1Und Samuel sprach zu dem ganzen Israel: Siehe, ich habe auf eure Stimme gehört in allem, was ihr zu mir gesagt habt, und habe einen König über euch gesetzt.
2Und nun siehe, der König zieht vor euch her; ich aber bin alt und grau geworden, und meine Söhne, siehe, sie sind bei euch; und ich habe vor euch gewandelt von meiner Jugend an bis auf diesen Tag.
3Hier bin ich, zeuget wider mich vor Jehova und vor seinem Gesalbten! Wessen Rind habe ich genommen? Oder wessen Esel habe ich genommen? Oder wen habe ich übervorteilt? Wem habe ich Gewalt angetan? Oder aus wessen Hand habe ich Lösegeld genommen, daß ich dadurch meine Augen verhüllt hätte? So will ich es euch wiedergeben.
4Und sie sprachen: Du hast uns nicht übervorteilt und uns keine Gewalt angetan, und hast aus niemandes Hand irgend etwas genommen.
5Und er sprach zu ihnen: Jehova ist Zeuge wider euch, und Zeuge sein Gesalbter an diesem Tage, daß ihr gar nichts in meiner Hand gefunden habt! Und sie sprachen: Er ist Zeuge!
6Und Samuel sprach zu dem Volke: Jehova ist es, der Mose und Aaron bestellt, und der eure Väter heraufgeführt hat aus dem Lande Ägypten!
7Und nun tretet her, daß ich vor Jehova mit euch rechte über alle gerechten Taten Jehovas, die er an euch und an euren Vätern getan hat.
8Als Jakob nach Ägypten gekommen war, da schrieen eure Väter zu Jehova; und Jehova sandte Mose und Aaron, und sie führten eure Väter aus Ägypten hinweg und ließen sie wohnen an diesem Orte.
9Aber sie vergaßen Jehova, ihren Gott; und er verkaufte sie in die Hand Siseras, des Heerobersten von Hazor, und in die Hand der Philister und in die Hand des Königs von Moab, und sie stritten wider sie.
10Da schrieen sie zu Jehova und sprachen: Wir haben gesündigt, daß wir Jehova verlassen und den Baalim und den Astaroth gedient haben; und nun errette uns aus der Hand unserer Feinde, so wollen wir dir dienen!
11Und Jehova sandte Jerub-Baal und Bedan und Jephtha und Samuel, und er errettete euch aus der Hand eurer Feinde ringsum; und ihr wohntet in Sicherheit.
12Als ihr aber sahet, daß Nahas, der König der Kinder Ammon, wider euch kam, sprachet ihr zu mir: Nein, sondern ein König soll über uns regieren! da doch Jehova, euer Gott, euer König war.
13Und nun siehe, da ist der König, den ihr erwählt, den ihr begehrt habt; und siehe, Jehova hat einen König über euch gesetzt.
14Wenn ihr nur Jehova fürchtet und ihm dienet und auf seine Stimme höret und gegen den Befehl Jehovas nicht widerspenstig seid, und sowohl ihr als auch der König, der über euch regiert, Jehova, eurem Gott, nachfolget!
15Wenn ihr aber nicht auf die Stimme Jehovas höret und gegen den Befehl Jehovas widerspenstig seid, so wird die Hand Jehovas wider euch sein, wie wider eure Väter.
16Auch jetzt tretet her und sehet diese große Sache, die Jehova vor euren Augen tun wird.
17Ist nicht jetzt die Weizenernte? Ich will zu Jehova rufen, und er wird Donner und Regen geben; und ihr sollt erkennen und sehen, daß das Böse, das ihr getan habt, groß ist in den Augen Jehovas, einen König für euch zu begehren.
18Und Samuel rief zu Jehova, und Jehova gab Donner und Regen an jenem Tage. Da fürchtete sich das ganze Volk sehr vor Jehova und vor Samuel.
19Und das ganze Volk sprach zu Samuel: Bitte Jehova, deinen Gott, für deine Knechte, daß wir nicht sterben! Denn zu allen unseren Sünden haben wir das Böse hinzugefügt, einen König für uns zu begehren.
20Und Samuel sprach zu dem Volke: Fürchtet euch nicht! Ihr habt zwar all dieses Böse getan; nur weichet nicht ab von der Nachfolge Jehovas und dienet Jehova mit eurem ganzen Herzen;
21und weichet nicht ab, denn ihr würdet den Nichtigen nachgehen, die nichts nützen und nicht erretten, denn sie sind nichtig.
22Denn Jehova wird um seines großen Namens willen sein Volk nicht verlassen; denn es hat Jehova gefallen, euch sich zum Volke zu machen.
23Auch ich fern sei es von mir, daß ich gegen Jehova sündigen, daß ich ablassen sollte, für euch zu bitten; sondern ich werde euch den guten und richtigen Weg lehren.
24Nur fürchtet Jehova, und dienet ihm in Wahrheit mit eurem ganzen Herzen; denn sehet, welch große Dinge er an euch getan hat!
25Wenn ihr aber dennoch übeltut, so werdet sowohl ihr als auch euer König weggerafft werden.

