Salomón , pues, afianzado que hubo su trono, emparentó con el faraón, rey de Egipto, desposándose con su hija; la que condujo a la ciudad de David, mientras que acababa de edificar su casa y el templo del Señor, y los muros alrededor de Jesusalén.
Y SALOMÓN hizo parentesco con Faraón rey de Egipto, porque tomó la hija de Faraón, y trájola á la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa de Jehová, y los muros de Jerusalem alrededor.

Ahora, pues, Señor Dios, tú me has hecho reinar a mí, siervo tuyo, en lugar de mi padre David; mas yo soy aún como un niño pequeño que no sabe la manera de conducirse.

Por otra parte se halla tu siervo en medio del pueblo que tú escogiste, pueblo infinito que no puede contarse ni reducirse a número por su muchedumbre.

Agradó esta oración al Señor, por haber pedido Salomón semejante gracia.

sábete que yo he otorgado tu súplica, y te he dado un corazón sabio y de tanta inteligencia que no lo ha habido semejante antes de ti, ni le habrá después.

A esto respondió la otra mujer: Es falso, tu hijo es el que murió, y el que vive es el mío. La otra por el contrario decía: Mientes, pues mi hijo es el vivo, y el tuyo es el muerto. Y de esta manera altercaban en presencia del rey.
Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No; mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió á decir: No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban delante del rey.

Entonces el rey pronunció esta sentencia: Dad a la primera el niño vivo, y ya no hay que matarlo, pues ella es su madre.

Se divulgó por todo Israel la sentencia dada por el rey, y se llenaron todos de un respetuoso temor hacia él, viendo que le asistía la sabiduría de Dios para administrar justicia.
