Da boten die Philister ihre Heere zum Kriege auf, sammelten sich bei Socho, das zu Juda gehört, und schlugen ein Lager zwischen Socho und Aseka bei Ephes-Dammim auf.

Y LOS Filisteos juntaron sus ejércitos para la guerra, y congregáronse en Sochô, que es de Judá, y asentaron el campo entre Sochô y Azeca, en Ephes-dammim.

Saul aber und die Israeliten sammelten sich und bezogen ein Lager im Terebinthental und rüsteten sich zum Kampf gegen die Philister;

An den Beinen trug er eherne Schienen und zwischen den Schultern einen ehernen Wurfspieß;

Er stellte sich hin und rief den in Reihen stehenden Israeliten die Worte zu: »Warum zieht ihr aus, euch in Schlachtordnung aufzustellen? Bin ich nicht da, der Philister, und ihr, die Knechte Sauls? Wählt euch einen Mann aus, der komme zu mir herab!

Vermag er mich im Kampfe zu bestehen und erschlägt er mich, so wollen wir euch untertan sein; bin aber ich ihm überlegen und erschlage ich ihn, so sollt ihr uns untertan sein und müßt uns dienen!«

Dann fügte der Philister noch hinzu: »Heute habe ich den in Reihen stehenden Israeliten Hohn geboten: stellt mir einen Mann, daß wir miteinander kämpfen!«

David aber war der Sohn jenes Ephrathiten aus Bethlehem in Juda, der Isai hieß und acht Söhne hatte und zur Zeit Sauls schon ein älterer, in den Jahren vorgerückter Mann war.

David aber war der jüngste. Da die drei ältesten unter Saul in den Krieg gezogen waren,

ging David ab und zu von Sauls Hofe heim, um in Bethlehem das Kleinvieh seines Vaters zu hüten.

diese zehn frischen Käse aber nimm für den Hauptmann der Tausendschaft mit und erkundige dich nach dem Befinden deiner Brüder und laß dir ein Pfand von ihnen mitgeben!«

Llevarás asimismo estos diez quesos de leche al capitán, y cuida de ver si tus hermanos están buenos, y toma prendas de ellos.

Da machte sich David am andern Morgen früh reisefertig, überließ das Kleinvieh einem Hüter, packte die Lebensmittel ein und begab sich auf den Weg, wie Isai ihm befohlen hatte. Er kam zur Wagenburg, als das Heer gerade in Schlachtordnung ausrückte und man das Kriegsgeschrei erhob;

Levantóse pues David de mañana, y dejando las ovejas al cuidado de un guarda, fuése con su carga, como Isaí le había mandado; y llegó al atrincheramiento del ejército, el cual había salido en ordenanza, y tocaba alarma para la pelea.

And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.

Während er sich noch mit ihnen besprach, trat der Vorkämpfer – er hieß Goliath und war ein Philister aus Gath – aus den Reihen der Philister hervor und führte dieselben Reden wie früher, so daß David es hörte;

Da sagte einer von den Israeliten: »Habt ihr diesen Mann gesehen, der da heraufkommt? Ja, um Israel zu verhöhnen, tritt er auf! Und wer ihn erschlägt, den will der König mit großem Reichtum belohnen und will ihm seine Tochter geben und seines Vaters Haus steuerfrei in Israel machen!«

And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.

The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”

Da fragte David die Männer, die bei ihm standen: »Wie soll der Mann belohnt werden, der diesen Philister da erschlägt und Israel von der Schande befreit? Wer ist denn dieser Philister, dieser Heide, daß er die Schlachtreihen des lebendigen Gottes beschimpfen darf?«

Entonces habló David á los que junto á él estaban, diciendo: ¿Qué harán al hombre que venciere á este Filisteo, y quitare el oprobio de Israel? Porque ¿quién es este Filisteo incircunciso, para que provoque á los escuadrones del Dios viviente?

And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

Da wiederholten ihm die Leute die frühere Mitteilung: »So und so wird man den Mann belohnen, der ihn erschlägt!«

Y el pueblo le respondió las mismas palabras, diciendo: Así se hará al hombre que lo venciere.

And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.

Als nun sein ältester Bruder Eliab hörte, wie er sich mit den Männern unterhielt, geriet er in Zorn über David und rief aus: »Wozu bist du eigentlich hergekommen, und wem hast du die paar Schafe dort in der Steppe überlassen? Ich kenne deinen vorwitzigen und boshaften Sinn wohl: du bist nur hergekommen, um dir den Krieg anzusehen!«

Y oyéndole hablar Eliab su hermano mayor con aquellos hombres, Eliab se encendió en ira contra David, y dijo: ¿Para qué has descendido acá? ¿y á quién has dejado aquellas pocas ovejas en el desierto? Yo conozco tu soberbia y la malicia de tu corazón, que para ver la batalla has venido.

And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”

David entgegnete: »Nun, was habe ich denn jetzt getan? Es war ja nur eine Frage!«

Y David respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora? Estas, ¿no son palabras?

And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”

Damit wandte er sich von ihm ab, einem andern zu, und wiederholte seine vorige Frage, und die Leute gaben ihm dieselbe Auskunft wie zuvor.

Y apartándose de él hacia otros, habló lo mismo; y respondiéronle los del pueblo como primero.

