Ihr wißt ja selbst, liebe Brüder, daß unser erstmaliges Auftreten bei euch nicht erfolglos gewesen ist;

PORQUE, hermanos, vosotros mismos sabéis que nuestra entrada á vosotros no fué vana:

For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:

For you yourselves know, brothers, our visit to you wasn’t in vain,

sondern nachdem wir vorher, wie ihr wißt, in Philippi Leiden und Mißhandlungen hatten erdulden müssen, gewannen wir doch in unserm Gott den frohen Mut, die Heilsbotschaft Gottes unter schweren Kämpfen bei euch zu verkündigen.

Pues aun habiendo padecido antes, y sido afrentados en Filipos, como sabéis, tuvimos denuedo en Dios nuestro para anunciaros el evangelio de Dios con gran combate.

But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

but having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi, we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict.

Denn unsere Predigt erfolgt nicht aus Schwärmerei oder unlauteren Absichten, auch nicht mit Hintergedanken;

Porque nuestra exhortación no fué de error, ni de inmundicia, ni por engaño;

For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:

For our exhortation is not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deception.

nein, wie wir von Gott gewürdigt worden sind, mit der (Verkündigung der) Heilsbotschaft betraut zu werden, so reden wir nun auch, nicht um Menschen zu gefallen, sondern Gott, der unsere Herzen prüft.

Sino según fuimos aprobados de Dios para que se nos encargase el evangelio, así hablamos; no como los que agradan á los hombres, sino á Dios, el cual prueba nuestros corazones.

But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.

Denn weder sind wir jemals, wie ihr wißt, mit Schmeichelworten umgegangen, noch mit versteckter Gewinnsucht – Gott ist unser Zeuge! –,

Porque nunca fuimos lisonjeros en la palabra, como sabéis, ni tocados de avaricia; Dios es testigo;

For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is witness),

auch haben wir nicht Ehre von seiten der Menschen gesucht, weder von euch noch von anderen,

Ni buscamos de los hombres gloria, ni de vosotros, ni de otros, aunque podíamos seros carga como apóstoles de Cristo.

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

obgleich wir als Sendboten Christi sehr wohl Anspruch auf Ehren hätten erheben können; vielmehr sind wir unter euch sanft aufgetreten wie eine Amme, die ihre Kinder hegt und pflegt:

Antes fuimos blandos entre vosotros como la que cría, que regala á sus hijos:

But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:

But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

so fühlten wir uns in Liebe zu euch hingezogen und hegten den Wunsch, euch nicht nur die Heilsbotschaft Gottes, sondern auch unsere eigenen Seelen darzubringen; denn ihr waret uns lieb geworden.

Tan amadores de vosotros, que quisiéramos entregaros no sólo el evangelio de Dios, mas aun nuestras propias almas; porque nos erais carísimos.

So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Even so, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us.

Ihr erinnert euch doch noch, liebe Brüder, unserer Mühsal und Arbeitslast: während wir Tag und Nacht mit Handarbeit beschäftigt waren, um keinem von euch zur Last zu fallen, haben wir bei euch die Heilsbotschaft Gottes verkündigt.

Porque ya, hermanos, os acordáis de nuestro trabajo y fatiga: que trabajando de noche y de día por no ser gravosos á ninguno de vosotros, os predicamos el evangelio de Dios.

For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail; for working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached to you the Good News of God.

Ihr seid unsere Zeugen, und auch Gott ist Zeuge dafür, wie pflichtgetreu, gerecht und untadelig wir uns gegen euch, die ihr gläubig (geworden) waret, verhalten haben,

Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios, de cuán santa y justa é irreprensiblemente nos condujimos con vosotros que creísteis:

Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

You are witnesses with God how holy, righteously, and blamelessly we behaved ourselves toward you who believe.

wie wir – ihr wißt es ja – jeden einzelnen von euch wie ein Vater seine Kinder

Así como sabéis de qué modo exhortábamos y consolábamos á cada uno de vosotros, como el padre á sus hijos,

As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

As you know, we exhorted, comforted, and implored every one of you, as a father does his own children,

ermahnt und euch zugeredet und euch beschworen haben, ihr möchtet würdig des Gottes wandeln, der euch zu seinem Reich und zu seiner Herrlichkeit beruft.

