Y dijo Jehová á Samuel: Oye la voz del pueblo en todo lo que te dijeren: porque no te han desechado á ti, sino á mí me han desechado, para que no reine sobre ellos.
And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

Eles estão agindo, agora, da mesma forma que vêm agindo desde o dia em que Eu os tirei do Egito: abandonando-Me, e servindo a outros deuses. Do mesmo modo, eles estão fazendo contigo.

Então, Samuel disse todas as palavras de Yahweh ao povo que estava pedindo um rei.

Ele disse: "Assim será como o rei reinará sobre vós. Ele tomará vossos filhos e os nomeará sobre os seus carros e para ser seus cavaleiros, e para correrem adiante dos seus carros.
Dijo pues: Este será el derecho del rey que hubiere de reinar sobre vosotros: tomará vuestros hijos, y pondrálos en sus carros, y en su gente de á caballo, para que corran delante de su carro:
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.
nomerá para si mesmo capitães de mil soldados, e capitães de cinquenta soldados. Ele fará alguns deles arar seus campos, colher suas colheitas e outros para fazer suas armas de guerra e os equipamentos para seus carros.
Y se elegirá capitanes de mil, y capitanes de cincuenta: pondrálos asimismo á que aren sus campos, y sieguen sus mieses, y á que hagan sus armas de guerra, y los pertrechos de sus carros:
And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

Mas o povo recusou a ouvir Samuel; eles disseram: "Não! Deve haver um rei sobre nós,
Empero el pueblo no quiso oir la voz de Samuel; antes dijeron: No, sino que habrá rey sobre nosotros:
Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us,
para que possamos ser como as outras nações, e para que o nosso rei possa julgar-nos e sair adiante de nós e lutar as nossas batalhas".
Y nosotros seremos también como todas las gentes, y nuestro rey nos gobernará, y saldrá delante de nosotros, y hará nuestras guerras.
