1 Timoteo 3

This is a true saying, If any man desire the office of a Bishop, he desireth a worthie worke.

PALABRA fiel: Si alguno apetece obispado, buena obra desea.

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.

A Bishop therefore must be vnreproueable, the husband of one wife, watching, temperate, modest, harberous, apt to teache,

Conviene, pues, que el obispo sea irreprensible, marido de una mujer, solícito, templado, compuesto, hospedador, apto para enseñar;

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

Not giuen to wine, no striker, not giuen to filthy lucre, but gentle, no fighter, not couetous,

No amador del vino, no heridor, no codicioso de torpes ganancias, sino moderado, no litigioso, ajeno de avaricia;

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

One that can rule his owne house honestly, hauing children vnder obedience with all honestie.

Que gobierne bien su casa, que tenga sus hijos en sujeción con toda honestidad;

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;

For if any cannot rule his owne house, how shall he care for the Church of God?

(Porque el que no sabe gobernar su casa, ¿cómo cuidará de la iglesia de Dios?)

(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

(for how could someone who doesn’t know how to rule his own house take care of God’s assembly?)

He may not be a yong scholer, lest he being puffed vp fall into the condemnation of the deuill.

No un neófito, porque inflándose no caiga en juicio del diablo.

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

He must also be well reported of, euen of them which are without, lest he fall into rebuke, and the snare of the deuill.

También conviene que tenga buen testimonio de los extraños, porque no caiga en afrenta y en lazo del diablo.

Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Likewise must Deacons be graue, not double tongued, not giuen vnto much wine, neither to filthy lucre,

Los diáconos asimismo, deben ser honestos, no bilingües, no dados á mucho vino, no amadores de torpes ganancias;

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

Servants, in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money,

Hauing the mysterie of the faith in pure conscience.

Que tengan el misterio de la fe con limpia conciencia.

And let them first be proued: then let them minister, if they be found blameles.

Y éstos también sean antes probados; y así ministren, si fueren sin crimen.

Likewise their wiues must be honest, not euill speakers, but sober, and faithfull in all things.

Las mujeres asimismo, honestas, no detractoras, templadas, fieles en todo.

Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, and faithful in all things.

Let the Deacons be the husbands of one wife, and such as can rule their children well, and their owne housholdes.

Los diáconos sean maridos de una mujer, que gobiernen bien sus hijos y sus casas.

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

For they that haue ministred well, get them selues a good degree, and great libertie in the faith, which is in Christ Iesus.

Porque los que bien ministraren, ganan para sí buen grado, y mucha confianza en la fe que es en Cristo Jesús.

For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

For those who have served well gain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

These things write I vnto thee, trusting to come very shortly vnto thee.

Esto te escribo con esperanza que iré presto á ti:

But if I tary long, that thou maist yet know, how thou oughtest to behaue thy self in ye house of God, which is the Church of the liuing God, the pillar and ground of trueth.

Y si no fuere tan presto, para que sepas cómo te conviene conversar en la casa de Dios, que es la iglesia del Dios vivo, columna y apoyo de la verdad.

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

And without controuersie, great is the mysterie of godlinesse, which is, God is manifested in the flesh, iustified in the Spirit, seene of Angels, preached vnto the Gentiles, beleeued on in the world, and receiued vp in glorie.

Y sin contradicción, grande es el misterio de la piedad: Dios ha sido manifestado en carne; ha sido justificado con el Espíritu; ha sido visto de los ángeles; ha sido predicado á los Gentiles; ha sido creído en el mundo; ha sido recibido en gloria.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
