Este es un verdadero dicho: Un hombre que desea la posición de un Obispo desea un buen trabajo.
PALABRA fiel: Si alguno apetece obispado, buena obra desea.
This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.
El Obispo, entonces, debe ser un hombre de buen nombre, esposo de una sola esposa, sobrios, llevar una vida seria y respetuosa, abriendo su casa libremente a los invitados, un maestro preparado;
Conviene, pues, que el obispo sea irreprensible, marido de una mujer, solícito, templado, compuesto, hospedador, apto para enseñar;
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

Porque si un hombre no tiene el arte de gobernar su casa, ¿cómo cuidará de la iglesia de Dios?

No debe ser un recién convertido, por temor a que, a través de su alta opinión de sí mismo, pueda entrar en el mismo pecado que el Maligno.

Y él debe tener un buen nombre entre los que están fuera de la iglesia, para que nada se diga contra él y caiga en escándalo y en la trampa del diablo.

Pero si tengo mucho tiempo para venir, esto les aclarara cuál es el comportamiento correcto para los hombres en la casa de Dios, que es la iglesia del Dios viviente, la columna y base de lo que es verdadero.
Y si no fuere tan presto, para que sepas cómo te conviene conversar en la casa de Dios, que es la iglesia del Dios vivo, columna y apoyo de la verdad.
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
