1So leget nun ab alle Bosheit und allen Betrug und Heuchelei und Neid und alles Afterreden,
2und seid begierig nach der vernünftigen, lautern Milch als die jetzt geborenen Kindlein, auf daß ihr durch dieselbe zunehmet,
3so ihr anders geschmeckt habt, daß der HERR freundlich ist,
4zu welchem ihr gekommen seid als zu dem lebendigen Stein, der von Menschen verworfen ist, aber bei Gott ist er auserwählt und köstlich.
5Und auch ihr, als die lebendigen Steine, bauet euch zum geistlichem Hause und zum heiligen Priestertum, zu opfern geistliche Opfer, die Gott angenehm sind durch Jesum Christum.
6Darum steht in der Schrift: “Siehe da, ich lege einen auserwählten, köstlichen Eckstein in Zion; und wer an ihn glaubt, der soll nicht zu Schanden werden.”
7Euch nun, die ihr glaubet, ist er köstlich; den Ungläubigen aber ist der Stein, den die Bauleute verworfen haben, der zum Eckstein geworden ist,
8ein Stein des Anstoßens und ein Fels des Ärgernisses; denn sie stoßen sich an dem Wort und glauben nicht daran, wozu sie auch gesetzt sind.
9Ihr aber seid das auserwählte Geschlecht, das königliche Priestertum, das heilige Volk, das Volk des Eigentums, daß ihr verkündigen sollt die Tugenden des, der euch berufen hat von der Finsternis zu seinem wunderbaren Licht;
10die ihr weiland nicht ein Volk waret, nun aber Gottes Volk seid, und weiland nicht in Gnaden waret, nun aber in Gnaden seid.
11Liebe Brüder, ich ermahne euch als die Fremdlinge und Pilgrime: enthaltet euch von fleischlichen Lüsten, welche wider die Seele streiten,
12und führet einen guten Wandel unter den Heiden, auf daß die, so von euch afterreden als von Übeltätern, eure guten Werke sehen und Gott preisen, wenn es nun an den Tag kommen wird.
13Seid untertan aller menschlichen Ordnung um des HERRN willen, es sei dem König, als dem Obersten,
14oder den Hauptleuten, als die von ihm gesandt sind zur Rache über die Übeltäter und zu Lobe den Frommen.
15Denn das ist der Wille Gottes, daß ihr mit Wohltun verstopft die Unwissenheit der törichten Menschen,
16als die Freien, und nicht, als hättet ihr die Freiheit zum Deckel der Bosheit, sondern als die Knechte Gottes.
17Tut Ehre jedermann, habt die Brüder lieb; fürchtet Gott, ehret den König!
18Ihr Knechte, seid untertan mit aller Furcht den Herren, nicht allein den gütigen und gelinden, sondern auch den wunderlichen.
19Denn das ist Gnade, so jemand um des Gewissens willen zu Gott das Übel verträgt und leidet das Unrecht.
20Denn was ist das für ein Ruhm, so ihr um Missetat willen Streiche leidet? Aber wenn ihr um Wohltat willen leidet und erduldet, das ist Gnade bei Gott.
21Denn dazu seid ihr berufen; sintemal auch Christus gelitten hat für uns und uns ein Vorbild gelassen, daß ihr sollt nachfolgen seinen Fußtapfen;
22welcher keine Sünde getan hat, ist auch kein Betrug in seinem Munde erfunden;
23welcher nicht wiederschalt, da er gescholten ward, nicht drohte, da er litt, er stellte es aber dem anheim, der da recht richtet;
24welcher unsre Sünden selbst hinaufgetragen hat an seinem Leibe auf das Holz, auf daß wir, der Sünde abgestorben, der Gerechtigkeit leben; durch welches Wunden ihr seid heil geworden.
25Denn ihr waret wie die irrenden Schafe; aber ihr seid nun bekehrt zu dem Hirten und Bischof eurer Seelen.

1DEJANDO pues toda malicia, y todo engaño, y fingimientos, y envidias, y todas las detracciones,
2Desead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche espiritual, sin engaño, para que por ella crezcáis en salud:
3Si empero habéis gustado que el Señor es benigno;
4Al cual allegándoos, piedra viva, reprobada cierto de los hombres, empero elegida de Dios, preciosa,
5Vosotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados una casa espiritual, y un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales, agradables á Dios por Jesucristo.
6Por lo cual también contiene la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sión la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; y el que creyere en ella, no será confundido.
7Ella es pues honor á vosotros que creéis: mas para los desobedientes, la piedra que los edificadores reprobaron, ésta fué hecha la cabeza del ángulo;
8Y Piedra de tropiezo, y roca de escándalo á aquellos que tropiezan en la palabra, siendo desobedientes; para lo cual fueron también ordenados.
9Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, gente santa, pueblo adquirido, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os ha llamado de las tinieblas á su luz admirable:
10Vosotros, que en el tiempo pasado no erais pueblo, mas ahora sois pueblo de Dios; que en el tiempo pasado no habíais alcanzado misericordia, mas ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia.
11Amados, yo os ruego como á extranjeros y peregrinos, os abstengáis de los deseos carnales que batallan contra el alma,
12Teniendo vuestra conversación honesta entre los Gentiles; para que, en lo que ellos murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, glorifiquen á Dios en el día de la visitación, estimándoos por las buenas obras.
13Sed pues sujetos á toda ordenación humana por respeto á Dios: ya sea al rey, como á superior;
14Ya á los gobernadores, como de él enviados para venganza de los malhechores, y para loor de los que hacen bien.
15Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios; que haciendo bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres vanos:
16Como libres, y no como teniendo la libertad por cobertura de malicia, sino como siervos de Dios.
17Honrad á todos. Amad la fraternidad. Temed á Dios. Honrad al rey.
18Siervos, sed sujetos con todo temor á vuestros amos; no solamente á los buenos y humanos, sino también á los rigurosos.
19Porque esto es agradable, si alguno á causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, sufre molestias padeciendo injustamente.
20Porque ¿qué gloria es, si pecando vosotros sois abofeteados, y lo sufrís? mas si haciendo bien sois afligidos, y lo sufrís, esto ciertamente es agradable delante de Dios.
21Porque para esto sois llamados; pues que también Cristo padeció por nosotros, dejándonos ejemplo, para que vosotros sigáis sus pisadas:
22El cual no hizo pecado; ni fué hallado engaño en su boca:
23Quien cuando le maldecían, no retornaba maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino remitía la causa al que juzga justamente:
24El cual mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros siendo muertos á los pecados, vivamos á la justicia: por la herida del cual habéis sido sanados.
25Porque vosotros erais como ovejas descarriadas; mas ahora habéis vuelto al Pastor y Obispo de vuestras almas.

1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
18Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

1Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking,
2as newborn babies, long for the pure spiritual milk, that with it you may grow,
3if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4Come to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.
5You also as living stones are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6Because it is contained in Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen and precious. He who believes in him will not be disappointed.”
7For you who believe therefore is the honor, but for those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,”
8and, “a stumbling stone and a rock of offense.” For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed.
9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10In the past, you were not a people, but now are God’s people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
12having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good works and glorify God in the day of visitation.
13Therefore subject yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether to the king, as supreme,
14or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well.
15For this is the will of God, that by well-doing you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
16Live as free people, yet not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God.
17Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
18Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the wicked.
19For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God.
20For what glory is it if, when you sin, you patiently endure beating? But if when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God.
21For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps,
22who didn’t sin, “neither was deceit found in his mouth.”
23When he was cursed, he didn’t curse back. When he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously.
24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds.
25For you were going astray like sheep; but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
