Un día más tarde el príncipe Jonatán le dijo a su escudero: «Vamos, crucemos el valle hasta la guarnición de los filisteos». Pero no le avisó a su padre que salía.
Y UN día aconteció, que Jonathán hijo de Saúl dijo á su criado que le traía las armas: Ven, y pasemos á la guarnición de los Filisteos, que está á aquel lado. Y no lo hizo saber á su padre.
Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.
Now it happened on a day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come! Let’s go over to the Philistines’ garrison that is on the other side.” But he didn’t tell his father.
Saúl y sus seiscientos hombres estaban acampados en las afueras de Guibeá debajo de un granado que hay en Migrón.

Para llegar a la guarnición filistea, Jonatán tuvo que ir por un estrecho paso que estaba entre dos riscos conocidos como Bosés y Sene.
Y entre los pasos por donde Jonathán procuraba pasar á la guarnición de los Filisteos, había un peñasco agudo de la una parte, y otro de la otra parte; el uno se llamaba Boses y el otro Sene:
And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines’ garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

El risco del norte estaba frente a Micmás y el del sur frente a Guibeá.

―Vamos a donde están esos paganos —dijo Jonatán a su escudero—. Quizás el Señor haga algo por medio nuestro. Para él no hay diferencia en salvar con muchos o con pocos.
Dijo pues Jonathán á su criado que le traía las armas: Ven, pasemos á la guarnición de estos incircuncisos: quizá hará Jehová por nosotros; que no es difícil á Jehová salvar con multitud ó con poco número.
And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.

―Bien —contestó el joven—. Haz lo que creas conveniente. Cuenta conmigo en cualquier cosa que decidas hacer.
Y su paje de armas le respondió: Haz todo lo que tienes en tu corazón: ve, que aquí estoy contigo á tu voluntad.
And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.
His armor bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go, and behold, I am with you according to your heart.”
―¡Estupendo! Esto es lo que haremos —le respondió Jonatán—.
Y Jonathán dijo: He aquí, nosotros pasaremos á los hombres, y nos mostraremos á ellos.
Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.
Then Jonathan said, “Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.
Cuando ellos nos vean, si nos dicen: “¡Quietos, no se muevan!”, nos detendremos y los esperaremos.
Si nos dijeren así: Esperad hasta que lleguemos á vosotros; entonces nos estaremos en nuestro lugar, y no subiremos á ellos.
If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.
If they say this to us, ‘Wait until we come to you!’ then we will stand still in our place and will not go up to them.
Pero si dicen: “Vengan y peleen”, eso haremos. Porque esa será la señal de Dios de que él nos ayudará a derrotarlos.
Mas si nos dijeren así: Subid á nosotros: entonces subiremos, porque Jehová los ha entregado en nuestras manos: y esto nos será por señal.
But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.

Cuando los filisteos los vieron acercarse, gritaron: ―Los israelitas están saliendo de sus cuevas.
Mostráronse pues ambos á la guarnición de los Filisteos, y los Filisteos dijeron: He aquí los Hebreos, que salen de las cavernas en que se habían escondido.
And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

Entonces le gritaron a Jonatán y a su escudero: ―Vengan acá pues queremos decirles algo. ―Ven, sígueme —dijo Jonatán a su escudero—, porque el Señor nos ayudará a derrotarlos.
Y los hombres de la guarnición respondieron á Jonathán y á su paje de armas, y dijeron: Subid á nosotros, y os haremos saber una cosa. Entonces Jonathán dijo á su paje de armas: Sube tras mí, que Jehová los ha entregado en la mano de Israel.
And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.

Subieron afirmándose con las manos y rodillas. Y a los filisteos que caían delante de Jonatán, el escudero los remataba.
Y subió Jonathán trepando con sus manos y sus pies, y tras él su paje de armas; y los que caían delante de Jonathán, su paje de armas que iba tras él, los mataba.

