Davi era o ajudante especial de Saul, e tudo que realizava era feito com habilidade. Por isso Saul colocou Davi como comandante de seus soldados. Isso agradou a todo o povo, inclusive aos servos de Saul.

Dessa ocasião em diante o rei Saul começou a ter ciúmes de Davi.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.

e de repente atirou-a contra Davi, dizendo: “Encravarei Davi na parede com a lança”. Mas Davi saltou para o lado e escapou. Isso aconteceu duas vezes.

Mas Davi respondeu a Saul: “Quem sou eu, e quem é a minha família e o grupo de famílias de meu pai em Israel, para que eu me torne genro do rei?”

Mas quando chegou o tempo de Saul dar a sua filha Merabe em casamento a Davi, ele a deu a Adriel, o meolita.

Então Saul deu instruções a seus oficiais, para dizerem a Davi, em tom muito confidencial: “O rei gosta muito de você, e todos os oficiais o amam. Aceite a proposta do rei e torne-se agora o seu genro”.

And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

Quando os homens de Saul lhe contaram o que Davi disse,
Y los criados de Saúl le dieron la respuesta diciendo: Tales palabras ha dicho David.
And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

Saul lhes respondeu: “Digam a Davi que o único dote que eu quero é uma centena de filisteus mortos como vingança sobre meus inimigos”. Saul tinha em mente que Davi fosse morto em combate.
Y Saúl dijo: Decid así á David: No está el contentamiento del rey en el dote, sino en cien prepucios de Filisteos, para que sea tomada venganza de los enemigos del rey. Mas Saúl pensaba echar á David en manos de los Filisteos.
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
Saul said, “Tell David, ‘The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought he would make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
Quando recebeu o recado, Davi ficou contente por aceitar a oferta de se casar com a filha do rei. Assim, antes que terminasse o prazo,

ele e seus homens saíram e mataram duzentos filisteus, e trouxeram a prova ao rei Saul, para que se tornasse seu genro. Então Saul deu Mical por esposa a Davi.
Levantóse David, y partióse con su gente, é hirió doscientos hombres de los Filisteos; y trajo David los prepucios de ellos, y entregáronlos todos al rey, para que él fuese hecho yerno del rey. Y Saúl le dió á su hija Michâl por mujer.
Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

Quando o rei reconheceu o quanto Davi andava em comunhão com o Senhor e que a sua filha Mical o amava,

teve ainda maior medo dele. Cada dia que passava, mais Saul o odiava.
Temióse más de David; y fué Saúl enemigo de David todos los días.

Sempre que o exército filisteu atacava, Davi conseguia mais vitórias contra eles do que o restante dos oficiais de Saul. Assim, o nome de Davi ficou muito famoso por toda parte.
Y salían los príncipes de los Filisteos; y como ellos salían, portábase David más prudentemente que todos los siervos de Saúl: y era su nombre muy ilustre.
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
