1Y como Cristo padeció sufrimiento físico, ustedes deben prepararse con la misma actitud que él tuvo, porque los que sufren físicamente, han abandonado el pecado.
2Ustedes no vivirán el resto de sus vidas siguiendo los deseos humanos, sino haciendo la voluntad de Dios.
3En el pasado vivieron mucho tiempo siguiendo los caminos del mundo: inmoralidad, complacencia sexual, orgías, fiestas, borracheras, e idolatría abominable.
4La gente piensa que es extraño que ustedes ya no participen con ellos de este estilo de vida lleno de excesos, y por eso los maldicen. Pero ellos tendrán que dar cuentas de lo que han hecho contra Aquél que está listo para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.
5Por eso, la buena noticia fue compartida con los que ya murieron,
6para que aunque hayan sido juzgados correctamente según la justicia humana y pecaminosa, ellos puedan vivir en el espíritu según la justicia de Dios.
7¡Todo llegará a su fin! Así que piensen con claridad y manténganse vigilantes cuando oren.
8Por encima de todo, ámense unos a otros con amor profundo, porque el amor cubre muchas de las faltas que la gente comete.
9Muestren hospitalidad unos con otros y no se quejen.
10Cualquiera sea el don que hayan recibido, compártanlo con otros entre ustedes, como un pueblo que demuestra sabiamente la gracia de Dios, en todas sus formas.
11Todo el que hable, hágalo como si Dios hablara a través de él. Todo aquél que quiera ayudar a otros, hágalo por medio de la fuerza que Dios le da, para que en todo Dios sea glorificado por medio de Jesucristo. Que la gloria y el poder sean suyos por siempre y para siempre. Amén.
12Amigos míos, no se sorprendan ante las “pruebas de fuego” que están experimentando, como si estas fueran algo inesperado.
13Estén contentos en la medida que participan del sufrimiento de Cristo, porque cuando aparezca en su gloria, ustedes serán muy felices.
14Si alguien los maldice en el nombre de Cristo, en realidad son bendecidos, porque el espíritu glorioso de Dios reposa sobre ustedes.
15Y si sufren, no será como asesinos, como ladrones, como criminales o como chismosos,
16sino que si es como un cristiano, entonces no tendrán de qué avergonzarse. Más bien, oren para que sean llamados cristianos.
17Porque el tiempo del juicio ha llegado, y comienza por la casa de Dios. Y si comienza por nosotros, entonces ¿cuál será el fin de los que rechazan la buena noticia de Dios?
18“Si ya es difícil salvarse para los que son justos, ¿qué será de los pecadores que aborrecen a Dios?”
19De modo que los que sufren conforme a la voluntad de Dios, del Creador fiel, deben asegurarse de que están haciendo el bien.

1PUES que Cristo ha padecido por nosotros en la carne, vosotros también estad armados del mismo pensamiento: que el que ha padecido en la carne, cesó de pecado;
2Para que ya el tiempo que queda en carne, viva, no á las concupiscencias de los hombres, sino á la voluntad de Dios.
3Porque nos debe bastar que el tiempo pasado de nuestra vida hayamos hecho la voluntad de los Gentiles, cuando conversábamos en lascivias, en concupiscencias, en embriagueces, en glotonerías, en banquetes, y en abominables idolatrías.
4En lo cual les parece cosa extraña que vosotros no corráis con ellos en el mismo desenfrenamiento de disolución, ultrajándoos:
5Los cuales darán cuenta al que está aparejado para juzgar los vivos y los muertos.
6Porque por esto también ha sido predicado el evangelio á los muertos; para que sean juzgados en carne según los hombres, y vivan en espíritu según Dios.
7Mas el fin de todas las cosas se acerca: sed pues templados, y velad en oración.
8Y sobre todo, tened entre vosotros ferviente caridad; porque la caridad cubrirá multitud de pecados.
9Hospedaos los unos á los otros sin murmuraciones.
10Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, adminístrelo á los otros, como buenos dispensadores de las diferentes gracias de Dios.
11Si alguno habla, hable conforme á las palabras de Dios; si alguno ministra, ministre conforme á la virtud que Dios suministra: para que en todas cosas sea Dios glorificado por Jesucristo, al cual es gloria é imperio para siempre jamás. Amén.
12Carísimos, no os maravilléis cuando sois examinados por fuego, lo cual se hace para vuestra prueba, como si alguna cosa peregrina os aconteciese;
13Antes bien gozaos en que sois participantes de las aflicciones de Cristo; para que también en la revelación de su gloria os gocéis en triunfo.
14Si sois vituperados en el nombre de Cristo, sois bienaventurados; porque la gloria y el Espíritu de Dios reposan sobre vosotros. Cierto, según ellos, él es blasfemado, mas según vosotros es glorificado.
15Así que, ninguno de vosotros padezca como homicida, ó ladrón, ó malhechor, ó por meterse en negocios ajenos.
16Pero si alguno padece como Cristiano, no se avergüence; antes glorifique á Dios en esta parte.
17Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience de la casa de Dios: y si primero comienza por nosotros, ¿qué será el fin de aquellos que no obedecen al evangelio de Dios?
18Y si el justo con dificultad se salva, ¿á dónde aparecerá el infiel y el pecador?
19Y por eso los que son afligidos según la voluntad de Dios, encomiéndenle sus almas, como á fiel Criador, haciendo bien.

1Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
8And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
2that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
3For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
4They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.
5They will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.
7But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.
8And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.
9Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
10As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.
11If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
12Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.
13But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.
14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters.
16But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.
17For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God?
18“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?”
19Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