And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

Als man nun hörte, wie David sich ausgesprochen hatte, hinterbrachte man es dem Saul, und dieser ließ ihn zu sich kommen.

Y fueron oídas las palabras que David había dicho, las cuales como refiriesen delante de Saúl, él lo hizo venir.

And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.

Da sagte David zu Saul: »Kein Mensch braucht um den da den Mut zu verlieren! Dein Knecht will hingehen und mit diesem Philister kämpfen.«

Y dijo David á Saúl: No desmaye ninguno á causa de él; tu siervo irá y peleará con este Filisteo.

And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

Saul aber antwortete ihm: »Du kannst diesem Philister nicht entgegentreten, um mit ihm zu kämpfen; denn du bist noch ein Jüngling, er aber ist ein Kriegsmann von Jugend auf!«

Y dijo Saúl á David: No podrás tú ir contra aquel Filisteo, para pelear con él; porque tú eres mozo, y él un hombre de guerra desde su juventud.

And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”

Da entgegnete David dem Saul: »Dein Knecht hat seinem Vater das Kleinvieh gehütet; wenn da ein Löwe oder ein Bär kam und ein Stück aus der Herde wegtrug,

Y David respondió á Saúl: Tu siervo era pastor en las ovejas de su padre, y venía un león, ó un oso, y tomaba algún cordero de la manada,

And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,

so lief ich ihm nach und erschlug ihn und riß es ihm aus dem Rachen; leistete er mir aber Widerstand, so packte ich ihn am Bart und schlug ihn tot.

Y salía yo tras él, y heríalo, y librábale de su boca: y si se levantaba contra mí, yo le echaba mano de la quijada, y lo hería y mataba.

And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

Löwen so gut wie Bären hat dein Knecht erschlagen, und diesem Philister, diesem Heiden, soll es ebenso ergehen wie jenen allen; denn er hat die Schlachtreihen des lebendigen Gottes verhöhnt!«

Fuese león, fuese oso, tu siervo lo mataba; pues este Filisteo incircunciso será como uno de ellos, porque ha provocado al ejército del Dios viviente.

Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”

Dann fuhr David fort: »Der HERR, der mich aus den Krallen der Löwen und aus den Klauen der Bären errettet hat, der wird mich auch aus der Hand dieses Philisters erretten.« Da sagte Saul zu David: »So gehe hin! Der HERR wird mit dir sein!«

Y añadió David: Jehová que me ha librado de las garras del león y de las garras del oso, él también me librará de la mano de este Filisteo. Y dijo Saúl á David: Ve, y Jehová sea contigo.

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

David said, “The LORD, who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go! The LORD will be with you.”

Hierauf legte Saul dem David seine Rüstung an: er setzte ihm einen ehernen Helm aufs Haupt und zog ihm einen Panzer an;

Y Saúl vistió á David de sus ropas, y puso sobre su cabeza un almete de acero, y armóle de coraza.

And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.

weiter mußte David Sauls Schwert über seinen Waffenrock gürten und bemühte sich dann zu gehen; denn er hatte es noch nie versucht. Aber er sagte zu Saul: »Ich kann darin nicht gehen, denn ich bin nicht daran gewöhnt.« So legte David denn alles wieder ab,

Y ciñó David su espada sobre sus vestidos, y probó á andar, porque nunca había probado. Y dijo David á Saúl: Yo no puedo andar con esto, porque nunca lo practiqué. Y echando de sí David aquellas cosas,

And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

David strapped his sword on his clothing and he tried to move, for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these, for I have not tested them.” Then David took them off.

nahm nur seinen Stecken in die Hand, suchte sich aus dem Bach fünf glatte Kieselsteine aus und tat sie in die Hirtentasche, die ihm als Schleudertasche diente; dann nahm er seine Schleuder in die Hand und ging auf den Philister los.

Tomó su cayado en su mano, y escogióse cinco piedras lisas del arroyo, y púsolas en el saco pastoril y en el zurrón que traía, y con su honda en su mano vase hacia el Filisteo.

And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

Der Philister aber kam immer näher an David heran, während sein Schildträger vor ihm herschritt.

Als nun der Philister hinblickte und David sah, verachtete er ihn, weil er noch so jung war, ein bräunlicher Jüngling von schmuckem Aussehen.

Y como el Filisteo miró y vió á David túvole en poco; porque era mancebo, y rubio, y de hermoso parecer.

And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

Daher rief der Philister dem David zu: »Bin ich etwa ein Hund, daß du mit Stöcken zu mir kommst?« Hierauf fluchte der Philister dem David bei seinem Gott

Y dijo el Filisteo á David: ¿Soy yo perro para que vengas á mí con palos? Y maldijo á David por sus dioses.

And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

und rief dem David zu: »Komm nur her zu mir, damit ich dein Fleisch den Vögeln des Himmels und den Tieren des Feldes gebe!«

Dijo luego el Filisteo á David: Ven á mí, y daré tu carne á las aves del cielo, y á las bestias del campo.

And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

Am heutigen Tage wird dich der HERR in meine Hand fallen lassen, daß ich dich erschlage und dir den Kopf abhaue; und (deinen Leichnam und) die Leichen des Philisterheeres werde ich noch heute den Vögeln des Himmels und den wilden Tieren des Landes übergeben, damit alle Welt erkennt, daß Israel einen Gott hat!