Repentinamente cundió el pánico en todo el campamento filisteo, tanto los que estaban acampados como los que estaban en el campo abierto. Para colmo, hubo un gran terremoto que aumentó el terror.
Y hubo temblor en el real y por el campo, y entre toda la gente de la guarnición; y los que habían ido á hacer correrías, también ellos temblaron, y alborotóse la tierra: hubo pues gran consternación.
And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.

Los centinelas de Saúl en Guibeá vieron como la muchedumbre filistea comenzó a esparcirse de forma confusa en todas direcciones.

«Averígüenme quién no está aquí» —ordenó Saúl. Al pasar lista descubrieron que Jonatán y su escudero no estaban.
Entonces Saúl dijo al pueblo que tenía consigo: Reconoced luego, y mirad quién haya ido de los nuestros. Y reconocido que hubieron, hallaron que faltaban Jonathán y su paje de armas.
Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.

«Trae acá el cofre de Dios» —ordenó Saúl a Abías, porque el cofre estaba entre el pueblo de Israel en aquel tiempo.
Y Saúl dijo á Achîas: Trae el arca de Dios. Porque el arca de Dios estaba entonces con los hijos de Israel.
And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.

And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.
While Saul talked to the priest, the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased; and Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand!”
Entonces Saúl y sus seiscientos hombres salieron a la batalla y encontraron que los filisteos se estaban matando unos a otros, pues había una terrible confusión en todas partes.
Y juntando Saúl todo el pueblo que con él estaba, vinieron hasta el lugar de la batalla: y he aquí que la espada de cada uno era vuelta contra su compañero, y la mortandad era grande.
And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man’s sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.

Y los hebreos que se habían unido a los filisteos se rebelaron y se unieron a los israelitas capitaneados por Saúl y Jonatán.

Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.

Finalmente, los israelitas que estaban ocultos en las colinas se unieron en la persecución cuando vieron que los filisteos huían.
Asimismo todos los Israelitas que se habían escondido en el monte de Ephraim, oyendo que los Filisteos huían, ellos también los persiguieron en aquella batalla.
Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.

De esta manera el Señor salvó a Israel aquel día y la batalla continuó hasta más allá de Bet Avén.

Aquel día Saúl había declarado: «Caiga una maldición sobre cualquiera que coma algo antes de la tarde, antes que yo haya completado la venganza sobre mis enemigos».
Pero los hombres de Israel fueron puestos en apuro aquel día; porque Saúl había conjurado al pueblo, diciendo: Cualquiera que comiere pan hasta la tarde, hasta que haya tomado venganza de mis enemigos, sea maldito. Y todo el pueblo no había gustado pan.
And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.

And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.

porque todos tuvieron miedo de la maldición de Saúl.
Entró pues el pueblo en el bosque, y he aquí que la miel corría; mas ninguno hubo que llegase la mano á su boca: porque el pueblo temía el juramento.
And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.
When the people had come to the forest, behold, honey was dripping, but no one put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.
Sin embargo, Jonatán, que no había oído la orden de su padre, sacó miel de un panal con un palo, y cuando terminó de comerla se sintió con más fuerzas.
Empero Jonathán no había oído cuando su padre conjuró al pueblo, y alargó la punta de una vara que traía en su mano, y mojóla en un panal de miel, y llegó su mano á su boca; y sus ojos fueron aclarados.
But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.
But Jonathan didn’t hear when his father commanded the people with the oath. Therefore he put out the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes brightened.
Entonces alguien le dijo que su padre había lanzado una maldición sobre todo aquel que comiera aquel día, y a causa de eso todos estaban cansados y débiles.
Entonces habló uno del pueblo, diciendo: Tu padre ha conjurado expresamente al pueblo, diciendo: Maldito sea el hombre que comiere hoy manjar. Y el pueblo desfallecía.
Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were faint.
Then one of the people answered, and said, “Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food today.’” So the people were faint.
«¡A quién se le ocurre! —exclamó Jonatán—. Un mandamiento de este tipo solamente nos perjudica. Me siento mejor ahora que he comido este poco de miel.
Y respondió Jonathán: Mi padre ha turbado el país. Ved ahora cómo han sido aclarados mis ojos, por haber gustado un poco de esta miel:
Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
Then Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.
Si el pueblo hubiera podido comer el alimento hallado entre nuestros enemigos, quién sabe cuanto mayor daño hubiéramos hecho a los filisteos».
¿Cuánto más si el pueblo hubiera hoy comido del despojo de sus enemigos que halló? ¿no se habría hecho ahora mayor estrago en los Filisteos?
How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
How much more, if perhaps the people had eaten freely today of the plunder of their enemies which they found? For now there has been no great slaughter among the Philistines.”
Sin embargo, hambrientos como estaban, persiguieron y mataron a los filisteos desde Micmás hasta Ayalón, debilitándose cada vez más.
E hirieron aquel día á los Filisteos desde Michmas hasta Ajalón: mas el pueblo se cansó mucho.
And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.

