1Die Ältesten, die unter euch sind, ermahne ich, der Mitälteste und Zeuge der Leiden des Christus und auch Teilhaber der Herrlichkeit, die geoffenbart werden soll:
2Hütet die Herde Gottes, die bei euch ist, indem ihr die Aufsicht nicht aus Zwang führet, sondern freiwillig, auch nicht um schändlichen Gewinn, sondern bereitwillig,
3nicht als die da herrschen über ihre Besitztümer, sondern indem ihr Vorbilder der Herde seid.
4Und wenn der Erzhirte offenbar geworden ist, so werdet ihr die unverwelkliche Krone der Herrlichkeit empfangen.
5Gleicherweise ihr jüngeren, seid den älteren unterwürfig. Alle aber seid gegeneinander mit Demut fest umhüllt; denn “Gott widersteht den Hochmütigen, den Demütigen aber gibt er Gnade”.
6So demütiget euch nun unter die mächtige Hand Gottes, auf daß er euch erhöhe zur rechten Zeit,
7indem ihr alle eure Sorge auf ihn werfet; denn er ist besorgt für euch.
8Seid nüchtern, wachet; euer Widersacher, der Teufel, geht umher wie ein brüllender Löwe und sucht, wen er verschlinge.
9Dem widerstehet standhaft im Glauben, da ihr wisset, daß dieselben Leiden sich vollziehen an eurer Brüderschaft, die in der Welt ist.
10Der Gott aller Gnade aber, der euch berufen hat zu seiner ewigen Herrlichkeit in Christo Jesu, nachdem ihr eine kleine Zeit gelitten habt, er selbst wird [euch] vollkommen machen, befestigen, kräftigen, gründen.
11Ihm sei [die Herrlichkeit und] die Macht von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Amen.
12Durch Silvanus, den treuen Bruder, wie ich dafür halte, habe ich euch mit wenigem geschrieben, euch ermahnend und bezeugend, daß dies die wahre Gnade Gottes ist, in welcher ihr stehet.
13Es grüßt euch die Miterwählte in Babylon und Markus, mein Sohn.
14Grüßet einander mit dem Kuß der Liebe. Friede euch allen, die ihr in Christo seid!

1RUEGO á los ancianos que están entre vosotros, yo anciano también con ellos, y testigo de las aflicciones de Cristo, que soy también participante de la gloria que ha de ser revelada:
2Apacentad la grey de Dios que está entre vosotros, teniendo cuidado de ella, no por fuerza, sino voluntariamente; no por ganancia deshonesta, sino de un ánimo pronto;
3Y no como teniendo señorío sobre las heredades del Señor, sino siendo dechados de la grey.
4Y cuando apareciere el Príncipe de los pastores, vosotros recibiréis la corona incorruptible de gloria.
5Igualmente, mancebos, sed sujetos á los ancianos; y todos sumisos unos á otros, revestíos de humildad; porque Dios resiste á los soberbios, y da gracia á los humildes.
6Humillaos pues bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, para que él os ensalce cuando fuere tiempo;
7Echando toda vuestra solicitud en él, porque él tiene cuidado de vosotros.
8Sed templados, y velad; porque vuestro adversario el diablo, cual león rugiente, anda alrededor buscando á quien devore:
9Al cual resistid firmes en la fe, sabiendo que las mismas aflicciones han de ser cumplidas en la compañía de vuestros hermanos que están en el mundo.
10Mas el Dios de toda gracia, que nos ha llamado á su gloria eterna por Jesucristo, después que hubiereis un poco de tiempo padecido, él mismo os perfeccione, confirme, corrobore y establezca.
11A él sea gloria é imperio para siempre. Amén.
12Por Silvano, el hermano fiel, según yo pienso, os he escrito brevemente, amonestándoos, y testificando que ésta es la verdadera gracia de Dios, en la cual estáis.
13La iglesia que está en Babilonia, juntamente elegida con vosotros, os saluda, y Marcos mi hijo.
14Saludaos unos á otros con ósculo de caridad. Paz sea con todos vosotros los que estáis en Jesucristo. Amén.

1The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
2Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
4And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
5Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
13The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.
14Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

1Therefore I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed:
2shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily; not for dishonest gain, but willingly;
3not as lording it over those entrusted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock.
4When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn’t fade away.
5Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility and subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,
7casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
8Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
9Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.
10But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