1Y DIJO Samuel á todo Israel: He aquí, yo he oído vuestra voz en todas las cosas que me habéis dicho, y os he puesto rey.
2Ahora pues, he aquí vuestro rey va delante de vosotros. Yo soy ya viejo y cano: mas mis hijos están con vosotros, y yo he andado delante de vosotros desde mi mocedad hasta este día.
3Aquí estoy; atestiguad contra mí delante de Jehová y delante de su ungido, si he tomado el buey de alguno, ó si he tomado el asno de alguno, ó si he calumniado á alguien, ó si he agraviado á alguno, ó si de alguien he tomado cohecho por el cual haya cubierto mis ojos: y os satisfaré.
4Entonces dijeron: Nunca nos has calumniado, ni agraviado, ni has tomado algo de mano de ningún hombre.
5Y él les dijo: Jehová es testigo contra vosotros, y su ungido también es testigo en este día, que no habéis hallado en mi mano cosa ninguna. Y ellos respondieron: Así es.
6Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: Jehová es quien hizo á Moisés y á Aarón, y que sacó á vuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto.
7Ahora pues, aguardad, y yo os haré cargo delante de Jehová de todas las justicias de Jehová, que ha hecho con vosotros y con vuestros padres.
8Después que Jacob hubo entrado en Egipto y vuestros padres clamaron á Jehová, Jehová envió á Moisés y á Aarón, los cuales sacaron á vuestros padres de Egipto, y los hicieron habitar en este lugar.
9Y olvidaron á Jehová su Dios, y él los vendió en la mano de Sísara capitán del ejército de Asor, y en la mano de los Filisteos, y en la mano del rey de Moab, los cuales les hicieron guerra.
10Y ellos clamaron á Jehová, y dijeron: Pecamos, que hemos dejado á Jehová, y hemos servido á los Baales y á Astaroth: líbranos pues ahora de la mano de nuestros enemigos, y te serviremos.
11Entonces Jehová envió á Jerobaal, y á Bedán, y á Jephté, y á Samuel, y os libró de mano de vuestros enemigos alrededor, y habitasteis seguros.
12Y habiendo visto que Naas rey de lo hijos de Ammón venía contra vosotros, me dijisteis: No, sino rey reinará sobre nosotros; siendo vuestro rey Jehová vuestro Dios.
13Ahora pues, ved aquí vuestro rey que habéis elegido, el cual pedisteis; ya veis que Jehová ha puesto sobre vosotros rey.
14Si temiereis á Jehová y le sirviereis, y oyereis su voz, y no fuereis rebeldes á la palabra de Jehová, así vosotros como el rey que reina sobre vosotros, seréis en pos de Jehová vuestro Dios.
15Mas si no oyereis la voz de Jehová, y si fuereis rebeldes á las palabras de Jehová, la mano de Jehová será contra vosotros como contra vuestros padres.
16Esperad aún ahora, y mirad esta gran cosa que Jehová hará delante de vuestros ojos.
17¿No es ahora la siega de los trigos? Yo clamaré á Jehová, y él dará truenos y aguas; para que conozcáis y veáis que es grande vuestra maldad que habéis hecho en los ojos de Jehová, pidiéndoos rey.
18Y Samuel clamó á Jehová; y Jehová dió truenos y aguas en aquel día; y todo el pueblo temió en gran manera á Jehová y á Samuel.
19Entonces dijo todo el pueblo á Samuel: Ruega por tus siervos á Jehová tu Dios, que no muramos: porque á todos nuestros pecados hemos añadido este mal de pedir rey para nosotros.
20Y Samuel respondió al pueblo: No temáis: vosotros habéis cometido todo este mal; mas con todo eso no os apartéis de en pos de Jehová, sino servid á Jehová con todo vuestro corazón:
21No os apartéis en pos de las vanidades, que no aprovechan ni libran, porque son vanidades.
22Pues Jehová no desamparará á su pueblo por su grande nombre; porque Jehová ha querido haceros pueblo suyo.
23Así que, lejos sea de mí que peque yo contra Jehová cesando de rogar por vosotros; antes yo os enseñaré por el camino bueno y derecho.
24Solamente temed á Jehová, y servidle de verdad con todo vuestro corazón, porque considerad cuán grandes cosas ha hecho con vosotros.
25Mas si perseverareis en hacer mal, vosotros y vuestro rey pereceréis.

1And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.
2And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.
3Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
4And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man’s hand.
5And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.
6And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
7Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
8When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
9And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
10And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.
11And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.
12And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.
13Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.
14If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:
15But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.
16Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
17Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
18So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
19And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.
20And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
21And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
22For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.
23Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
24Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
25But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

1Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.
2Now, behold, the king walks before you. I am old and gray-headed. Behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth to this day.
3Here I am. Witness against me before the LORD and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Of whose hand have I taken a bribe to make me blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”
4They said, “You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything from anyone’s hand.”
5He said to them, “The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness today, that you have not found anything in my hand.” They said, “He is witness.”
6Samuel said to the people, “It is the LORD who appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
7Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before the LORD concerning all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
8“When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.

15But if you will not listen to the LORD’s voice, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then the LORD’s hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers.
16“Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
17Isn’t it wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD, that he may send thunder and rain; and you will know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the LORD’s sight, in asking for a king.”
18So Samuel called to the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day. Then all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
19All the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.”
20Samuel said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet don’t turn away from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
21Don’t turn away to go after vain things which can’t profit or deliver, for they are vain.
22For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you a people for himself.
23Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.
24Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
25But if you keep doing evil, you will be consumed, both you and your king.”
