Hubo un hombre en la ciudad de Ramataimsofim, en las montañas de Efraín, cuyo nombre era Elcana, hijo de Jeroham, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Tohú, hijo de Suf, de la tribu de Leví, y domiciliado en la de Efraín.
HUBO un varón de Ramathaim de Sophim, del monte de Ephraim, que se llamaba Elcana, hijo de Jeroham, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Thohu, hijo de Suph, Ephrateo.
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

Y tenía dos mujeres, una llamada Ana, y la otra Fenenna. Fennena tenía hijos, mas Ana carecía de ellos.
Y tenía él dos mujeres; el nombre de la una era Anna, y el nombre de la otra Peninna. Y Peninna tenía hijos, mas Anna no los tenía.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

Subía este hombre desde su ciudad a Silo en los días señalados a adorar y ofrecer sacrificios al Señor de los ejércitos. Allí residían entonces los dos hijos de Helí: Ofni y Finees, sacerdotes del Señor.
Y subía aquel varón todos los años de su ciudad, á adorar y sacrificar á Jehová de los ejércitos en Silo, donde estaban dos hijos de Eli, Ophni y Phinees, sacerdotes de Jehová.
And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

Venido uno de dichos días solemnes, ofreció Elcana su sacrificio, y distribuyó después lo que le correspondía de la víctima entre su mujer Fenenna y todos sus hijos e hijas, dándoles la porción de ella.
Y cuando venía el día, Elcana sacrificaba, y daba á Peninna su mujer, y á todos sus hijos y á todas sus hijas, á cada uno su parte.
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

Pero a Ana, que no tenía hijos, le dio una sola porción, entristecido porque la amaba, aunque el Señor la había hecho estéril.
Mas á Anna daba una parte escogida; porque amaba á Anna, aunque Jehová había cerrado su matriz.
But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
but he gave a double portion to Hannah, for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had shut up her womb.
Además Fenenna, su rival, la mortificaba también y angustiaba en gran manera, en tanto grado, que la echaba en rostro el que el Señor la había hecho estéril.
Y su competidora la irritaba, enojándola y entristeciéndola, porque Jehová había cerrado su matriz.
And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
Y así lo hacía todos los años cuando, llegado el tiempo, subían al templo del Señor; y de este modo la zahería. Con esto Ana se ponía a llorar, y no probaba la comida.
Y así hacía cada año: cuando subía á la casa de Jehová, enojaba así á la otra; por lo cual ella lloraba, y no comía.
And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
So year by year, when she went up to the LORD’s house, her rival provoked her. Therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.
Le dijo, pues, Elcana, su marido: Ana, ¿por qué lloras? ¿cómo es que no comes?, ¿y por qué se aflige así tu corazón? ¿acaso no soy yo para ti mejor que diez hijos que tuvieses?
Y Elcana su marido le dijo: Anna, ¿por qué lloras? ¿y por qué no comes? ¿y por qué está afligido tu corazón? ¿No te soy yo mejor que diez hijos?
Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
Y después de haber comido y bebido en Silo, se levantó Ana, y estando el sumo sacerdote Helí sentado en su silla, o audiencia, delante de la puerta del templo o Tabernáculo del Señor,
Y levantóse Anna después que hubo comido y bebido en Silo; y mientras el sacerdote Eli estaba sentado en una silla junto á un pilar del templo de Jehová,
So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of the LORD’s temple.
vino Ana con un corazón lleno de amargura, y oró al Señor derramando copiosas lágrimas,
Ella con amargura de alma oró á Jehová, y lloró abundantemente.
And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly.
e hizo voto diciendo: Señor Dios de los ejércitos, si te dignares volver los ojos para mirar la aflicción de tu sierva, y te acordares de mí, y no olvidándote de tu esclava, dieres a tu sierva un hijo varón, lo consagraré al Señor por todos los días de su vida, y no pasará jamás navaja por su cabeza.
E hizo voto, diciendo: Jehová de los ejércitos, si te dignares mirar la aflicción de tu sierva, y te acordares de mí, y no te olvidares de tu sierva, mas dieres á tu sierva un hijo varón, yo lo dedicaré á Jehová todos los días de su vida, y no subirá navaja sobre su cabeza.
And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
She vowed a vow, and said, “LORD of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”
Como repitiese muchas veces sus ruegos delante del Señor, Helí estuvo observando el movimiento de sus labios;
Y fué que como ella orase largamente delante de Jehová, Eli estaba observando la boca de ella.
And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.
As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli saw her mouth.
porque Ana hablaba solo en su corazón, de manera que únicamente movía los labios; pero no se le oía ni siquiera una palabra. Y así Helí la tuvo por ebria,

Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

y le dijo: ¿Hasta cuando durará tu embriaguez? Vete a digerir un poco el vino de que estás llena.
Entonces le dijo Eli: ¿Hasta cuándo estarás borracha?; digiere tu vino.
And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine!”
Le respondió Ana: No es, mi señor, lo que decís; la verdad es que yo soy una mujer afligidísima; y no es que haya bebido vino, ni cosa que pueda embriagar, sino que estaba derramando mi corazón en la presencia del Señor.
Y Anna le respondió, diciendo: No, señor mío: mas yo soy una mujer trabajada de espíritu: no he bebido vino ni sidra, sino que he derramado mi alma delante de Jehová.
And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have not been drinking wine or strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD.
No tengas a tu sierva por alguna de las hijas licenciosas de Belial; porque sola la vehemencia de mi dolor y aflicción es la que me ha hecho hablar así hasta ahora.
No tengas á tu sierva por una mujer impía: porque por la magnitud de mis congojas y de mi aflicción he hablado hasta ahora.
Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
Don’t consider your servant a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”
Entonces Helí le dijo: Vete en paz, y el Dios de Israel te conceda la petición que le has hecho.
Y Eli respondió, y dijo: Ve en paz, y el Dios de Israel te otorgue la petición que le has hecho.
Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”
Le respondió Ana: ¡Ojalá tu sierva halle gracia en tus ojos! Se fue la mujer a su posada, y tomó alimento, y desde entonces ya no se vio melancólico su semblante.
Y ella dijo: Halle tu sierva gracia delante de tus ojos. Y fuése la mujer su camino, y comió, y no estuvo más triste.
And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
She said, “Let your servant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.
Por la mañana se levantaron todos, adoraron al Señor, y poniéndose en camino, regresaron a su casa en Rámata. Elcana se unió a Ana, su mujer, y el Señor se acordó de ella y de su oración.
Y levantándose de mañana, adoraron delante de Jehová, y volviéronse, y vinieron á su casa en Ramatha. Y Elcana conoció á Anna su mujer, y Jehová se acordó de ella.
And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

Luego concibió Ana, y a su tiempo parió un hijo, a quien puso por nombre Samuel, por haberlo pedido fervorosamente al Señor.
Y fué que corrido el tiempo, después de haber concebido Anna, parió un hijo, y púsole por nombre Samuel, diciendo: Por cuanto lo demandé á Jehová.
Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the LORD.”
Subió, pues, Elcana, su marido, con toda su familia a ofrecer al Señor una hostia solemne, y a cumplir su voto.
Después subió el varón Elcana, con toda su familia, á sacrificar á Jehová el sacrificio acostumbrado, y su voto.
And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

Pero Ana no fué, habiendo dicho a su marido: No iré hasta que el niño esté destetado, y le lleve yo para presentarlo al Señor, y se quede allí para siempre.
Mas Anna no subió, sino dijo á su marido: Yo no subiré hasta que el niño sea destetado; para que lo lleve y sea presentado delante de Jehová, y se quede allá para siempre.
But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
But Hannah didn’t go up, for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and stay there forever.”
Le dijo Elcana su marido: Haz lo que mejor te parezca, y quédate hasta destetarle; yo suplico al Señor que se digne perfeccionar su obra. Se quedó, pues, Ana en su casa, y dio de mamar al hijo, hasta que lo destetó;
Y Elcana su marido le respondió: Haz lo que bien te pareciere; quédate hasta que lo destetes: solamente Jehová cumpla su palabra. Y quedóse la mujer, y crió su hijo hasta que lo destetó.
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may the LORD establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son until she weaned him.
y destetado, le llevó consigo, con tres becerros y tres medios de harina y un cántaro de vino, a la casa del Señor en Silo. El niño era todavía pequeñito.
Y después que lo hubo destetado, llevólo consigo, con tres becerros, y un epha de harina, y una vasija de vino, y trájolo á la casa de Jehová en Silo: y el niño era pequeño.
And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

Y sacrificaron un becerro; y presentaron el niño a Helí,

diciendo Ana: Oyeme, Señor mío, por vida tuya: Yo soy, mi señor, aquella mujer que estuve orando al Señor delante de ti.
Y ella dijo: ¡Oh, señor mío! vive tu alma, señor mío, yo soy aquella mujer que estuvo aquí junto á ti orando á Jehová.
And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.
She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD.
Por este niño oré, y el Señor me otorgó la súplica que le hice.
Por este niño oraba, y Jehová me dió lo que le pedí.
For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
I prayed for this child, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.
Por tanto, se lo tengo ofrecido, a fin de que le sirva mientras viva. Con esto, adoraron allí al Señor; y Ana, estando orando, prorrumpió en este cántico:
Yo pues le vuelvo también á Jehová: todos los días que viviere, será de Jehová. Y adoró allí á Jehová.
Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
Therefore I have also given him to the LORD. As long as he lives he is given to the LORD.” He worshiped the LORD there.
