1Und es geschah, als David und seine Männer am dritten Tage nach Ziklag kamen, da waren die Amalekiter in den Süden und in Ziklag eingefallen; und sie hatten Ziklag geschlagen und es mit Feuer verbrannt.
2Und sie hatten die Weiber und alle, die darin waren, gefangen weggeführt, vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten; sie hatten niemand getötet, sondern sie hatten sie weggetrieben und waren ihres Weges gezogen.
3Und David und seine Männer kamen zu der Stadt; und siehe, sie war mit Feuer verbrannt, und ihre Weiber und ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter waren gefangen weggeführt.
4Da erhoben David und das Volk, das bei ihm war, ihre Stimme, und sie weinten, bis keine Kraft mehr in ihnen war zu weinen.
5Und auch die beiden Weiber Davids waren gefangen weggeführt, Achinoam, die Jisreelitin, und Abigail, das Weib Nabals, des Karmeliters.
6Und David war in großer Bedrängnis, denn das Volk sprach davon, ihn zu steinigen; denn die Seele des ganzen Volkes war erbittert, ein jeder um seine Söhne und um seine Töchter. Aber David stärkte sich in Jehova, seinem Gott.
7Und David sprach zu Abjathar, dem Priester, dem Sohne Ahimelechs: Bringe mir doch das Ephod her! Und Abjathar brachte das Ephod zu David.
8Und David befragte Jehova und sprach: Soll ich dieser Schar nachjagen? Werde ich sie erreichen? Und er sprach zu ihm: Jage nach, denn du wirst sie gewißlich erreichen und wirst gewißlich erretten.
9Da zog David hin, er und die sechshundert Mann, die bei ihm waren; und sie kamen an den Bach Besor, wo die Zurückbleibenden stehen blieben.
10Und David jagte nach, er und vierhundert Mann; denn zweihundert Mann blieben stehen, welche zu ermattet waren, um über den Bach Besor zu gehen.
11Und sie fanden einen ägyptischen Mann auf dem Felde und brachten ihn zu David; und sie gaben ihm Brot, und er aß, und sie tränkten ihn mit Wasser;
12und sie gaben ihm eine Schnitte Feigenkuchen und zwei Rosinenkuchen, und er aß; und sein Geist kam ihm wieder, denn er hatte drei Tage und drei Nächte kein Brot gegessen und kein Wasser getrunken.
13Und David sprach zu ihm: Wem gehörst du? Und woher bist du? Und er sprach: Ich bin ein ägyptischer Jüngling, der Knecht eines amalekitischen Mannes; und mein Herr hat mich verlassen, denn ich wurde heute vor drei Tagen krank.
14Wir sind eingefallen in den Süden der Kerethiter und in das, was Juda gehört und in den Süden von Kaleb, und wir haben Ziklag mit Feuer verbrannt.
15Und David sprach zu ihm: Willst du mich zu dieser Schar hinabführen? Und er sprach: Schwöre mir bei Gott, daß du mich nicht töten noch mich der Hand meines Herrn ausliefern willst, so will ich dich zu dieser Schar hinabführen.
16Und er führte ihn hinab; und siehe, sie waren über die Fläche des ganzen Landes zerstreut, essend und trinkend und tanzend wegen all der großen Beute, die sie aus dem Lande der Philister und aus dem Lande Juda genommen hatten.
17Und David schlug sie von der Dämmerung an bis zum Abend des folgenden Tages; und keiner von ihnen entrann, außer vierhundert jungen Männern, welche auf Kamele stiegen und entflohen.
18Und David rettete alles, was die Amalekiter genommen hatten, und David rettete auch seine beiden Weiber.
19Und es fehlte ihnen nichts, vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten, und bis zu den Söhnen und den Töchtern, und von der Beute bis zu allem, was sie ihnen genommen hatten; alles brachte David zurück.
20Und David nahm alles Klein-und Rindvieh; sie trieben es vor dem anderen Vieh her und sprachen: Dies ist die Beute Davids!
