1Esta carta viene de Pablo, un apóstol de Jesucristo designado por la autoridad de Dios, nuestro Salvador, y Cristo Jesús, quien es nuestra esperanza.
2Esta carta la envío a Timoteo. Tú eres mi hijo por causa de tu fe en Dios. Recibe gracia, misericordia y paz de Dios el Padre y de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.
3Cuando iba de camino a Macedonia, te pedí que te quedaras en Éfeso, para que pudieras hablar con los que enseñan falsas ideas y les insistieras en que dejaran de hacerlo.
4Ellos no deberían preocuparse por leyendas ni obsesionarse interminablemente en cuanto a linajes. Tales ideas solo conducen a debates sin sentido, y no a una comprensión de Dios mediante la fe en él.
5La razón por la que insisto en esto es para que podamos tener el amor que nace de un corazón puro, de una conciencia limpia y de la fe sincera en Dios.
6Algunos se han desviado de estas cosas, y han terminado predicando cosas sin sentido.
7Tienen ambición por ser maestros de la ley, pero no tienen idea de lo que dicen ni de lo que anuncian con tanta vehemencia.
8Ahora bien, reconocemos que la ley es buena si las personas la usan de manera adecuada.
9También sabemos que la ley no se instituyó por causa de los que son justos, sino por causa de los que son rebeldes e ignoran la ley. Se aplica a personas que no sirven a Dios, que son pecadoras, que no respetan la santidad de las cosas y que son completamente profanos. Es para los que matan a padres y madres, para los asesinos,
10para los que son sexualmente inmorales, para los homosexuales, para los secuestradores, para los mentirosos, para los que son falsos testigos, y para todo aquello que se oponga a las buenas enseñanzas
11que han sido determinadas por la maravillosa buena nueva de nuestro Dios bendito, y que él me encomendó.
12Estoy tan agradecido con Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor, por la fuerza que me ha dado, y porque me ha considerado fiel, designándome para trabajar para él.
13Aunque yo solía insultar a Dios, y perseguía y abusaba de su pueblo, él me mostró misericordia por causa de mi ignorancia e incredulidad.
14Nuestro Señor, en su gracia, me llenó hasta la saciedad con la fe y el amor que provienen de Cristo Jesús.
15Este es un dicho confiable que todos deberían aceptar: “Jesucristo vino a este mundo para salvar a los pecadores”, y yo soy el peor de ellos.
16Por esta razón se me mostró misericordia, pues ya que soy el peor pecador, Jesucristo pudo mostrar su paciencia infinita como ejemplo para aquellos que eligen creer en él y obtener vida eterna.
17La honra y la gloria sean por siempre y para siempre para el Rey eterno, el inmortal, invisible y único Dios. Amén.
18Estas son las instrucciones que quiero darte, Timoteo, mi hijo, siguiendo las profecías que te han traído hasta aquí, para que puedas pelear la buena batalla.
19Mantén tu fe en Dios y asegúrate de tener una conciencia limpia. Algunos no han querido hacerlo y por eso su fe en Dios ha naufragado.
20Himeneo y Alexander son ejemplo de ello, y yo los he “entregado a Satanás” para que aprendan a no dar una mala imagen de Dios.

1PABLO, apóstol de Jesucristo por la ordenación de Dios nuestro Salvador, y del Señor Jesucristo, nuestra esperanza;
2A Timoteo, verdadero hijo en la fe: Gracia, misericordia y paz de Dios nuestro Padre, y de Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor.
3Como te rogué que te quedases en Efeso, cuando partí para Macedonia, para que requirieses á algunos que no enseñen diversa doctrina,
4Ni presten atención á fábulas y genealogías sin término, que antes engendran cuestiones que la edificación de Dios que es por fe; así te encargo ahora.
5Pues el fin del mandamiento es la caridad nacida de corazón limpio, y de buena conciencia, y de fe no fingida:
6De lo cual distrayéndose algunos, se apartaron á vanas pláticas;
7Queriendo ser doctores de la ley, sin entender ni lo que hablan, ni lo que afirman.
8Sabemos empero que la ley es buena, si alguno usa de ella legítimamente;
9Conociendo esto, que la ley no es puesta para el justo, sino para los injustos y para los desobedientes, para los impíos y pecadores, para los malos y profanos, para los parricidas y matricidas, para los homicidas,
10Para los fornicarios, para los sodomitas, para los ladrones de hombres, para los mentirosos y perjuros, y si hay alguna otra cosa contraria á la sana doctrina;
11Según el evangelio de la gloria del Dios bendito, el cual á mí me ha sido encargado.
12Y doy gracias al que me fortificó, á Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor, de que me tuvo por fiel, poniéndome en el ministerio:
13Habiendo sido antes blasfemo y perseguidor é injuriador: mas fuí recibido á misericordia, porque lo hice con ignorancia en incredulidad.
14Mas la gracia de nuestro Señor fué más abundante con la fe y amor que es en Cristo Jesús.
15Palabra fiel y digna de ser recibida de todos: que Cristo Jesús vino al mundo para salvar á los pecadores, de los cuales yo soy el primero.
16Mas por esto fuí recibido á misericordia, para que Jesucristo mostrase en mí el primero toda su clemencia, para ejemplo de los que habían de creer en él para vida eterna.
17Por tanto, al Rey de siglos, inmortal, invisible, al solo sabio Dios sea honor y gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
18Este mandamiento, hijo Timoteo, te encargo, para que, conforme á las profecías pasadas de ti, milites por ellas buena milicia;
19Manteniendo la fe y buena conciencia, la cual echando de sí algunos, hicieron naufragio en la fe:
20De los cuales son Himeneo y Alejandro, los cuales entregué á Satanás, para que aprendan á no blasfemar.

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
2Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
3As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
4Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
5Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
6From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
9Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
11According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
13Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
16Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
17Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
18This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
19Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
20Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

2to Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain men not to teach a different doctrine,
4and not to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than God’s stewardship, which is in faith.
5But the goal of this command is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith,
6from which things some, having missed the mark, have turned away to vain talking,
7desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say nor about what they strongly affirm.
8But we know that the law is good if a person uses it lawfully,
9as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine,
11according to the Good News of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12I thank him who enabled me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service,
13although I used to be a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14The grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
16However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.
17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
18I commit this instruction to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which were given to you before, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
19holding faith and a good conscience, which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith,
20of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
