1Desechando, pues, toda malicia, y todo engaño, e hipocresía, y envidia, y toda maledicencia,
2desead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche no adulterada de la palabra, para que por ella crezcáis;
3si es que habéis gustado la benignidad del Señor;
4al cual acercándoos, piedra viva, desechada ciertamente por los hombres, mas escogida y preciosa para Dios.
5Vosotros también, como piedras vivas, sois edificados como casa espiritual y sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales, agradables a Dios por Jesucristo.
6Por lo cual también contiene la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sión la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; Y el que creyere en Él, no será avergonzado.
7Para vosotros, pues, los que creéis; Él es precioso; mas para los desobedientes, la piedra que los edificadores desecharon; esta fue hecha la cabeza del ángulo;
8Y: Piedra de tropiezo, y roca de escándalo a los que tropiezan en la palabra, siendo desobedientes; para lo cual fueron también ordenados.
9Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido; para que anunciéis las virtudes de Aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable.
10Vosotros, que en tiempo pasado no erais pueblo, mas ahora sois el pueblo de Dios; que no habíais alcanzado misericordia, pero ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia.
11Amados, yo os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de las concupiscencias carnales que batallan contra el alma;
12manteniendo vuestra honesta manera de vivir entre los gentiles; para que, en lo que ellos murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, al ver vuestras buenas obras, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación.
13Sujetaos a toda ordenación humana por causa del Señor; ya sea al rey, como a superior,
14ya a los gobernadores, como por Él enviados para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen bien.
15Porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios; que haciendo el bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres necios.
16Como libres, mas no usando la libertad para cobertura de malicia, sino como siervos de Dios.
17Honrad a todos. Amad la hermandad. Temed a Dios. Honrad al rey.
18Siervos, sujetaos con todo temor a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y amables, sino también a los que son severos.
19Porque esto es loable, si alguno a causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, sufre molestias padeciendo injustamente.
20Porque ¿qué gloria es, si pecando vosotros sois abofeteados, y lo sufrís? Pero si haciendo bien sois afligidos, y lo sufrís, esto ciertamente es agradable delante de Dios.
21Pues para esto fuisteis llamados; porque también Cristo padeció por nosotros, dejándonos ejemplo, para que vosotros sigáis sus pisadas:
22El cual no hizo pecado; ni fue hallado engaño en su boca:
23Quien cuando le maldecían no respondía con maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba a Aquél que juzga justamente:
24Quien llevó Él mismo nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, siendo muertos a los pecados, vivamos a la justicia; por las heridas del cual habéis sido sanados.
25Porque vosotros erais como ovejas descarriadas; mas ahora habéis vuelto al Pastor y Obispo de vuestras almas.

2Desead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche espiritual, sin engaño, para que por ella crezcáis en salud:
3Si empero habéis gustado que el Señor es benigno;
4Al cual allegándoos, piedra viva, reprobada cierto de los hombres, empero elegida de Dios, preciosa,
5Vosotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados una casa espiritual, y un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales, agradables á Dios por Jesucristo.
6Por lo cual también contiene la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sión la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; y el que creyere en ella, no será confundido.
7Ella es pues honor á vosotros que creéis: mas para los desobedientes, la piedra que los edificadores reprobaron, ésta fué hecha la cabeza del ángulo;
8Y Piedra de tropiezo, y roca de escándalo á aquellos que tropiezan en la palabra, siendo desobedientes; para lo cual fueron también ordenados.
9Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, gente santa, pueblo adquirido, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os ha llamado de las tinieblas á su luz admirable:
10Vosotros, que en el tiempo pasado no erais pueblo, mas ahora sois pueblo de Dios; que en el tiempo pasado no habíais alcanzado misericordia, mas ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia.

12Teniendo vuestra conversación honesta entre los Gentiles; para que, en lo que ellos murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, glorifiquen á Dios en el día de la visitación, estimándoos por las buenas obras.
13Sed pues sujetos á toda ordenación humana por respeto á Dios: ya sea al rey, como á superior;
14Ya á los gobernadores, como de él enviados para venganza de los malhechores, y para loor de los que hacen bien.
15Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios; que haciendo bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres vanos:
16Como libres, y no como teniendo la libertad por cobertura de malicia, sino como siervos de Dios.
17Honrad á todos. Amad la fraternidad. Temed á Dios. Honrad al rey.
18Siervos, sed sujetos con todo temor á vuestros amos; no solamente á los buenos y humanos, sino también á los rigurosos.
19Porque esto es agradable, si alguno á causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, sufre molestias padeciendo injustamente.

1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
18Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
World English Bible
1Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking,
2as newborn babies, long for the pure spiritual milk, that with it you may grow,
3if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4Come to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.
5You also as living stones are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6Because it is contained in Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen and precious. He who believes in him will not be disappointed.”
7For you who believe therefore is the honor, but for those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,”
8and, “a stumbling stone and a rock of offense.” For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed.
9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10In the past, you were not a people, but now are God’s people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
12having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good works and glorify God in the day of visitation.
13Therefore subject yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether to the king, as supreme,
14or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well.
15For this is the will of God, that by well-doing you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
16Live as free people, yet not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God.
17Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
18Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the wicked.
19For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God.
20For what glory is it if, when you sin, you patiently endure beating? But if when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God.
21For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps,
22who didn’t sin, “neither was deceit found in his mouth.”
23When he was cursed, he didn’t curse back. When he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously.
24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds.
25For you were going astray like sheep; but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
