Cuando Hiram, rey de Tiro, se enteró de que Salomón había sido ungido rey para suceder a su padre, envió embajadores a Salomón porque Hiram siempre había sido amigo de David.
HIRAM rey de Tiro envió también sus siervos á Salomón, luego que oyó que lo habían ungido por rey en lugar de su padre: porque Hiram había siempre amado á David.

“Como sabes, mi padre David no pudo construir un Templo para honrar al Señor su Dios debido a las guerras que se libraron contra él desde todas las direcciones, hasta que el Señor conquistó a sus enemigos.
Tú sabes como mi padre David no pudo edificar casa al nombre de Jehová su Dios, por las guerras que le cercaron, hasta que Jehová puso sus enemigos bajo las plantas de sus pies.
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
“You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the wars which were around him on every side, until the LORD put his enemies under the soles of his feet.
Pero ahora el Señor, mi Dios, me ha dado paz por todas partes: no hay enemigos ni suceden cosas malas.

“Así que pienso construir un Templo para honrar al Señor, mi Dios, como el Señor le dijo a mi padre David. Le dijo: ‘Tu hijo, al que pondré en tu trono para que te suceda, construirá el Templo para honrarme’.
Yo por tanto he determinado ahora edificar casa al nombre de Jehová mi Dios, como Jehová lo habló á David mi padre, diciendo: Tu hijo, que yo pondré en lugar tuyo en tu trono, él edificará casa á mi nombre.
And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

Ordena, pues, que se corten algunos cedros del Líbano para mí. Mis obreros ayudarán a los tuyos, y yo les pagaré a los tuyos con la tarifa que tú decidas, pues sabes que no tenemos a nadie que sepa cortar madera como los sidonios”.
Manda pues ahora que me corten cedros del Líbano; y mis siervos estarán con los tuyos, y yo te daré por tus siervos el salario que tú dijeres: porque tú sabes bien que ninguno hay entre nosotros que sepa labrar la madera como los Sidonios.
Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
Now therefore command that cedar trees be cut for me out of Lebanon. My servants will be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you say. For you know that there is nobody among us who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians.”
Cuando Hiram escuchó el mensaje de Salomón, se alegró mucho y dijo: “¡Alabado sea hoy el Señor, porque le ha dado a David un hijo sabio para dirigir esta gran nación!”
Y como Hiram oyó las palabras de Salomón, holgóse en gran manera, y dijo: Bendito sea hoy Jehová, que dió hijo sabio á David sobre este pueblo tan grande.
And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

Hiram envió esta respuesta a Salomón: “Gracias por tu mensaje. En cuanto a la madera de cedro y ciprés, haré todo lo que quieras.
Y envió Hiram á decir á Salomón: He oído lo que me mandaste á decir: yo haré todo lo que te pluguiere acerca de la madera de cedro, y la madera de haya.
And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

Mis obreros bajarán los troncos desde el Líbano hasta el mar, y los haré flotar en balsas por mar hasta donde tú decidas. Allí haré romper las balsas, y tú podrás llevarte los troncos. A cambio, me gustaría que me proporcionaras comida para mi casa”.
Mis siervos la llevarán desde el Líbano á la mar; y yo la pondré en balsas por la mar hasta el lugar que tú me señalares, y allí se desatará, y tú la tomarás: y tú harás mi voluntad en dar de comer á mi familia.
My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

Así que Hiram le proporcionó a Salomón toda la madera de cedro y ciprés que quiso,