Y aquella tarde se lanzaron sobre los despojos de la batalla y mataron ovejas, bueyes y cabritos y comieron carne sin desangrar.
Tornóse por tanto el pueblo al despojo, y tomaron ovejas y vacas y becerros, y matáronlos en tierra, y el pueblo comió con sangre.
And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.

Alguien le dijo a Saúl lo que estaba ocurriendo, y que el pueblo pecaba contra el Señor comiendo sangre. ―Es una ofensa contra el Señor —dijo Saúl—. Tráiganme acá una piedra grande,
Y dándole de ello aviso á Saúl, dijéronle: El pueblo peca contra Jehová comiendo con sangre. Y él dijo: Vosotros habéis prevaricado; rodadme ahora acá una grande piedra.
Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.
Then they told Saul, saying, “Behold, the people are sinning against the LORD, in that they eat meat with the blood.” He said, “You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me today!”
y vayan a decir al pueblo que traigan bueyes y ovejas para degollarlos y derramar su sangre aquí, a fin de que no pequen contra el Señor comiendo carne sin desangrar. Y así lo hicieron al caer la noche.
Y Saúl tornó á decir: Esparcíos por el pueblo, y decidles que me traigan cada uno su vaca, y cada cual su oveja, y degolladlos aquí, y comed; y no pecaréis contra Jehová comiendo con sangre. Y trajo todo el pueblo cada cual por su mano su vaca aquella noche, y degollaron allí.
And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.
Saul said, “Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them, ‘Every man bring me here his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and don’t sin against the LORD in eating meat with the blood.’” All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.
Y Saúl edificó un altar al Señor, el primero que levantaba.
Y edificó Saúl altar á Jehová, el cual altar fué el primero que edificó á Jehová.
And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.

