Cuando Samuel envejeció, nombró a sus hijos como jueces de Israel.
Y ACONTECIÓ que habiendo Samuel envejecido, puso sus hijos por jueces sobre Israel.
And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

Su hijo primogénito se llamaba Joel, y el segundo, Abías; ambos eran jueces en Berseba.

Pero sus hijos no siguieron su buen ejemplo, sino que se dejaron llevar por la ambición, aceptaron sobornos y pervirtieron la justicia.
Mas no anduvieron los hijos por los caminos de su padre, antes se ladearon tras la avaricia, recibiendo cohecho y pervirtiendo el derecho.
And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned away after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.
Por eso, todos los ancianos de Israel se reunieron y fueron a Ramá para hablar con Samuel.
Entonces todos los ancianos de Israel se juntaron, y vinieron á Samuel en Rama,
Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

Le dijeron: “Mira, tú ya eres viejo y tus hijos no siguen tus pasos. Por lo tanto, danos un rey que nos gobierne, como lo tienen todas las naciones”.
Y dijéronle: He aquí tú has envejecido, y tus hijos no van por tus caminos: por tanto, constitúyenos ahora un rey que nos juzgue, como todas las gentes.
And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
They said to him, “Behold, you are old, and your sons don’t walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
A Samuel no le gustó que le pidieran un rey para que los gobernara. Entonces Samuel oró a Yahvé.
Y descontentó á Samuel esta palabra que dijeron: Danos rey que nos juzgue. Y Samuel oró á Jehová.
But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

Y Yahvé le respondió: “Hazle caso al pueblo en todo lo que te pidan. No es a ti a quien han rechazado, sino a mí, pues no quieren que yo reine sobre ellos.
Y dijo Jehová á Samuel: Oye la voz del pueblo en todo lo que te dijeren: porque no te han desechado á ti, sino á mí me han desechado, para que no reine sobre ellos.
And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me as the king over them.
Están haciendo contigo lo mismo que han hecho desde el día en que los saqué de Egipto: me han abandonado para servir a otros dioses.
Conforme á todas las obras que han hecho desde el día que los saqué de Egipto hasta hoy, que me han dejado y han servido á dioses ajenos, así hacen también contigo.
According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Hazles caso, pero adviérteles seriamente y diles cuáles serán los derechos del rey que los va a gobernar”.
Ahora pues, oye su voz: mas protesta contra ellos declarándoles el derecho del rey que ha de reinar sobre ellos.
Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

Samuel les comunicó todo lo que Yahvé había dicho al pueblo que le pedía un rey.
Y dijo Samuel todas las palabras de Jehová al pueblo que le había pedido rey.
And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.

Les dijo: “Estos serán los derechos del rey que los gobernará: Él tomará a sus hijos de ustedes para que sirvan en sus carros de guerra y en su caballería, y para que corran delante de su carro real.
Dijo pues: Este será el derecho del rey que hubiere de reinar sobre vosotros: tomará vuestros hijos, y pondrálos en sus carros, y en su gente de á caballo, para que corran delante de su carro:
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.
A unos los nombrará jefes de mil soldados y a otros jefes de cincuenta. A otros los pondrá a labrar sus campos y a levantar sus cosechas, o a fabricar sus armas de guerra y los repuestos para sus carros.
Y se elegirá capitanes de mil, y capitanes de cincuenta: pondrálos asimismo á que aren sus campos, y sieguen sus mieses, y á que hagan sus armas de guerra, y los pertrechos de sus carros:
And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
He will appoint them to him for captains of thousands and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest; and to make his instruments of war and the instruments of his chariots.
También tomará a sus hijas de ustedes para que sean perfumistas, cocineras y panaderas.
Tomará también vuestras hijas para que sean perfumadoras, cocineras, y amasadoras.
And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

Se apoderará de los mejores campos, viñedos y olivares de ustedes, y se los dará a sus funcionarios.
Asimismo tomará vuestras tierras, vuestras viñas, y vuestros buenos olivares, y los dará á sus siervos.
And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.

Les exigirá la décima parte de sus granos y de sus cosechas para dársela a sus oficiales y servidores.

También les quitará a sus servidores y servidoras, a sus mejores jóvenes y a sus burros para el beneficio de sus propios trabajos.
El tomará vuestros siervos, y vuestras siervas, y vuestros buenos mancebos, y vuestros asnos, y con ellos hará sus obras.
And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.
He will take your male servants, your female servants, your best young men, and your donkeys, and assign them to his own work.
Se quedará con la décima parte de sus rebaños, y ustedes mismos terminarán siendo sus esclavos.
Diezmará también vuestro rebaño, y seréis sus siervos.

Cuando llegue ese día, gritarán de angustia por causa del rey que ustedes mismos hayan elegido, pero ese día Yahvé no les responderá”.
Y clamaréis aquel día á causa de vuestro rey que os habréis elegido, mas Jehová no os oirá en aquel día.
And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.

Sin embargo, el pueblo no quiso escuchar a Samuel, sino que insistió: “¡No importa! Queremos tener un rey.
Empero el pueblo no quiso oir la voz de Samuel; antes dijeron: No, sino que habrá rey sobre nosotros:
Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us,
Así seremos como todas las naciones; nuestro rey nos gobernará, irá al frente de nosotros y peleará nuestras batallas”.
Y nosotros seremos también como todas las gentes, y nuestro rey nos gobernará, y saldrá delante de nosotros, y hará nuestras guerras.
That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

Samuel escuchó todo lo que el pueblo decía y se lo repitió a Yahvé.

Y Yahvé le dijo: “Hazles caso y dales un rey”. Entonces Samuel les dijo a los israelitas: “Regrese cada uno a su ciudad”.

The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.” Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Everyone go to your own city.”
