POR lo cual, no pudiendo esperar más, acordamos quedarnos solos en Atenas,

e mandar Timóteo, nosso irmão e companheiro de trabalho, ministro de Deus, a fim de visitá-los para fortalecer-lhes a fé e animá-los,
Y enviamos á Timoteo, nuestro hermano, y ministro de Dios, y colaborador nuestro en el evangelio de Cristo, á confirmaros y exhortaros en vuestra fe,
And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you and to comfort you concerning your faith,
para que vocês não ficassem abalados com todas as aflições que estavam sofrendo. Vocês sabem, naturalmente, que tais aflições fazem parte do plano de Deus para nós, os santos.
Para que nadie se conmueva por estas tribulaciones; porque vosotros sabéis que nosotros somos puestos para esto.
That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.

Mesmo quando ainda estávamos com vocês, nós os advertimos antecipadamente de que logo viria o sofrimento, o que, de fato, ocorreu.

For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

E como eu estava dizendo, quando não pude mais suportar a saudade, enviei Timóteo para que verificasse se vocês ainda estavam fortes na fé. Eu tinha receio de que o tentador tivesse seduzido vocês, e todo o nosso trabalho tivesse sido inútil.
Por lo cual, también yo, no esperando más, he enviado á reconocer vuestra fe, no sea que os haya tentado el tentador, y que nuestro trabajo haya sido en vano.
For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
For this cause I also, when I couldn’t stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.
E agora Timóteo acaba de regressar, trazendo notícias boas de que vocês estão mais fortes do que nunca na fé e no amor, e que se lembram da nossa visita com alegria e querem ver-nos tanto quanto nós desejamos vê-los.
Empero volviendo de vosotros á nosotros Timoteo, y haciéndonos saber vuestra fe y caridad, y que siempre tenéis buena memoria de nosotros, deseando vernos, como también nosotros á vosotros,
But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
But Timothy has just now come to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you.
Assim, queridos irmãos, nós nos sentimos grandemente confortados em todas as nossas esmagadoras aflições e no sofrimento aqui, agora que sabemos que vocês permanecem firmes na fé ao Senhor.
En ello, hermanos, recibimos consolación de vosotros en toda nuestra necesidad y aflicción por causa de vuestra fe:
Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:

Podemos aguentar qualquer coisa enquanto soubermos que vocês permanecem firmes no Senhor.
Porque ahora vivimos, si vosotros estáis firmes en el Señor.

Como poderemos ser suficientemente gratos a Deus por vocês, e por toda a alegria e satisfação que vocês nos têm dado?
Por lo cual, ¿qué hacimiento de gracias podremos dar á Dios por vosotros, por todo el gozo con que nos gozamos á causa de vosotros delante de nuestro Dios,
For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

Porque noite e dia nós oramos continuamente por vocês, rogando a Deus que nos permita vê-los novamente, a fim de suprir o que porventura falte à sua fé.
Orando de noche y de día con grande instancia, que veamos vuestro rostro, y que cumplamos lo que falta á vuestra fe?

o resultado disso é que Deus nosso Pai tornará forte, santo e sem pecado o coração de vocês, a fim de que possam comparecer sem culpa diante dele naquele dia quando o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo voltar com todos quantos lhe pertencem.
Para que sean confirmados vuestros corazones en santidad, irreprensibles delante de Dios y nuestro Padre, para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo con todos sus santos.