21Und David kam zu den zweihundert Männern, die zu ermattet gewesen waren, um David nachzufolgen, und die sie am Bache Besor zurückgelassen hatten; und sie zogen aus, David und dem Volke entgegen, das bei ihm war; und David trat zu dem Volke und fragte sie nach ihrem Wohlergehen.
22Und jeder böse und nichtswürdige Mann von den Männern, die mit David gezogen waren, hob an und sprach: Darum daß sie nicht mit uns gezogen sind, wollen wir ihnen von der Beute, die wir entrissen haben, nichts geben, als nur einem jeden sein Weib und seine Kinder, daß sie sie wegführen und hingehen.
23Aber David sprach: Tut nicht also, meine Brüder, mit dem, was Jehova uns gegeben hat; und er hat uns behütet und die Schar, die über uns gekommen war, in unsere Hand gegeben.
24Und wer wird in dieser Sache auf euch hören? Denn wie das Teil dessen, der in den Streit hinabzieht, so soll auch das Teil dessen sein, der bei dem Geräte bleibt: gemeinsam sollen sie teilen.
25Und so geschah es von jenem Tage an und hinfort; und er machte es zur Satzung und zum Recht für Israel bis auf diesen Tag.
26Und David kam nach Ziklag; und er sandte von der Beute den Ältesten Judas, seinen Freunden, und sprach: Siehe, da habt ihr ein Geschenk von der Beute der Feinde Jehovas:
27denen zu Bethel und denen zu Ramoth im Süden und denen zu Jattir,
28und denen zu Aroer und denen zu Siphmoth und denen zu Estemoa,
29und denen zu Rakal und denen in den Städten der Jerachmeeliter und denen in den Städten der Keniter,
30und denen zu Horma und denen zu Bor-Aschan und denen zu Athak,
31und denen zu Hebron, und nach allen Orten, wo David umhergezogen war, er und seine Männer.

1Y CUANDO David y los suyos vinieron á Siclag al tercer día, los de Amalec habían invadido el mediodía y á Siclag, y habían desolado á Siclag, y puéstola á fuego.
2Y habíanse llevado cautivas á las mujeres que estaban en ella, desde el menor hasta el mayor; mas á nadie habían muerto, sino llevado, é ídose su camino.
3Vino pues David con los suyos á la ciudad, y he aquí que estaba quemada á fuego, y sus mujeres y sus hijos é hijas llevadas cautivas.
4Entonces David y la gente que con él estaba, alzaron su voz y lloraron, hasta que les faltaron las fuerzas para llorar.
5Las dos mujeres de David, Ahinoam Jezreelita y Abigail la que fué mujer de Nabal del Carmelo, también eran cautivas.
6Y David fué muy angustiado, porque el pueblo hablaba de apedrearlo; porque todo el pueblo estaba con ánimo amargo, cada uno por sus hijos y por sus hijas: mas David se esforzó en Jehová su Dios.
7Y dijo David al sacerdote Abiathar hijo de Ahimelech: Yo te ruego que me acerques el ephod. Y Abiathar acercó el ephod á David.
8Y David consultó á Jehová, diciendo: ¿Seguiré esta tropa? ¿podréla alcanzar? Y él le dijo: Síguela, que de cierto la alcanzarás, y sin falta librarás la presa.
9Partióse pues David, él y los seiscientos hombres que con él estaban, y vinieron hasta el torrente de Besor, donde se quedaron algunos.
10Y David siguió el alcance con cuatrocientos hombres; porque se quedaron atrás doscientos, que cansados no pudieron pasar el torrente de Besor.
11Y hallaron en el campo un hombre Egipcio, el cual trajeron á David, y diéronle pan que comiese, y á beber agua;
12Diéronle también un pedazo de masa de higos secos, y dos hilos de pasas. Y luego que comió, volvió en él su espíritu; porque no había comido pan ni bebido agua en tres días y tres noches.
13Y díjole David: ¿De quién eres tú? ¿y de dónde eres? Y respondió el mozo Egipcio: Yo soy siervo de un Amalecita, y dejóme mi amo hoy ha tres días, porque estaba enfermo;
14Pues hicimos una incursión á la parte del mediodía de Cerethi, y á Judá, y al mediodía de Caleb; y pusimos fuego á Siclag.