Después dijo: ―Sigamos a los filisteos toda la noche y destruyámoslos hasta que no quede ninguno. ―Haz lo que creas más conveniente —contestaron sus hombres. Pero el sacerdote dijo: ―Preguntémosle primero al Señor.
Y dijo Saúl: Descendamos de noche contra los Filisteos, y los saquearemos hasta la mañana, y no dejaremos de ellos ninguno. Y ellos dijeron: Haz lo que bien te pareciere. Dijo luego el sacerdote: Lleguémonos aquí á Dios.
And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.
Saul said, “Let’s go down after the Philistines by night, and take plunder among them until the morning light. Let’s not leave a man of them.” They said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” Then the priest said, “Let’s draw near here to God.”
Saúl consultó a Dios: ―¿Iremos tras los filisteos? ¿Nos ayudarás a derrotarlos? Pero esta vez el Señor no respondió.
Y Saúl consultó á Dios: ¿Descenderé tras los Filisteos? ¿los entregarás en mano de Israel? Mas Jehová no le dió respuesta aquel día.
And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.
Saul asked counsel of God: “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.
Entonces Saúl les dijo a sus generales: ―Algo anda mal. Debemos descubrir qué pecado se ha cometido hoy.
Entonces dijo Saúl: Llegaos acá todos los principales del pueblo; y sabed y mirad por quién ha sido hoy este pecado;
And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.
Saul said, “Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people, and know and see in whom this sin has been today.
Juro por el nombre del Señor que salvó a Israel, que aunque el pecador sea mi hijo Jonatán, morirá. Nadie de la tropa le contestó.
Porque vive Jehová, que salva á Israel, que si fuere en mi hijo Jonathán, el morirá de cierto. Y no hubo en todo el pueblo quien le respondiese.
For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.
For as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.
―Jonatán y yo nos situaremos de un lado —dijo Saúl— y ustedes al otro lado. El pueblo aceptó,
Dijo luego á todo Israel: Vosotros estaréis á un lado, y yo y Jonathán mi hijo estaremos á otro lado. Y el pueblo respondió á Saúl: Haz lo que bien te pareciere.
Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.
Then he said to all Israel, “You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” The people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”
y Saúl añadió: ―Oh Señor Dios de Israel, ¿por qué no has respondido a mis preguntas? ¿Somos Jonatán y yo los culpables, o el pecado está en los demás? Oh Señor Dios, muéstranos quién es el culpable. Y fueron señalados Jonatán y Saúl como culpables, y el pueblo fue declarado inocente.
Entonces dijo Saúl á Jehová Dios de Israel: Da perfección. Y fueron tomados Jonathán y Saúl, y el pueblo salió libre.
Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.
Therefore Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, “Show the right.” Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people escaped.

―Dime, ¿qué has hecho? —preguntó Saúl a Jonatán. ―Comí miel —reconoció Jonatán—. Pero fue sólo un poco que saqué con la punta de un palo. ¿Debo morir?
Entonces Saúl dijo á Jonathán: Declárame qué has hecho. Y Jonathán se lo declaró, y dijo: Cierto que gusté con la punta de la vara que traía en mi mano, un poco de miel: ¿y he aquí he de morir?
Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.
Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done!” Jonathan told him, and said, “I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and behold, I must die.”
―Sí, Jonatán —dijo Saúl—, deberás morir. Que Dios me mate si no eres ejecutado por esto.
Y Saúl respondió: Así me haga Dios y así me añada, que sin duda morirás, Jonathán.
And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.

Pero los soldados se opusieron: ―¿Jonatán, que salvó hoy a Israel, morirá? ¡De ninguna manera! Juramos por el Señor que ni un cabello de su cabeza será tocado, porque él ha obrado al lado de Dios hoy día. Así el pueblo salvó a Jonatán de la muerte.
Mas el pueblo dijo á Saúl: ¿Ha pues de morir Jonathán, el que ha hecho esta salud grande en Israel? No será así. Vive Jehová, que no ha de caer un cabello de su cabeza en tierra, pues que ha obrado hoy con Dios. Así libró el pueblo á Jonathán, para que no muriese.
And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
The people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God today!” So the people rescued Jonathan, so he didn’t die.
Luego Saúl no fue en persecución de los filisteos y estos regresaron a su tierra.
Y Saúl dejó de seguir á los Filisteos; y los Filisteos se fueron á su lugar.

So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them.

Hizo grandes cosas. Venció a los amalecitas, y salvó a Israel de todos los que habían sido sus opresores.
Y reunió un ejército, é hirió á Amalec, y libró á Israel de mano de los que le robaban.
And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.

Saúl tuvo tres hijos, Jonatán, Isví y Malquisúa; y dos hijas, Merab, la mayor, y Mical.
Y los hijos de Saúl fueron Jonathán, Isui, y Melchi-sua. Y los nombres de sus dos hijas eran, el nombre de la mayor, Merab, y el de la menor, Michâl.
Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchi-shua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:

And the name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.

Y la guerra fué fuerte contra los Filisteos todo el tiempo de Saúl; y á cualquiera que Saúl veía hombre valiente y hombre de esfuerzo, juntábale consigo.
