1Einen Alten schilt nicht, sondern ermahne ihn als einen Vater, die Jungen als Brüder,
2Die alten Weiber als Mütter, die jungen als Schwestern mit aller Keuschheit.
3Ehre die Witwen, welche rechte Witwen sind.
4So aber eine Witwe Enkel oder Kinder hat, solche laß zuvor lernen, ihre eigenen Häuser göttlich regieren und den Eltern Gleiches vergelten; denn das ist wohl getan und angenehm vor Gott.
5Das ist aber die rechte Witwe, die einsam ist, die ihre Hoffnung auf Gott stellt und bleibt am Gebet und Flehen Tag und Nacht.
6Welche aber in Wollüsten lebt, die ist lebendig tot.
7Solches gebiete, auf daß sie untadelig seien.
8So aber jemand die Seinen, sonderlich seine Hausgenossen, nicht versorgt, der hat den Glauben verleugnet und ist ärger denn ein Heide.
9Laß keine Witwe erwählt werden unter sechzig Jahren, und die da gewesen sei eines Mannes Weib,
10und die ein Zeugnis habe guter Werke: so sie Kinder aufgezogen hat, so sie gastfrei gewesen ist, so sie der Heiligen Füße gewaschen hat, so sie den Trübseligen Handreichung getan hat, so sie in allem guten Werk nachgekommen ist.
11Der jungen Witwen aber entschlage dich; denn wenn sie geil geworden sind wider Christum, so wollen sie freien
12und haben ihr Urteil, daß sie den ersten Glauben gebrochen haben.
13Daneben sind sie faul und lernen umlaufen durch die Häuser; nicht allein aber sind sie faul sondern auch geschwätzig und vorwitzig und reden, was nicht sein soll.
14So will ich nun, daß die jungen Witwen freien, Kinder zeugen, haushalten, dem Widersacher keine Ursache geben zu schelten.
15Denn es sind schon etliche umgewandt dem Satan nach.
16So aber ein Gläubiger oder Gläubige Witwen hat, der versorge sie und lasse die Gemeinde nicht beschwert werden, auf daß die, so rechte Witwen sind, mögen genug haben.
17Die Ältesten, die wohl vorstehen, die halte man zweifacher Ehre wert, sonderlich die da arbeiten im Wort und in der Lehre.
18Denn es spricht die Schrift: “Du sollst dem Ochsen nicht das Maul verbinden, der da drischt;” und “Ein Arbeiter ist seines Lohnes wert.”
19Wider einen Ältesten nimm keine Klage an ohne zwei oder drei Zeugen.
20Die da sündigen, die strafe vor allen, auf daß sich auch die andern fürchten.
21Ich bezeuge vor Gott und dem HERRN Jesus Christus und den auserwählten Engeln, daß du solches haltest ohne eigenes Gutdünken und nichts tust nach Gunst.
22Die Hände lege niemand zu bald auf, mache dich auch nicht teilhaftig fremder Sünden. Halte dich selber keusch.
23Trinke nicht mehr Wasser, sondern auch ein wenig Wein um deines Magens willen und weil du oft krank bist.
24Etlicher Menschen Sünden sind offenbar, daß man sie zuvor richten kann; bei etlichen aber werden sie hernach offenbar.
25Desgleichen auch etlicher gute Werke sind zuvor offenbar, und die andern bleiben auch nicht verborgen.

1NO reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtale como á padre: á los más jóvenes, como á hermanos;
2A las ancianas, como á madres; á las jovencitas, como á hermanas, con toda pureza.
3Honra á las viudas que en verdad son viudas.
4Pero si alguna viuda tuviere hijos, ó nietos, aprendan primero á gobernar su casa piadosamente, y á recompensar á sus padres: porque esto es lo honesto y agradable delante de Dios.
5Ahora, la que en verdad es viuda y solitaria, espera en Dios, y es diligente en suplicaciones y oraciones noche y día.
6Pero la que vive en delicias, viviendo está muerta.
7Denuncia pues estas cosas, para que sean sin reprensión.
8Y si alguno no tiene cuidado de los suyos, y mayormente de los de su casa, la fe negó, y es peor que un infiel.
9La viuda sea puesta en clase especial, no menos que de sesenta años, que haya sido esposa de un solo marido.
10Que tenga testimonio en buenas obras; si crió hijos; si ha ejercitado la hospitalidad; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido á los afligidos; si ha seguido toda buena obra.
11Pero viudas más jóvenes no admitas: porque después de hacerse licenciosas contra Cristo, quieren casarse.
12Condenadas ya, por haber falseado la primera fe.
13Y aun también se acostumbran á ser ociosas, á andar de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino también parleras y curiosas, hablando lo que no conviene.
14Quiero pues, que las que son jóvenes se casen, críen hijos, gobiernen la casa; que ninguna ocasión den al adversario para maldecir.
15Porque ya algunas han vuelto atrás en pos de Satanás.
16Si algún fiel ó alguna fiel tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea gravada la iglesia; á fin de que haya lo suficiente para las que de verdad son viudas.
17Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doblada honra; mayormente los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar.
18Porque la Escritura dice: No embozarás al buey que trilla; y: Digno es el obrero de su jornal.
19Contra el anciano no recibas acusación sino con dos ó tres testigos.
20A los que pecaren, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los otros también teman.
21Te requiero delante de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin perjuicio de nadie, que nada hagas inclinándote á la una parte.
22No impongas de ligero las manos á ninguno, ni comuniques en pecados ajenos: consérvate en limpieza.
23No bebas de aquí adelante agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa del estómago, y de tus continuas enfermedades.
24Los pecados de algunos hombres, antes que vengan ellos á juicio, son manifiestos; mas á otros les vienen después.
25Asimismo las buenas obras antes son manifiestas; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden esconderse.

1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
3Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
5Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
7And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
9Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
10Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
19Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
20Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
21I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
22Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
23Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
24Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
25Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise can not be hid.

1Don’t rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brothers;

4But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety toward their own family and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
5Now she who is a widow indeed and desolate, has her hope set on God and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.
6But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.
7Also command these things, that they may be without reproach.
8But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
9Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,
10being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.
11But refuse younger widows, for when they have grown wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,
12having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
13Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.
14I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for insulting.
15For already some have turned away after Satan.
16If any man or woman who believes has widows, let them relieve them, and don’t let the assembly be burdened, that it might relieve those who are widows indeed.
17Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
18For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain.” And, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
19Don’t receive an accusation against an elder except at the word of two or three witnesses.
20Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
21I command you in the sight of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
22Lay hands hastily on no one. Don’t be a participant in other people’s sins. Keep yourself pure.
23Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.
24Some men’s sins are evident, preceding them to judgment, and some also follow later.
25In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise can’t be hidden.
