Poco después Najás condujo el ejército de los amonitas contra la ciudad israelita de Jabés de Galaad. Pero los habitantes de Jabés le suplicaron la paz. ―Pon las condiciones y te serviremos —le propusieron.
Y SUBIÓ Naas Ammonita, y asentó campo contra Jabes de Galaad. Y todos los de Jabes dijeron á Naas: Haz alianza con nosotros, y te serviremos.
Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh-gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

―Bien —contestó Najás—, pero con una condición: le sacaré el ojo derecho a cada uno de ustedes como una afrenta para Israel.
Y Naas Ammonita les respondió: Con esta condición haré alianza con vosotros, que á cada uno de todos vosotros saque el ojo derecho, y ponga esta afrenta sobre todo Israel.
And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.
Nahash the Ammonite said to them, “On this condition I will make it with you, that all your right eyes be gouged out. I will make this dishonor all Israel.”
―Danos siete días para ver si podemos obtener ayuda —respondieron los ancianos de Jabés—. Si ninguno de nuestros hermanos viene a ayudarnos, aceptaremos tus condiciones.
Entonces los ancianos de Jabes le dijeron: Danos siete días, para que enviemos mensajeros á todos los términos de Israel; y si nadie hubiere que nos defienda, saldremos á ti.
And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
The elders of Jabesh said to him, “Give us seven days, that we may send messengers to all the borders of Israel; and then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to you.”
Cuando los mensajeros llegaron a Guibeá, ciudad de Saúl, y contaron lo que ocurría, todos se pusieron a llorar.
Y llegando los mensajeros á Gabaa de Saúl, dijeron estas palabras en oídos del pueblo; y todo el pueblo lloró á voz en grito.
Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

Saúl estaba arando en el campo, y cuando regresó al pueblo preguntó: «¿Qué pasa? ¿Por qué están llorando?». Al enterarse de lo que habían mandado a decir los de Jabés,
Y he aquí Saúl que venía del campo, tras los bueyes; y dijo Saúl: ¿Qué tiene el pueblo, que lloran? Y contáronle las palabras de los hombres de Jabes.
And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.
Behold, Saul came following the oxen out of the field; and Saul said, “What ails the people that they weep?” They told him the words of the men of Jabesh.
el Espíritu de Dios vino poderosamente sobre Saúl, y se enojó mucho.
Y el espíritu de Dios arrebató á Saúl en oyendo estas palabras, y encendióse en ira en gran manera.
And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.
God’s Spirit came mightily on Saul when he heard those words, and his anger burned hot.
Tomó dos bueyes, los cortó en pedazos, y los envió por todo Israel con este mensaje: «Esto es lo que le ocurrirá a los bueyes de cada uno que se niegue a seguir a Saúl y a Samuel a la batalla». Y Dios hizo que el pueblo sintiera temor por la ira de Saúl, y acudieron como un solo hombre.
Y tomando un par de bueyes, cortólos en piezas, y enviólas por todos los términos de Israel por mano de mensajeros, diciendo: Cualquiera que no saliere en pos de Saúl y en pos de Samuel, así será hecho á sus bueyes. Y cayó temor de Jehová sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre.
And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, then sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, “Whoever doesn’t come out after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen.” The dread of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out as one man.

Entonces envió los mensajeros de regreso a Jabés de Galaad para que dijeran: «Los rescataremos antes de mañana al mediodía». ¡Hubo gran alegría en toda la ciudad cuando llegó aquel mensaje!
Y respondieron á los mensajeros que habían venido: Así diréis á los de Jabes de Galaad: Mañana en calentando el sol, tendréis salvamento. Y vinieron los mensajeros, y declaráronlo á los de Jabes, los cuales se holgaron.
And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
They said to the messengers who came, “Tell the men of Jabesh Gilead, ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be rescued.’” The messengers came and told the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
Y los de Jabés mandaron a decir a sus enemigos: «Nos rendiremos. Mañana saldremos y podrán hacer con nosotros lo que quieran».
Y los de Jabes dijeron: Mañana saldremos á vosotros, para que hagáis con nosotros todo lo que bien os pareciere.
Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

Al día siguiente, muy temprano, Saúl llegó. Tras dividir al ejército en tres columnas, lanzó un ataque sorpresivo sobre los amonitas y durante toda la mañana estuvo diezmando al enemigo. La persecución fue tan tenaz, que no quedaron juntos ni siquiera dos.
Y el día siguiente dispuso Saúl el pueblo en tres escuadrones, y entraron en medio del real á la vela de la mañana, é hirieron á los Ammonitas hasta que el día calentaba: y los que quedaron fueron dispersos, tal que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos.
And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

El pueblo le dijo a Samuel: ―¿Dónde están los que decían que Saúl no podría ser nuestro rey? Tráiganlos y los mataremos.
El pueblo entonces dijo á Samuel: ¿Quiénes son lo que decían: Reinará Saúl sobre nosotros? Dadnos esos hombres, y los mataremos.
And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.
The people said to Samuel, “Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring those men, that we may put them to death!”
Pero Saúl respondió: ―Nadie será ejecutado hoy, porque el Señor ha salvado a Israel.
Y Saúl dijo: No morirá hoy ninguno, porque hoy ha obrado Jehová salud en Israel.
And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.
Saul said, “No man shall be put to death today; for today the LORD has rescued Israel.”
Y Samuel le dijo al pueblo: ―Vengan, vamos a Gilgal y confirmemos a Saúl como rey.
Mas Samuel dijo al pueblo: Venid, vamos á Gilgal para que renovemos allí el reino.
Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
Then Samuel said to the people, “Come! Let’s go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.”
En Gilgal, en una ceremonia solemne delante del Señor, coronaron rey a Saúl, y ofrecieron sacrificios de paz al Señor. Saúl y todo Israel estaban llenos de felicidad.
Y fué todo el pueblo á Gilgal, é invistieron allí á Saúl por rey delante de Jehová en Gilgal. Y sacrificaron allí víctimas pacíficas delante de Jehová; y alegráronse mucho allí Saúl y todos los de Israel.
And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
