande misericordia, que le diste hijo que se sentase en su trono, como sucede en este día.
7Ahora pues, Jehová Dios mío, tú has puesto á mí tu siervo por rey en lugar de David mi padre: y yo soy mozo pequeño, que no sé cómo entrar ni salir.
8Y tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual tú escogiste; un pueblo grande, que no se puede contar ni numerar por su multitud.
9Da pues á tu siervo corazón dócil para juzgar á tu pueblo, para discernir entre lo bueno y lo malo: porque ¿quién podrá gobernar este tu pueblo tan grande?
10Y agradó delante de Adonai que Salomón pidiese esto.
11Y díjole Dios: Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, mas demandaste para ti inteligencia para oir juicio;
12He aquí lo he hecho conforme á tus palabras: he aquí que te he dado corazón sabio y entendido, tanto que no haya habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levantará otro como tú.
13Y aun también te he dado las cosas que no pediste, riquezas y gloria: tal, que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días.
14Y si anduvieres en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como anduvo David tu padre, yo alargaré tus días.
15Y como Salomón despertó, vió que era sueño: y vino á Jerusalem, y presentóse delante del arca del pacto de Jehová, y sacrificó holocaustos, é hizo pacíficos; hizo también banquete á todos sus siervos.
16En aquella sazón vinieron dos mujeres rameras al rey, y presentáronse delante de él.
17Y dijo la una mujer: ¡Ah, señor mío! yo y esta mujer morábamos en una misma casa, y yo parí estando con ella en la casa.
18Y aconteció al tercer día después que yo parí, que ésta parió también, y morábamos nosotras juntas; ninguno de fuera estaba en casa, sino nosotras dos en la casa.
19Y una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.
20Y levantóse á media noche, y tomó á mi hijo de junto á mí, estando yo tu sierva durmiendo, y púsolo á su lado, y púsome á mi lado su hijo muerto.
21Y como yo me levanté por la mañana para dar el pecho á mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto: mas observéle por la mañana, y vi que no era mi hijo, que yo había parido.
22Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No; mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió á decir: No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban delante del rey.
23El rey entonces dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto: y la otra dice, No, mas el tuyo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive.
24Y dijo el rey: Traedme un cuchillo. Y trajeron al rey un cuchillo.
25En seguida el rey dijo: Partid por medio el niño vivo, y dad la mitad á la una, y la otra mitad á la otra.
26Entonces la mujer cuyo era el hijo vivo, habló al rey (porque sus entrañas se le conmovieron por su hijo), y dijo: ¡Ah, señor mío! dad á ésta el niño vivo, y no lo matéis. Mas la otra dijo: Ni á mí ni á ti; partidlo.
27Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo: Dad á aquélla el hijo vivo, y no lo matéis: ella es su madre.
28Y todo Israel oyó aquel juicio que había dado el rey: y temieron al rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar.
King James Version
1And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
3And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
5In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
15And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
17And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
22And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
23Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
28And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
World English Bible
1Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, the LORD’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.
2However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for the LORD’s name.
3Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.
4The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
5In Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”
6Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.
7Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.

9Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

13I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.
14If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
15Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the LORD’s covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.
16Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.
17The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.
18The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.
19This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.
20She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”
22The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.
23Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead one;’ and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”
24The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
25The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”
26Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”
27Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”
28All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
