Por fim, os chefes de Israel se reuniram em Ramá, a fim de discutir o problema com Samuel.

Disseram a Samuel: “O senhor já está idoso, e seus filhos não são homens de bem. Escolha um rei para nós para que nos lidere. Veja, todas as outras nações têm seu rei”.
Y dijéronle: He aquí tú has envejecido, y tus hijos no van por tus caminos: por tanto, constitúyenos ahora un rey que nos juzgue, como todas las gentes.
And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

Quando, disseram: “Escolha um rei para que nos lidere”, isso desagradou a Samuel e ele orou ao Senhor pedindo conselho.

Desde que os tirei do Egito, eles têm me abandonado continuamente e seguido outros deuses. E agora tratam você da mesma maneira.

Assim, Samuel contou ao povo o que o Senhor tinha dito,
Y dijo Samuel todas las palabras de Jehová al pueblo que le había pedido rey.

dizendo: “Já que vocês insistem em ter um rei, estes serão os direitos que o rei que governará sobre vocês terá: Ele convocará os seus filhos, para servi-lo em seus carros de guerra e como seus cavaleiros, e eles terão de correr na frente dos carros do rei.
Dijo pues: Este será el derecho del rey que hubiere de reinar sobre vosotros: tomará vuestros hijos, y pondrálos en sus carros, y en su gente de á caballo, para que corran delante de su carro:
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.
Ele colocará alguns para chefiar os soldados do rei na guerra, alguns serão chefes sobre mil, outros chefes de cinquenta; outros trabalharão e cultivarão os campos do rei e farão as colheitas; outros fabricarão armas para os soldados e equipamento para os carros de combate.
Y se elegirá capitanes de mil, y capitanes de cincuenta: pondrálos asimismo á que aren sus campos, y sieguen sus mieses, y á que hagan sus armas de guerra, y los pertrechos de sus carros:
And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

Ele vai tomar suas filhas para serem perfumistas, cozinheiras e padeiras.

Porém, o povo não quis atender ao aviso de Samuel, e disse: “Mesmo assim, queremos um rei,

Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

porque desejamos ser iguais às nações ao nosso redor. Ele nos governará e nos conduzirá à guerra”.

Samuel contou ao Senhor o que o povo havia dito,