Y os protestábamos que anduvieseis como es digno de Dios, que os llamó á su reino y gloria.

That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

to the end that you should walk worthily of God, who calls you into his own Kingdom and glory.

Deshalb sagen wir auch Gott unablässig Dank dafür, daß ihr nach Empfang des von uns gepredigten Gotteswortes es nicht als Menschenwort angenommen habt, sondern als das, was es ja in der Tat ist, als Gottes Wort, das sich nun in euch, seitdem ihr gläubig seid, auch wirksam erweist.

Por lo cual, también nosotros damos gracias á Dios sin cesar, de que habiendo recibido la palabra de Dios que oísteis de nosotros, recibisteis no palabra de hombres, sino según es en verdad, la palabra de Dios, el cual obra en vosotros los que creísteis.

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

For this cause we also thank God without ceasing that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, God’s word, which also works in you who believe.

Ihr seid ja, liebe Brüder, in die Nachfolge der Gottesgemeinden eingetreten, die im jüdischen Lande in Christus (gegründet) sind; denn auch ihr habt von euren eigenen Volksgenossen die gleichen Leiden erduldet wie jene von den Juden,

Porque vosotros, hermanos, habéis sido imitadores de las iglesias de Dios en Cristo Jesús que están en Judea; pues habéis padecido también vosotros las mismas cosas de los de vuestra propia nación, como también ellos de los Judíos;

For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

For you, brothers, became imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews

die sogar den Herrn Jesus getötet und die Propheten wie auch uns verfolgt haben. Die besitzen Gottes Wohlgefallen nicht und sind allen Menschen feindselig,

Los cuales aun mataron al Señor Jesús y á sus propios profetas, y á nosotros nos han perseguido; y no agradan á Dios, y se oponen á todos los hombres;

Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out, and don’t please God, and are contrary to all men,

weil sie uns daran hindern (wollen), den Heiden zu ihrer Rettung zu predigen, um so nur ja das Maß ihrer Sünden jederzeit voll zu machen. Es ist aber der Zorn über sie hereingebrochen bis zum Äußersten.

Prohibiéndonos hablar á los Gentiles, á fin de que se salven, para henchir la medida de sus pecados siempre: pues vino sobre ellos la ira hasta el extremo.

Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

Wir aber, liebe Brüder, da wir eine Zeitlang fern von euch verwaist waren – freilich nur (räumlich) dem Angesicht, nicht dem Herzen nach –, haben uns mit lebhaftem Verlangen um so eifriger bemüht, euch Auge in Auge wiederzusehen.

Mas nosotros, hermanos, privados de vosotros por un poco de tiempo, de vista, no de corazón, tanto más procuramos con mucho deseo ver vuestro rostro.

But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

Deshalb hatten wir uns vorgenommen, euch zu besuchen – ich, Paulus, sogar mehr als einmal –, doch der Satan hat uns nicht dazu kommen lassen.

Por lo cual quisimos ir á vosotros, yo Pablo á la verdad, una vez y otra; mas Satanás nos embarazó.

Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

Denn wer ist unsere Hoffnung, unsere Freude und unser Ruhmeskranz, wenn nicht auch ihr es seid, vor dem Angesicht unsers Herrn Jesus bei seiner Ankunft?

Porque ¿cuál es nuestra esperanza, ó gozo, ó corona de que me gloríe? ¿No sois vosotros, delante de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en su venida?

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Isn’t it even you, before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

Ihr seid ja doch unser Ruhm und unsere Freude!

Que vosotros sois nuestra gloria y gozo.

For ye are our glory and joy.