15Y díjole David: ¿Me llevarás tú á esa tropa? Y él dijo: Hazme juramento por Dios que no me matarás, ni me entregarás en las manos de mi amo, y yo te llevaré á esa gente.
16Llevólo pues: y he aquí que estaban derramados sobre la haz de toda aquella tierra, comiendo y bebiendo y haciendo fiesta, por toda aquella gran presa que habían tomado de la tierra de los Filisteos, y de la tierra de Judá.
17E hiriólos David desde aquella mañana hasta la tarde del día siguiente: y no escapó de ellos ninguno, sino cuatrocientos mancebos, que habían subido en camellos y huyeron.
18Y libró David todo lo que los Amalecitas habían tomado: y asimismo libertó David á sus dos mujeres.
19Y no les faltó cosa chica ni grande, así de hijos como de hijas, del robo, y de todas las cosas que les habían tomado: todo lo recobró David.
20Tomó también David todas las ovejas y ganados mayores; y trayéndolo todo delante, decían: Esta es la presa de David.
21Y vino David á los doscientos hombres que habían quedado cansados y no habían podido seguir á David, á los cuales habían hecho quedar en el torrente de Besor; y ellos salieron á recibir á David, y al pueblo que con él estaba. Y como David llegó á la gente, saludóles con paz.
22Entonces todos los malos y perversos de entre los que habían ido con David, respondieron y dijeron: Pues que no fueron con nosotros, no les daremos de la presa que hemos quitado, sino á cada uno su mujer y sus hijos; los cuales tomen y se vayan.
23Y David dijo: No hagáis eso, hermanos míos, de lo que nos ha dado Jehová; el cual nos ha guardado, y ha entregado en nuestras manos la caterva que vino sobre nosotros.
24¿Y quién os escuchará en este caso? porque igual parte ha de ser la de los que vienen á la batalla, y la de los que quedan con el bagaje: que partan juntamente.
25Y desde aquel día en adelante fué esto puesto por ley y ordenanza en Israel, hasta hoy.
26Y como David llegó á Siclag, envió de la presa á los ancianos de Judá, sus amigos, diciendo: He aquí una bendición para vosotros, de la presa de los enemigos de Jehová.
27A los que estaban en Beth-el, y en Ramoth al mediodía, y á los que estaban en Jattir;
28Y á los que estaban en Aroer, y en Siphmoth, y á los que estaban en Esthemoa;
29Y á los que estaban en Rachâl, y á los que estaban en las ciudades de Jerameel, y á los que estaban en las ciudades del Cineo;
30Y á los que estaban en Horma, y á los que estaban en Chôrasán, y á los que estaban en Athach;
31Y á los que estaban en Hebrón, y en todos los lugares donde David había estado con los suyos.

1And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
2And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
3So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
7And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
9So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.
10But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.
11And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
12And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.
13And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.
14We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.
15And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.
16And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
17And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.
18And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.
19And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.
20And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David’s spoil.
21And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.
22Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.
23Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.
24For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.
25And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.
26And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;
27To them which were in Beth-el, and to them which were in south Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir,
28And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa,
29And to them which were in Rachal, and to them which were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites,
30And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chor-ashan, and to them which were in Athach,
31And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wont to haunt.
World English Bible
1When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,
2and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off and went their way.
3When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive.
4Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.
5David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

15David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and not deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”
16When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great plunder that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
17David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.
18David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and David rescued his two wives.
19There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither plunder, nor anything that they had taken. David brought them all back.
20David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s plunder.”
21David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.
22Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”
23Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which the LORD has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.
24Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays with the baggage. They shall share alike.”
25It was so from that day forward that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.
26When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, “Behold, a present for you from the plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
27He sent it to those who were in Bethel, to those who were in Ramoth of the South, to those who were in Jattir,
28to those who were in Aroer, to those who were in Siphmoth, to those who were in Eshtemoa,
29to those who were in Racal, to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,
30to those who were in Hormah, to those who were in Borashan, to those who were in Athach,
31to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.
